Together in Action Together, St. Michael’s once again exceeded its 2017 TIA goal of $125,900. A gracious thanks to all parishioners for your generosity, compassion, sacrificial giving and caring for one another. St. Michael’s goal for 2018 is $124,386. The campaign theme is "For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.” In responding to this teaching of Jesus, let us join together and pool our resources to bring mercy and the love of Christ to our friends and neighbours.

The TIA beneficiaries are numerous local charities, ministries in sup-port of parish life, Catholic missions serving across Canada, Mission Council work internationally, and Development and Peace efforts promoting social change and justice at home and abroad.

Parishioners are now able to make donations by debit from a chequing or Visa and Mastercard account using St. Michael’s process. Those parishioners donating through United Way designations, check to ensure that St. Michael’s Church, Registered Charity # 107909939RR0026 and TOGETHER IN ACTION are recorded on the pledge form, otherwise your donations will be allocated to general revenues.

Any extra funds will go to the Partnership of Hope fund which sup-ports our refugee families.

Please contact Sean Maxwell at 403 460 9838 or Deacon Art at 403 249 0423 ext 106 for more TIA related information.

Please note that the Diocese will not be mailing information packages to parishioners as in past years, so if you would like information on the campaign, packages are available in the Gathering Area or can be obtained by contacting Sean Maxwell.

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Lk 12:33)

OUR FAITH IN ACTION A Project Funded by TIA

Sonshine Community Services

Experiential Therapeutic Groups

We operate the Sonshine Centre, a residential shelter providing healing and support to women and children fleeing domestic

violence. Many of the women are victims of severe abuse and experience PTSD. Throughout the years, we have seen the

need for a different approach to healing that goes beyond the “talk therapy” and that reflects neuroscientific research results.

As trauma impacts every aspect of an individual – emotional, physical and spiritual – effective treatment needs to address all

of those areas. The Experiential Therapeutic Group has a holistic approach to healing from trauma and looks at the intercon-

nection of the body and mind within the frame of evidence based neuroscientific research.

Throughout 2017 we have offered Experiential Therapeutic Groups that have included drumming, art therapy, massage, med-

itation, pet therapy, and yoga, plus hands-on workshops.

Drumming has been particularly well received. The power of drumming has allowed many of our clients to let go and be with

their pain and trauma, finding the tears that weren’t shed before and accepting them as part of their journey to healing.

Art therapy and classes are very popular too. In one particular art class, clients were given supplies to create their own piece

of art to bring into their home. The awkwardness at the beginning of the class slowly morphed into camaraderie. They discov-

ered a new means to feed their confidence and self-esteem.

One of our clients reconnected with beading, a traditional activity that she had enjoyed in her youth. S. discovered the joy and

healing that came to her through bead work and took it a step further when she decided to make it a business. She expresses

her individuality, deals with her PTSD, and has found financial independence. In her words: “My confidence, self-esteem and

financial stability have been restored”. S. sells her bead work throughout Western Canada.

Another client wrote on her Exit Form: “Sonshine has made a difference in my life in every way. My whole life was turned up-

side down. I came here from such a bad experience and I got so much help, in every area. From exercise, food and health, legal

matters, taxes, exploring art. Many many ways, too many to explain. This time has been so healing for me and I learned what

peace is.”

Your contribution has changed lives and sent out a ripple effect into our community. We have been blessed by your support

that has supported us in changing the trajectory of lives impacted by domestic violence.
