Our College students have donated blood to the various hospitals nearby Salem. We have
donated 520 units from June 2017 to April 2018.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
On June 21st 2017, 3rd International Day of YOGA has celebrated in Sona Sports Complex.
Around 50 Sona NSS volunteers participated in yoga day celebration. The programme commenced
at 8.00a.m. The guest of honour for the programme was DR.T.M. Srinivasan, Professor in Yoga
and Physical science at S-VYASA University, Bangalore was the guest of honour for the
programme. NSS volunteers along with public performed yoga. During the event Dr.M.Usha,
Principal, Dr.V.Jayaprakash, Director-Industry connect, Dr.S.Malathi, Yoga Instructor have
addressed about importance of Yoga for peaceful mind and healthy life. Mr.P.Iyyanar, AP
(Sr.G)/IT and Mr.P.Jayaprakash AP/IT, NSS Programme Officers had an interactive session with
the volunteers. 100 people benefited by this event. The programme successfully ended by
10.30a.m.
ORIENTATION PROGRAM
On 12th July 2017, Orientation Program has conducted for NSS volunteers in PG
auditorium. Our NSS P.O. Prof. P.JAYAPRAKASH inaugurated this event. The program
commenced at 5.00 p.m. In this event around 100 volunteers participated. He addressed the
students about blood donation, service and important of NSS. He had an interactive session with
the volunteers. Multimedia and paper presentation has done by our organizers. The objective of
this event is to show the outline and theme of NSS. The students shared their views about blood
donation awareness and service minded. This event successfully ended by 6.00 p.m.
AGRI INTEX 2K17
The Agri Intex 2017, India’s Prime Agricultural trade fair was conducted from 14 to 17th
July in Coimbatore, Codissia hall. On 16th July Our NSS Volunteers helped around 100 local
farmers (in and around Salem) to reach the Agri Intex 2017 by providing free bus service. This
Expo made them to gain more information about latest Agricultural technology terrace gardening,
subsidy, etc. There was also a seminar on the topic dairy farming. Our volunteers served food for
the farmers. Finally the expo was ended by 5p.m. and volunteers reached the college by 8 p.m.
VOTER ID REGISTRATION
On 24th July 2017, Our Sona NSS conducted an event for applying voter ID to our college
students. Our NSS Programme Officer Prof Dr. P. Iyyanar and Prof P. Jayaprakash guided the
volunteers. Our volunteers helped the applicants in applying the voter ID. Around 85 students of
our college applied for voter ID. This event was conducted for two days. (24.07.2017 &
25.07.2017).
KALAM VANAM PHASE II
On 27thJuly 2017, KALAM VANAM PHASE II was catalogued by Anna University
Regional campus, Coimbatore in order to remember DR.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM’S second
cessation. The main theme of this event is “TREE PLANTATION”. About 43 members of our
Sona NSS team worked unitedly and planted 800 saplings. The event was systematized at 10.30
a.m.Tree plantation is being a major part of NSS and this event made it so worth. Finally the event
was called off at 12.30 p.m. and we reached our college by 6.00 p.m.
GRADUATION DAY
On 5thAugust 2017, our Sona NSS volunteers participated in Graduation day event which
was held in Special Auditorium at Sona College of Technology. The chief guests were Padma Shri
A.S. Kiran Kumar and Prof. Dr. R. Jayavel. The event commenced at 10.00 a.m. in which 100
volunteers participated. The volunteers actively participated, directed the people, managed the
crowd and served food. The ceremony successfully ended by 3.00 p.m.
FRESHERS DAY
On 11th August 2017, Fresher’s Day was held in special auditorium to welcome the budding
engineers of Sona. The inauguration program commenced at 9.00 a.m. Around 100 NSS volunteers
actively participated in this event. Help desks were arranged in and around the college campus and
hostel. The volunteers directed the students and their parents to special auditorium. Our volunteers
assisted in managing the crowd and serving lunch to the students and parents. The program
successfully ended by 3.00 p.m.
INDEPENDENCE DAY
On 15th August 2017, 71st Independence Day was celebrated in our college premises. The
function was started at 8.00a.m. Around 30 volunteers participated in the celebration. Our
principal Dr.USHA hoisted our national flag and delivered a speech which inspired the students.
Our NSS volunteer delivered the speech about late Indian Army officer Sepoy P.Ilayaraja and
Independence of India. The function was ended by 8.30a.m.
