WHY MUST WE ACT?

• Our present levels of student performance show us that many students meet or exceed rigorous standards of learning excellence.

• There are other groups of students who do not have the learning opportunities or reach the learning levels needed to complete their MCPS education ready to be successful in college, career, and community.

• These learning disparities fall most heavily on Black or African American students, Hispanic/Latino students, and students impacted by poverty.

• As our student population continues to grow, our capacity to ensure the success of these children will define our own success.

Big Picture2017-2018:• New Evidence of Learning Framework based on multiple measures, to determine if our students are learning and learning enough

• Changes to testing and required assessments• Implement a student data system to enable teachers to monitor student progress, analyze results and inform instruction

In the future:• Develop a personalized professional development system, that provides support to teachers in real time based on student needs

Why Multiple Measures?

• Increase opportunities for all students to demonstrate learning

• Multiple measures rather than single test score• Provides a more complete picture of the academic achievement of Black or African American students, Hispanic/Latino students and students impacted by poverty

More Learning Less Testing Act of 2017

• This law requires the State Board to adopt regulations that limit the amount of time that may be devoted to federal, state, and locally mandated assessment for each grade to 2.2% of the minimum required annual instructional hours, with the exception that 8th grade is 2.3%.
