CIMA at WOMEX 2014 WOMEX is an international networking platform for the world music industry that happens annually over a 5day period, and comprises a Trade Fair, Showcase Festival, Conference, and Film Programme. The 20 th edition of WOMEX was held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain from October 2226, 2014. For the fourth time, CIMA joined the Canada Council for the Arts, CINARS and Folquebec. CIMA once again organized a Canada Stand presence at WOMEX, CIMA also organized a private VIP reception in partnership with Canada’s folk festival buyers as well as a private B2B matchmaking event within WOMEX called the “mentoring room.” - Canadian Presence: Ten Canadian companies registered with the Canada Stand for this mission: Alma Records, cweedband.com, JKB Communications, Justin Time Records, LaFab Musique, APCM, Prod.Awkaba, Prod. L’Inconventionnelles, Reseau Ontario, and Synch Audio. - Marketing & Promotion: The Canada Stand at WOMEX was combined with the aforementioned partners. CIMA’s networking VIP reception had 32 attendees, with these guests being suggested by CIMA or Canada’s folk festival buyers and business cards were collected. CIMA’s matchmaking event included 11 international delegates. - Outcomes: The matchmaking event held at the Canada Stand was a success, with 100 meetings occurring over 1 hour. Survey respondents indicated that they gained 162 new contacts at MIDEM, and were able to meet with 45 existing contacts. Through 137 meetings, participants reported starting 42 business deals, and finalizing 22 deals. The expected real or potential revenues for the deals started at MIDEM 2014 were estimated at $82,000 over the next 36 months, while the real or potential revenues for the finalized deals are expected to generate $67,000 over the next 36 months.