SWACHH BHARAT
On 17th August 2017, around 25 NSS volunteers actively participated in Swachh Bharat
movement. We started at 3.45p.m. From our college and reached Salem junction by 4.00p.m. Our
volunteers attended a seminar on Swachh Bharat and gave their ideas and suggestions on Clean
India. Our Sona NSS volunteers ought to keep their home, college and surroundings clean and
drive a successful campaign on clean India. After the seminar, we reached the college by 5.30p.m.
ORPHANAGE VISIT
On August 20th 2017, Our Sona NSS wing organized an orphanage visit to the Government
middle school for the visually impaired, LITTLE HEARTS. Around 85 NSS Volunteers actively
participated in the event. The events started at 9.30 a.m. In blind school, our NSS volunteers
interacted with the children and we conducted various events for the children. In little hearts, we
interacted with the people and exhibited their talents like singing, dancing, spoken many
languages. Our NSS programme officers distributed things which was needed by the orphanages.
And finally our NSS Volunteers return to the college by 1.00 p.m.
TREKKING FOR PLASTIC ERADICATION
On 17th September 2017, our Sona NSS wing organized trekking to Yercaud in theme of
“Plastic Eradication”. Around 100 volunteers actively participated in this event. Mr.P.Iyyanar, AP
(Sr.G)/IT and Mr.P.Jayaprakash AP/IT, NSS Programme Officers accompanied and guided our
volunteers. We departure in our college by 6.30a.m and reached Yercaud foothills by 7.00a.m. We
started climbing by 7.15am. We reached Kundoor village by 11.00a.m. And our volunteers
conducted many events like ball passing and singing for the children in the village. Refreshments
were provided to the volunteers. Our volunteers collected the plastic wastes throughout the way.
Our volunteers reached the top of the hill by 1.15p.m.
NSS DAY EVENTS
Our NSS wing conducted many events for the second years regarding NSS day celebration.
DAY 1
On 21stSeptember 2017, Ad-zap and Ground break event was conducted for the second
years. The event started by 5.00p.m. Around 40 students participated in these events. By this event
students improved their speaking ability. The event ended by 6.15p.m.
DAY 2
On 22nd September 2017, connection and Doodle-drawing events were conducted for the
second years. The event started by 5.00p.m. Around 60 students actively participated in these
events. By these events students improved their speaking ability and creative thinking. The event
ended by 6.30p.m.
DAY 3
On 23rd September 2017, Treasure hunt event was conducted for the second years. 9 teams
were selected from connection event (prelims). The event started by 2.00p.m.The students
performed many multitasking events within the given time. The event ended by 5.30p.m.
DAY 4
On 25th September 2017, Group discussion, Quiz, Poster presentation and Photography
events were conducted for the second years. The event started by 5.00pm. Around 20 students
participated in these events. By these events students improved their communication skill and
creative thinking. The eventended by 6.30p.m.
NSS DAY CELEBRATION
On 26th September 2017, our Sona NSS wing celebrated the 49th NSS day, on the theme of
plastic eradication. Around 100 Volunteers participate in this event. The event started at 5.00p.m.
Our NSS programme officer P.Jayaprakash motivated the students by giving his speech about
plastic eradication and distributed the certificates to the winners of NSS day events. The event
ended by 6.20 p.m.
WORLD SPACE WEEK CELEBRATION
DAY – 1
On 5th October 2017, ISRO celebrated their world space week with Sona College of
Technology. The various events to the students were started at 10.00 a.m. Our students guided and
encouraged the school students to participate in competitions like Quiz, Drawing, Science Expo,
etc. The event was ended by 5.00 p.m.
WORLD SPACE WEEK CELEBRATION
DAY – 2
The awareness of space has been reached to the public as they held a rally with the school
students on 8th October 2017. The rally was started at 7.00 a.m. by our District Assistant
Commissioner Mr. Selvaraj. 80 volunteers and 500 school students took part in a rally event. Our
NSS volunteers explained the ISRO models and power point panels. Dr. V. Ranganathan Deputy
Director ISRO, opened the exhibition along with our college chairman exhibition along with our
chairman Mr. C. Valliappa. The event was ended by 5.00 p.m.
WORLD SPACE WEEK CELEBRATION
DAY – 3
On 9th October 2017, Space Quiz, poster, essay writing competitions and screening space
utility videos was placed in the exhibition students from different schools visited the exhibition.
