Introduction Family business may be considered as just one particular

area of business within the management field. However,

research rooted in its concepts offers different view.

To validate this assertion, one must try to identify the

characteristics of the main trends & the characterization

of family business studies from the philosophy of science

perspective

This study uses an objectives procedure when identifying the structure, “Author Co-Citation Analysis (ACA)“– Small 1974.

This study Use FBR ‘Family Business Review’ Publisher as the sources of Family business literature.

The purposes of this study is to infer an intellectual structure for the family business field accounting for the

period 1988-2005

This study is structured as follows :

Discuss the basis of ACA method & explain how it works

Describes the applications process of ACA to family business

research, follow by the result

Discussions of the result.

Description of the evolution of the field from a philosophy of

science perspective

Main conclusion & direction for further research

The co-citation method studies how many times two document or authors are jointly cited in the literature. This relationship means that the authors address the same issues, but it doesn’t necessarily imply that they agree each other.

2.The weighted averaged of the dates of publications is around 1985

ConclusionAccording to the results, from the 1980’s there was en intense and sustained increase in the literature on family business and the number of mean citations of the articles published.

This paper provide a broad view of history of this field, attempts contributions synthesis of increase family business literature, and facilitate the work of academics, students, consultants, and family business entrepreneur.

1. Derived from one single publications FBR

2. The work relates to the applications of bibliographic technique

3. Derived from this methodology is that citation is not a synonym for important or relevance

1. It would be interest to broaden to the journal study & the time interval to provide comprehensive picture of the discipline

2. Combination of co-citation analysis and contents.
