A Message from the MayorA Message from the MayorA Message from the MayorWelcome to Auburn,

a 120 year old city that is young at heart. This community of almost 70,000 people, with a service area of a quar-ter of a million, un-derstands its role as a community center in the middle of two counties, yet still believes in its heart of hearts that it is a small town.Welcome to Auburn,

the arts and entertain-ment center of two counties with the larg-est outdoor amphithe-ater, largest horse-rac-ing track, largest casino, live theater and a real live Main Street.Auburn is the land of

two rivers, thirty min-utes to the sky slopes, ten minutes from water skiing and thirty min-utes from the ocean.

We have housing that is a century old to some of the newest develop-ments in the region available to you with 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools and 4 high schools, along with our beautiful Green River community Col-lege tucked away in a forest-like setting. All roads meeting in

4 EVERYTHING AUBURN 2011 Residents’ Guide

Welcome to the Auburn School District! The district is centrally located between Seattle and Tacoma, at the center of the Green River Valley of South King County. The district encompasses ap-proximately 60 square miles and serves a population of 70,000 residents. More than 14,600 students attend Au-burn’s 22 schools. The dis-trict strives for academic ex-cellence. A broad range of programs provide students opportunities to excel. The district motto, “Engage, Ed-ucate, Empower” represents the commitment to student success.

Our students are amazing citizens. Our schools pro-vide the local food bank and blood bank with generous donations to support the

needs of the community. Students excel in academics, arts, debate, and leadership activities. Journalism, music, robotics, career and techni-cal, athletics, yearbook, and associated student body are examples of programs where students garner state and national recognition.

Partnership with Com-munities in Schools, City of Auburn, Auburn Youth Re-sources, Boys and Girls Clubs, White River Museum, Junior Achievement, and YMCA re-sult in an array of programs where students thrive aca-demically and socially. High school and middle school career fairs, Reaching Out Fair, and gang prevention events foster healthy com-munity actions that build on the strengths of our youth.

Parades, Good Ol’ Days, and youth days create a commu-nity spirit that nurtures the development of our chil-dren.

The future is promising with the many successes our students attain including Grammy Awards, scholar-ships, 92% of students meet-ing standards, post-second-ary success, and community participation. Our schools develop both the academic skills and character of our children.

The Auburn School District champions its diversity. The richness of the cultures that represent our student body is an asset to student learn-ing. The school board pro-vides strategic leadership for the continuous improve-ment of our schools. Our

community supports our lev-ies in even the toughest of times knowing that a child’s education is paramount.

Did you know? In 2010, through our customer referral program, we donated 48,670 lbs. of fresh food to area food banks through Rotary First Harvest.

Refer a customer and they buy a vehicle, $200 goes to you. Better yet, even if they don’t buy, 300lbs. of food is donated to this worthy cause. Since 2007 the total is 144,770 lbs. of food provided. We are proud of the part we play in helping those in need.