Our NSS volunteers explained the ISRO models and power point panels to students and staffs. The
models that were displayed in the exhibition highlighted the achievements of ISRO. The event was
ended by 6.00 p.m.
STAFF BLOOD DONATION CAMP
On 11th November, 2017 Our Sona NSS organized a Staff Blood Donation Camp along
with Maruthi Blood Bank in A.P.J. Abdul Kalam hall, Sona College of Technology. The camp
started at 10.00 a.m. Our Sona NSS Programme Officer Prof.Dr.P.Iyyanar and Prof.P.Jayaprakash
were initiated this camp by donating their blood and motivated their colleagues to donate blood.
Around 35 staffs were volunteered to donate blood, out of which 25 units of blood has been
collected. Our Sona NSS wing helped to conduct the event successfully. Finally the Staff Blood
Donation Camp ended by 4.00 p.m.
REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION
On 26th January 2018, 69th Republic day celebration was held in Sona College ground. Our
NSS wing participated in Republic day parade. The Event started at 8.15 a.m. Around 45
volunteers took part in the Republic day parade. Our National Flag was hoisted by
Chairman.C.Valliyappa, Sona College of Technology in the august presence of Dr.M.Usha
Industry connect, Principal Dr. S.R.R. Senthil Kumar, Sona College of Technology and Principal
Dr. V. Karthikeyan, Thiyagrajar Polytechnic College. Shri.C.Valliyappa inspected the parade and
accepted the salute from parade leaders. Principal of Sona College of Technology Dr. S.R.R.
Senthil Kumar addressed the gathering with patriotic thoughts and the function ended with cultural
programme by students of Sona College of Technology and Thiagarajar Polytechnic College. The
event ended by 11.30 a.m.
POLIO CAMP PHASE-1
On 28th January 2018, our NSS volunteers participated in Polio Immunization camp
colabrated with Salem Rotary club organized by Salem Municipality. The event started at 8.00
a.m. around 50 vounteers actively participated in the event. Our volunteer reached the main booth
in Old Suramangalam by 8.30a.m. Dr. Joseph incharge of the booth gave instructions to the
volunteers about Vaccine and door marking. Our volunteers were split into batches and send to
different places in and around old Suramangalam. More than 4000 children were vaccinated. We
covered areas of Kamanayakanpatti, Maamangam, Aandipatti, Redipatti, Solampallam,
Ariyagoundampatti, Periyamottur, Salem junction. The event ended by 2.30 p.m. and our
volunteers reached our college by 3.00 p.m.
SPECIAL CAMP 2017-2018
The important event of NSS is the 7 DAYS SPECIAL CAMP. It reveals the real service
from our volunteers. The main purpose of the camp is to create medical awareness among the
village people who doesn’t have proper medical knowledge and also provide with them free
general check-up and medicines.
SPECIAL CAMP
From 28.02.2018 - 06.03.2018, the special camp was organized by our NSS Wing of Sona
College of Technology, Salem. We adopted 2 villages Vazhakuttapatti and Erumanaickenpalayam.
The camp was held in order to promote awareness among the people and to uplift them self by
self-employment, the way to benefit in their own agricultural lands, their medical health and also
provided latest medical facilities available.

DAY 1
On the first day of our special camp (i.e.28.02.2018), we reached the village by 10.00A.M.
The Programme Officers Prof.P.Jayaprakash and Prof.P.Iyyanar and Assistant Programme Officer
Mr.R.Vaidhyanathan addressed the students and helped them in arriving various solutions to their
problems. Arrant edicts were given to the students and they were dispatched to different places of
the two villages VAZHAKUTTAPATTI and ERUMANAICKENPALAYAM. We surveyed
the villages by asking about the basic needs of the villagers. The data are collected through
GOOGLE FORM. In the afternoon, we examined the needs of the villagers based on the
information collected on forenoon. Depending on their requirements, several analysis were done
to bring out the essential solutions to their problems. Finally, we left the village by 8.00P.M.
