Sensing Event, Swiss Medtech Event, etc. Also, he encourages the people to visit our
website www.ieee.ch.
At this point, Volker Koch thanks the Chapters and Affinity Groups Chairs for their
great work and leaves the floor to the three new founded chapters and a selection of
Chapters to present their activities in 2014.

6. Chapter foundation: IEEE Industrial Electronics Society
Andreas Koschak says that the Chapter was successfully founded, in May 2014. Two
events were held in 2014, namely “Lunch Talk at ETHZ: “Local Intelligence and Smart
Cameras” on October 6, 2014 and “ASIC Seminar with GlobalFoundries and DELTA
Semiconductor at EPFL” on November 3, 2014.
He also mentions the Officers of this chapter, namely Dr. Wolfram Teppan (LEM
Intellectual Property SA) is the Chapter Chair, and Dr. Luca Dalessandro (Schaffner
AG) is the Secretary/Treasurer.
7. Chapter foundation: IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society
Heinz Wipf (skyguide Swiss Air Navigation Services ltd) is the Chair of this Chapter
and Luca Quiriconi (Swiss Air Force) is Vice Chair. The Chapter has at the moment 35
members.
The Chapter creation was accepted by the AESS on 28th of March 2014, while the
Chapter inaugural event was on 09th of June 2014 at Zurich Airport (an article was
published in the R8 News journal). Also, emphasis was put on exchange between chairs
with the newly founded German AES Chapter.
Regarding past events, Heinz Wipf mentions the Joint AES Lecture with Swiss Crows
“New Generation Jammer Architecture for Shared Apertures”, on 9th of July 2014 and
secondly the Joint Lecture with ION-CH and svfw on "GPS and SBAS Modernized
Signals Applicable to Aviation", on 14th of November 2014. Thirdly, on 19th March
2015 there was the Joint Lecture with svfw "Optische Lande- und Rollhilfen".
An upcoming event will be on 25th of June 2015, 17:15 – 18:15 at the ETH in Zurich

Near-term Future”.
8. Reports from other chapters and Affinity Groups
At this point, a highlight on some of the most active chapters and affinity groups is
presented.
Heinz Mathis (Chair, Industrial Relations) presents the Chapter’s activities in 2014.
National Society Agreements with Electrosuisse and Swiss Engineering (reduced fees
for joint members) have been renewed. The Chapter was Co-Organizer to acquisition
event for apprenticeship “electronics technician” (Rapperswil, June 11, 2014), and to
event on Robotics (Zurich, November 26, 2014). Looking into the future planned events
for the Industrial Relations Chapter in 2015, Heinz Mathis pointed out that they would
be Co-Organizer to the acquisition event for apprenticeship “electronics technician”
(Rapperswil, June 3, 2015) and to the event on Microelectronics (Zurich, November 11,

Klaus-Peter Brand (Chair, Power and Energy Chapter) presents the most important
events he organized with his chapter, such as the “From power producers to energy service
providers” event, CH IEEE PES Workshop, on March 25th 2015.
Hugo Wyss (Chair, Life Members Group) talks about the Life Members Tour. He says
that the Life Members Affinity Group (168 members in Switzerland) will participate on
May 11-12 in the IEEE European TechTour.
9. Financial report for 2014
Andreas Koschak points out that IEEE Switzerland Section received highest possible
Rebate in 2014 and that many events were sponsored in 2014.
Andreas Koschak presents the last year’s budget. The Financial Report is done using
Netsuite tool. Special financial support was offered to planned Student Branch and
Young Professionals Events (for example IPT2014 (ipt.epfl.ch)). The Reserve
Allocation Expense is added to the balance (liability: the reserve is not transferred to
IEEE HQ, but cannot be spent).
Andreas Koschak also presents the Budget for 2015 (more details on the slides at the
end of these Minutes).
10. Approval of the financial report
Volker Koch asks the audience to vote for the approval of the financial report for 2014.
There was unanimous vote to approve it.
11. Discharge of the ExCom
At this point, we move to the vote on the discharge of the ExCom for the last two years.
There is unanimous decision for the discharge of ExCom.
12. ExCom Election
Now we proceeed to the new ExCom election. Volker Koch presents the slide with the new
ExCom and then asks the audience to vote on this. There is unanimous decision for the
election of the proposed ExCom for the next two years (2015-2016).
13. Statement of the new chair, including budget for 2015
Andreas Koschak, the new elected Chair of the IEEE Switzerland Section for 2015-
2016 begins his statement as Chair. His talk commences with presenting the results of a
small informal poll that has been made in industry environment, about „What is
IEEE?“. A WiFi Standard, a magazine publishing house, conferences for PhDs were
some of the answers received on this occasion.
His mission statement points out that, at it is known, the IEEE is the world's largest
technical professional society, and an association dedicated to advancing innovation and
technological excellence for the benefit of humanity.
Then Andreas Koschak points a few key topics for 2015/16, namely regarding
awareness and visibility as an international organization (including making the IEEE

Version 1, 17.05.2015 5
visible to the industry), establishing a clear legal status, communication within IEEE
(for the latter topic, in his opinion there is too much top-down broadcast communication,
too many e-mails, etc.). More details on this subject can be found on the slides at the
end of these Minutes.
Andreas Koschak then asks the audience if they have some questions. To the question
of the Student Branch visibility increase, Andreas Koschak advises that the
communication/advertisments shoud be made by the branch itself. Andreas Koschak
warmly thanks the audience for their presence at the IEEE Switzerland AGA 2015.
14. Miscellaneous
Volker Koch warmly thanks the audience for their presence at the IEEE Switzerland
Annual General Assembly 2015. Volker Koch also thanks again the whole ExCom
(Vice-Chair & Treasurer: Andreas Koschak, Secretary: Maria-Alexandra Paun) plus all
the Chapters and Affinity Groups Chairs, for their great work in the past two years.
Finally, Volker Koch thanks Wladek Grabinski for his involvement in the organization
of the Annual General Assembly 2015 at EPFL.
The floor is now open for the Talks, demonstrations, and tour (organized by EPFL
STI/IEL Nanolab) until 17:00 and later (after 17:00) for the Standing dinner at EPFL.
***The meeting/official part adjourns around 15:15 ***
