Rules and etiquetteCode of conductOur anime convention has a number of rules, policies, and regulations that help make the convention run smoothly and be as fun as possible for everyone. We encourage you to read our rules to understand what is expected to help make the best, most successful, and most fun weekend possible. Violations of these rules and responsibilities can result in loss of privileges, up to and including ejection without refund, legal action, or involvement of the authorities.

The Most Important Rule: Do not do anything that could make the convention less fun for other attendees, the hotel, the staff, or for yourself. If it’s dangerous,

obnoxious, uncomfortable, or otherwise, do not do it. It is all of our responsibility to make sure that everyone has a safe, respectful, and fun weekend.

If it is illegal outside of the convention, it is illegal here. Excessive or underage alcohol use, drug use, harassment, carrying firearms, and many other things are illegal, and will result in your loss of the privilege to attend our convention. If you have a safety or security concern, bring it to the convention’s operations center immediately. In emergencies, dial 911.

If you are hosting a party where alcohol is being served, it is your responsibility as host to ensure that the age of anyone drinking alcohol is checked. You should also designate someone not to drink, so that there is a fully competent person present to deal with any emergencies that might arise.

All attendees must wear their badge at all times throughout the convention, and it must be presented to convention staff on request at any time.

Cosplay props/weapons must be checked and peace bonded. No live-steel, realistic-looking guns or other potentially hazardous props will be allowed.

Selling anything of any kind at the convention is prohibited unless you are a registered exhibitor with the convention.

Bootleg merchandise is prohibited. If you suspect a vendor of selling unlicensed goods, please alert a volunteer or staff member.

Please only use public walkways, elevators or stairs. Do not obstruct thoroughfare.

Pets and animals are not allowed in the convention space or hotel, unless they are working animals (such as seeing eye dogs).

Smoking and vaping are not allowed in our hotel (including the courtyard).

Be courteous during any ‘ribbon hunting’. Ribbon distributors are usually busy members of the staff, exhibitors or guests. At times they may be too busy to award any ribbons. But when available, they will be happy to award any ‘earned’ ribbons. Please do not try to barter for or trade for ribbons that have not been earned though.

By attending the convention you understand that convention staff may take video footage and photographs throughout the convention which may be used in highlights, marketing endeavors, or other media. You consent to be filmed or photographed by staff, approved industry, or media during the entire convention without compensation to you. Your attendance constitutes a grant of rights to the convention to reproduce, display, distribute, perform, creative derivative works of, or otherwise use any video or pictures that it obtains and in any manner throughout the world in perpetuity, including online, for broadcast, or other transmissions.

These rules apply to all types of attendees, including exhibitors, press, and other congoers. We may also establish additional policies covering press, exhibitors, and others.

The convention’s code of conduct and other rules are subject to change at any time, and without notice, at the discretion of the convention. Violation of the rules is grounds for immediate loss of your convention badge and suspension from the convention.

Con-Jikan Ski PatrolYou can recognize Con-Jikan’s volunteer force by their distinctive red garb bearing this year’s insignia. Our talented crew can assist with directions, questions, and rules violations. They’re stationed all around the convention, so there should never be a volunteer out of earshot.

Don’t hesitate to call on a member of the ski patrol if you need help — that’s what they’re there for! And if your case requires an extra level of attention, the CJSP will get you to a staff member pronto.

on the subject of ribbons

Ribbons are a unique aspect of Con-Jikan where attendees are rewarded for engaging with what the convention has to offer. You might get one for participating in a panel, meeting with a guest, or bundled with a purchase in the exhibitor’s hall!

That being said, please keep the following in mind when “ribbon hunting:”1. Ribbons are not everywhere; please be respectful when inquiring about ribbons

and do not hound ribbon distributors. 2. Some ribbon distributors will have specific requirements for ribbon acquisition

and not everyone will be entitled to certain designs (e.g. Cosplayer ribbons are reserved for cosplayers).

3. Do not haggle with a ribbon distributor; be nice.

Anti-Harassment policyCon-Jikan takes a firm stance against harassment, which includes the following behaviors:

• Stalking• Unwanted photography or

recording• Intimidation

• Continuous disruption of events• Offensive comments• Inappropriate contact• Physical violence.

In addition, Con-Jikan prohibits discrimination, hate speech, and verbal abuse. If you witness, or are the victim of, harassment, please notify Con-Jikan staff immediately.

Chess on a giant chessboard, where each cosplayer plays a role. Each capture pits characters from very different universes against one another, and the entire event is emceed for maximum drama!

A keystone event where cosplayers display their skill in craftsmanship and performance before a live audience. Contestants show off their costumes on stage in front of a panel of judges, who evaluate each entrant before awarding prizes.

Rules and PrizesPrizes are awarded for excellence in the following categories:• Craftsmanship, for cosplay that is more than 50% participant made or modified

and demonstrates considerable attention to detail and commitment to the art and craft of costuming.

• Performance, for performance art that is true to the character, series, or mood of the cosplay; demonstrating a powerful stage presence and a passionate portrayal of fandom.

• Best in Show, for the masquerade performance that combines both a talent for craftsmanship and a passion for performance art.

• Audience Choice, for the masquerade performance that recieves the most positive reaction from the audience.

To Sign Up...If you would like to participate in the Masquerade, you must sign up or check in at the Event Registration desk between 10a and 3p on Saturday.• You must attend pre-judging at your assigned time between 3p and 5p.• You must provide or suggest pre-recorded sound or music to accompany you

during your stage time (30-90 seconds)

Lauren LandaBorn and raised in Los Angeles, California, Lauren Landa has been acting for the stage since age 11, and has served as Assistant Director for several theatrical productions. Behind the mic, she is known for her roles in anime, including Kyoko Sakura (Puella Magi Madoka Magicia), Annie Leonhardt (Attack on Titan), Merlin (Seven Deadly Sins), and Sailor Neptune in the VIZ dub of Sailor Moon. In the realm of video games, you can hear her as Female Robin (Super Smash Bros.), Kasumi (Dead or Alive 5), Litchi Faye Ling (BlazBlue), and Squigly (Skullgirls), among many others.

Johnny of Junkers Cosplay is a Navy-veteran-turned-cosplayer/engineer. He has been cosplaying since 2011, when he was given a chance to make a promotional piece for Bioware’s Mass Effect 2. In the time since then, he has worked with Riot Games, Rooster Teeth, and KOG Studios to bring characters to life as both craftsman and model. He is the winner of MYX TV’s first season of “Call to Cosplay” (returning as a judge for the second and third seasons) and a Crunchyroll Cosplay Ambassador.Johnny is keen to share his expertise with cosplayers interested in building props and armor.

Dustbunny is a Los Angeles-based cosplay artist who has been designing and donning costumes since 2003. In that time, she has made over 50 costumes and won several awards, including first place in the 2014 EZCosplay Contest. Many of her costumes incorporate original takes on familiar properties — she is perhaps most well-known for her Totoro gown, which is modeled after characters in Hayao Miyazaki’s “My Neighbor Totoro.”She has a genuine love for cosplay and will help anyone who wants to become a cosplayer!
