I write this report with my most sincere gratitude to you and your organization for supporting and playing an

instrumental role in making a success. It is my great pleasure to present to you the Post Event Report for Design Mission Middle East 2013.

The following report entails the highlights of our initiative along with its outcomes and the future avenues for the coming years in the construction sector of Qatar. With two days of intense meeting rounds, the goal for establishing a forum for successful procurement of products was met out. The cross section of the DSI meeting module was visibly seen to be a highly unique format in the Qatari region. It was clear that solution providers were finally presented with a format wherein their outreach extended to the 3 key stakeholders involved in the live ongoing projects thereby enabling them to reduce lead and sales cycles. On the other hand, buyers were pleased to have a dedicated corporate table to represent the chosen live project and in meeting the solution providers who have been pre-qualified by Team IDE on their behalf, they could accelerate the procurement process.

Along with the emphasis on facilitating meetings, the agenda showcased two key industry focussed discussions at the start of both days. On Day 1, we had Chris Garrod, CEO at Chris Garrod Global Limited deliver an acutely relevant presentation on “Realizing Design Concepts and Operator Standard within the Owner's Budget”. This was an important point of discussion for the attendees to be able to deliver projects within prescribed schedules and as efficiently as possible. Our Strategic Partners for Design Mission Middle East 2013, Qatar Green Building Council, addressed the attendees on Day 2 with “The Business Case for Green Building” led by Eng. Meshal Al Shamari, Director at QGBC followed by the synopsis of “The Experiment of the Passivhaus Project” led by Dr. Alexander Amato, Head of Sustainability at QGBC.

This has been an exciting time for IDE as we launch the Design Mission series across continents, the next of which will be hosted in Turkey, followed by Morocco, Azerbaijan and Iraq. As we grow, it is our commitment to ensure we make a difference to each new market we enter and help you build valuable business ties along the way. We will continue to support the industry on all levels by delivering business results, promoting exchange of knowledge and recognising excellence.

DAY 1 Highlights

The morning of the 4th of June gathered the likes of 30 solution providers at 08:00 AM at the W Doha Hotel, taking them to 3 distinctive sites of projects on going in Qatar.Doha Oasis Mixed Use Development located at Musheireb, was the first on the site visit route map where the suppliers were guided through the projects requirements by Mr. Osama Abdou, Project Manager and Mr. Nabil Mango, Operations Manager at Projacs International.The second site visit was the Lusail Marina Residential Twin Towers located at the iconic Lusail City and guided by Eng. Gopinath B., the Project Manager with Ismail Bin Ali Trading and Contracting Company.

The last of the site visits, the prestigious Al Baker Executive Towers was located at Corniche, West Bay of Doha guided by Mr. Mohamed Algendy PMP, Manager of Construction Supervision and Project Management at James Cubitt & Partners Engineering Consultancy – Qatar.After a fabulous lunch hosted exclusively for the Solution Providers at the award winning restaurant, Spice Market, the registrations for delegates opened at 04:30 PM at The Great Room of the W Doha Hotel.Once seated at their designated corporate table, the attendees of Design Mission Middle East 2013 were welcomed by Ganesh Babu, Director at IDE Global, who highlighted the inspiration and goal in hosting such an initiative

The attendees were then treated to a special presentation themed “Realizing Design Concepts and Operator Standard within the Owner's Budget”, led by Mr. Chris Garrod, Founder and CEO at Chris Garrod Global Ltd. The next two hours, between 06:00 PM and 08:00 PM, consisted of effervescent chatter as we began with the DSI meeting format wherein the solution providers were making the rounds to specific project tables that had indicated a requirement for their product.Following the DSI meetings, the attendees were privately invited to an exclusive cocktail reception at the pool side restaurant, Wahm, winding up the day by about 11:30 PM.

DAY 2 Highlights

With an early start to the day, registrations began at 09:30 AM until 10:30 AM at The Great Room of the W Doha Hotel.The special presentation delivered by our Strategic Partners, Qatar Green Building Council, was carried out in two parts and began at 11:00 AM. The first session led by Eng. Meshal Al Shamari, Director at QGBC, was themed “The Business Case for Green Building” and highlighted the importance of green adoption and its long term benefits to developers.

The following session was presented by Dr. Alexander Amato, Head of Sustainability at QGBC, with the discussion of “The experiment of the Passivhaus Project”. This unique concept was an example of the success of green technology implementation.From 11:30 PM to 01:30 PM, we resumed the round of DSI Meetings and here again, the suppliers were moving from each of the project tables introducing their line of unique products to the buyers.At the end of the DSI Meetings, the attendees were invited to indulge themselves in a wide buffet lunch spread and open networking.
