Event registration FoR

For those planning on attending GamerNationCON on March 30-April 2, 2017 – we’d love it if you wanted to save the galaxy and run some events for the scum and villainy of the Con! (Remember, each hour of a registered event you run or GM earns you convention XP, just as if you were playing.) This quick guide will walk you through the process of registering your events. For a small Con like ours, we’re using a wordpress solutuion which is easy and gives our GMs (and us) a great deal of flexibility.

All events must be registered by March 3, 2017.

Step 1: Register on the convention website (or log in, if you’re already registered).

First things first. - Head to http://gamernationcon.com

and click “Register” from the Admin section at the bottom of the page. (Or “Log in” if you’re already a registered user.”

gAmERNATioncoN 2017

a guide for heroes who want to run events in a Galaxy far, far away...

- After registering, you’ll be taken to your personal profile page, where you can add more info about yourself, upload pictures, or all that other crazy stuff that websites want you to do when you register a profile with them. o What we really need from you here

is to ensure that your “Nickname” is the same as your Kickstarter User Name (if you reserved a badge from the Kickstarter) or your Badge Name (which you responded on the Kickstarter survey that you’d like to have printed on your Convention Badge).

- Click the “Update Profile” button at the

bottom of your profile page, and you’re all set!

Step 2: Figure out what events you want to run.

Yeah, this sounds easy, but in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the Con, one must be mindful. So, start by asking yourself some questions. - What kind of game or event do I want to run? RPGs? A Board Game? A Miniature Event? A LCG Tournament? A Seminar? - What will by event be titled? How many players/attendees will I allow? What materials (if any) do the players need to bring? Make sure your event adheres to the following event submission guidelines. If it doesn’t, it probably won’t get approved. - A single event shouldn’t last longer than 5 hours. 4 hours is the max you should honestly shoot for. (Yes, there may be exceptions to this. If you’ve

got some crazy long event you want to run, shoot GMs Chris or Dave an email at [email protected] or [email protected] and pitch your wild and crazy idea.)

- No event tickets will cost the participants any money. Tickets are also “sold” on a first-come, first-serve basis from the website. - While an event may have mature themes (like a hard boiled crime drama RPG that centers around killers-for-hire), no event will be allowed that

focuses on sexually explicit or vulgar themes. - You are expected to reasonably supply any materials for your event, with obvious exceptions:

o You’re not expected to supply a rulebook for every player, but you (the GM) need to have a rulebook on hand, if one is needed. o You don’t need to provide obvious and commonly expected player materials, like dice or pencils – but any expected player-provided materials

(even dice and pencils) do need to be a part of your event description. o If running a miniatures/card game event or tournament, players should be expected to provide their own miniatures/decks, unless the event

description says otherwise. o If running a board game event, you are expected to provide the board game. We will have a large library of board games on site, but there is no

guarantee you’ll be able to get what you need.

Step 3: Submit your new event.

Now that you’re registered and logged in, and you’ve figured out all the details of the event you want to run, you simply head to the website and add it! - Once you’re logged in, at the top of any page of http://gamernationcon.com, you’ll find a quick menu button that says “+ New”.

- Expanding this button will give you the option to create a “New Event”.

You’ll then be taken to your very own New Event Page! This lets you not only register the event for players to grab tickets, but actually creates a webpage on our site for your event. You can put tons of detail here, but there are a few things that are a MUST HAVE for us to approve the event: - A synopsis of the event, including what game/system it involves.

o What materials are needed and provided for the event. o The expected player level of experience. o The age-range/maturity level of the event

- The date, start time, and end time of the event. The event hall is open:

Thursday March 30 12:00pm - 2:00am Friday March 31 9:00am - 2:00am Saturday April 1 9:00am - 2:00am Sunday April 2 9:00am - 2:00pm (After 2:00pm, the Con closes down for the Con Auction and final ceremonies!)

o Now… timing is important, here. We’d prefer to schedule events around specific Start Times, to ensure cohesion, and that attendees can plan a meaningful schedule. Below is our preferred Start Times for events on each day of the Con:

Event Start Times Thursday 1:00pm 3:00pm 5:00pm 7:00pm 9:00pm 11:00pm (While the Con will be open until 2:00am, in the interest of our staff

and attendees’ schedules, we’d prefer it if no event started after 11:00pm. We’ll be kicking folks out to clean up at 2:00am, sharp.)

Friday 9:00am 11:00am 1:00pm 3:00pm 5:00pm 7:00pm 9:00pm 11:00pm Saturday 9:00am 11:00am 1:00pm 3:00pm 5:00pm 7:00pm 9:00pm 11:00pm Sunday 9:00am 11:00am

o This schedule ensures that new events start every 2 hours (roughly), and thus, RPG events should shoot for a 4 hour time limit, and board

game/miniature events should shoot for a 2 hour (or less) time limit.

- The number of tickets that will be available for the event (the number of players/attendees the event can support, besides you).

- Once you’ve gotten it all filled out, simply click the “Submit for Review” button on the side of the page.

o The Convention Staff will review your event, and contact you with any questions via the email on your site profile (so make sure that’s a good

email!). o If the event passes muster, we’ll fill in the blanks and APPROVE it! From then on, the event is visible to other attendees, who can register for

tickets once their registration period opens up in March. o Attendees can also visit your event page on the site, and make comments or ask questions – giving you the ability to get your players pumped

and ready for your event.
