Before we begin....

General misconception about evidence base innovation management: SILVER BULET.

Don’t manage the rate of failure, manage the COST OF FAILURE.

The culture an organization has is the result of the processes it has used in the past.

Stop baling the culture, start changing the processes!

Page 4: Evidence Based Entrepreneurship vs. The Enterprise

The paradigm of the one-size-fits-all baseball cap. An enterprise tends to regard its processes, structures, KPIs and human resources as one-size-fits-all.

Past KSFs are assumptions for future ventures - validate before you execute!

The innovation paradox.

Becoming the best at what you do, sets you up for failure in the long run.

The innovation roadmaps(IRL & TRL)

There’s only one reason for not using it: you don’t want to know how much $$$ you’re burning and on what.

Innovating is a silo structure (matrix included) is like trying to run a marathon with your hands tied behind your back, blindfolded, backwards and be expected to win. Good Luck!

If the silo structure would have a kid with the lean start-up it will be named THE LEAN WATERFALL :)

Having an incubator / accelerator doesn’t make much of a difference.

Why they fail:

- run by the wrong people (no business building experience)- hierarchically subordinated to the wrong entity- no clear exit or integration criteria - no clear career path for the people involved- mentors of varying quality & commitment- no M&A support- no right level buy-in- revenue related performance indicators, no innovation accounting- NIH & NMFJ syndromes

Then what will the solution be?

‘Business-model-stage’ centric departmentsor an ambidextrous organization

Business model innovation. Stop thinking in terms of product development & product owners; start thinking in terms of business models & business owners.

www.danto.ma

No point in iterating a product’s features if you don’t iterate the business model behind.