DAY 2
On the second day of our special camp (i.e.01.03.2018), E-LEARNING AND SCIENCE
EXPO programs were conducted to the school students of the villages VAZHAKUTTAPATTI
and ERUMANAICKENPALAYAM in the forenoon. Our students taught the usage of computer
and its application in various fields to the school students. Also they explained various chart works
and protects to the school students. In the afternoon one day farmer event was held, where
Mr.Palanisamy, a native farmer explained to the students about the growth and maintenance of
Jasmine plant. In the same session, SELF EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR WOMAN was
held which was addressed by Mr. Raja the coordinator of CSRI, Sona College of Technology and
Swamikannu the coordinator of CSRI, Thiagaraja Polytechnic College. They explained on special
courses for household women. The events went on successfully and we reached the college by
5.30 P.M.
DAY 3
On the third day of a special camp (i.e.02.03.2018), EYE CAMP was conducted on
forenoon. About 77 villagers were checked up by the doctors from Agarwal's eye hospital. A
Survey was conducted by our students priorly to canvass the people. Mr.Rajendran, the manager
from Agarwal Eye Hospital conducted the checked up with the help of 3 other numbers. The
afternoon session consisted of FIRE SAFETY MANAGEMENT and ONE DAY FARMER
event. In the former event, 5 men from the fire safety department addressed the people and
experimentally showed them how to turn off fire in case of emergency. In the latter event
Mr.Palanisamy explained the students about the cultivation of Jasmine plant. The events went on
successfully and we reached the college by 5.00 P.M.
DAY 4
On the 4th day of a special camp (i.e.03.03.2018), GENERAL CAMP was conducted on the
morning session. Dr. Mohan, MBBS, DNB, Dr. Dinesh, MBBS, Dr. Anandh, M.D conducted
medical check-up which included ECG, blood sugar test, blood pressure test and General medical
check-up. An awareness address was given by the staff members CSE department of our college.
About 150 villagers got benefited in the event. AADHAAR CARD CORRECTION was held on
the entire day. Our volunteers greatly helped in guiding the villagers. About 100 members got
benefited in the event which included correction and addition of names with other data. The events
went on successfully and we reached the college by 5.00 P.M.
DAY 5
On the 5th day of our special camp (i.e.04.03.2018), BLOOD CAMP was conducted on the
morning session. Mr. Varman the operator from Maruthi blood bank tested the people and their
blood types. About 137 villagers got benefited. A card was given to the person who carries the
name of the people along with their blood group. Interaction with the Alumni of Sona NSS was
held at the afternoon. Most of the Alumni visited the Campsite and interacted with the students.
They shared their experience with the students which being motivational the students got inspired.
The events went on auspiciously and we clocked into the college by 5.00 P.M.
DAY 6
On the sixth day of our special camp (i.e.05.03.2018), TREE PLANTATION and
SCHOOL EVENTS were spruced up. Saplings of different plant varieties had been tilled up in
several houses. School events were acquitted in the schools in both the villages of Vazhakuttapatti
and Erumanaickenpalayam. Events like Drawing, Hand writing competition, Dance, Picture
identification and several other programs were conducted for the school students to outcome their
talents. Inspirational speech was given to the School Students by our NSS Volunteers. In the
afternoon session, LAW AWARENESS EVENT was held on, where Mr. Dhanasekaran,
Assist.Prof and Mr. Manicka Vinayakam, Assit.Prof from SALEM LAW COLLEGE addressed
the villagers and volunteers about Human Rights and basic laws that every commoner should have
known. The events went on thrivingly and we set foot in the college by 7.00pm
DAY 7
On the 7th day of our special camp (ie.06.03.2018), VETERINARY CAMP was held.
Mr.Shanmugam, Veterinary doctor checked up the domestic animals and medicated them. About
31 villagers strived in the camp and got betterment with their livestocks. The afternoon session
consisted of CULTURAL PROGRAM where our volunteers showed of their talents in the form
of dances, dramas and motivational speech. The villagers were very much delighted to see our
students performing on stage. The rejoice went on throughout the entire session. The stage, also
boarded the talents of the natives. Mr. SEERANGAKUMAR, a native in Vazhakuttapatti
performed his art of yoga and surprised everyone. The fruitful events were completed and we
reached the college by 9.00 P.M
POLIO CAMP PHASE II
On 11th March 2018, our NSS volunteers participated in Polio Immunization camp

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
On 5th June, 2018 Our Sona NSS wing celebrated the world Environment day. The event
started at 3.00 pm. Our chief guest Dr. S.R.R. Senthil Kumar principal of Sona College of
Technology motivated the students by giving his speech about by environment day. Around 200
volunteers and our college Directors, all HODs actively participated in rally moment. We started
at 4.00 pm from our college and reached five roads and return back to our college by 6.00pm.
