IT NewsImphal, March 21: The Na-tional Socialist Council ofNagalim-IM today observes it39th Republic Day. Vice presi-dent of the outfit Retired Gen-eral Kholi paid homage to thedeparted souls martyred forthe cause. Speaking on theoccasion Kholi said “Themartyred are the worthy sonsand daughters of the land, who indeed have paid the pricein full. We admit the fact thatours is one of the longest na-tional resistance movements inthe world history. It is a caseof aggression by India andthat the Nagas are the ag-grieved.”He further said “from the verybeginning the Naga peoplehave been looking for a nego-tiated settlement of the Indo-Naga political problem. Ourpast leaders met MahatmaGandhi, the father of the In-dian nation, for solving theproblem through dialogue. Itis so because the Nagas trustin a democratic principle ofsettlement of dispute through
mutual consent and agree-ment, and that they are op-posed to imposition of India’swill upon them, because impo-sition of one’s will upon theother has never ever solvedproblems anywhere in history,it only aggravates them. It is afact that the Nagas are a bravepeople who can outmaneuverand outfight the enemies inmilitary battles as proven inmany battles we have foughtandencountered. The stronger we
have been oppressed and per-secuted, the more resilient wehave been in our resistance. We have endured the aggres-sion of the enemies with clearconviction and firm determina-tion. The undaunted fightingspirit ofthe Nagas is admired by manypeoples, even by the enemies. And after decades of militarycampaigns against the Nagas, the Indian army generals and po-litical leaders finally stated, “Mili-tary solution is not possible.”
IT NewsImphal, March 21: Parentsand siblings of PravishChanam along with theconvener of North-East Forumfor International Solidarity(NEFIS) today met UnionMinister for Home Affairs,Rajnath Singh seeking CBIinquiry into his death. It should be known thatalready in this case manymemoranda have beensubmitted to Union HomeMinistry and today too at themeeting Shri Singh wasimplored by Pravish’s tearfulparents to expedite justice forthem. Rajnath Singh assuredthe deceased’s family that hisoffice will positively intervenein the matter. The meeting washeld after hundreds ofstudents and concernedindividuals and organizationsyesterday participated in aCandle Light March titled‘North-East People’s LivesMatter’ organized by NEFIS todemand justice for Manipuriyouth, Pravish Chanam.Pravish Chanam had come toDelhi on a visit and had beenresiding in Safdarjung, Delhiwith his friends. On 8thSeptember 2017, he went toKnowledge Park in Noida toattend a music concert with hisfriends and went missing after

the concert, to be later founddead. The Noida Police hadbeen making investigation intothe circumstances which ledto his death. But the shoddyinquiry conducted by thepolice as well as thesubsequent details of the casestrongly pointed towards thedubious role of policepersonnel themselves in thecase. Consequently, the
victim’s family demanded aninquiry by Central Bureau ofInvestigation into the case.Since, the matter fell under theauthority of UP Govt, thedeceased’s family requestedthe Manipur Govt to ask UPChief Minister to transfer thecase to CBI.It should be noted thatdespite UP Govt assuring theManipur Govt that the case
would be transferred to theCBI, no further steps havebeen taken in this direction. This amounts to a blatantattempt to shield the culpritsby allowing them ample timeto destroy evidence whichmay implicate them in future. This wilful negligence is alsoan indication of the states’ andcentral government’s apathytowards North-East people. Moreover, Pravish’s incidentis not an isolated case ofracism against North-Eastpeople. NEFIS believes that itis high time that people stoodagainst racism and pledged tooppose incidents of racismagainst the people from North-East. NEFIS has pledged tointensify its struggle, if justiceis not speedily ensured to thedeceased.
