Strategies for Management of Yellow rust and Karnal bunt of Wheat

Establishment of control room and task force at District and Directorate level for monitoring of the diseases.

Establishment of Pest Surveillance committee at District and block level.

Promotion of recommended Resistant varieties and discouragement of susceptible varieties

Regular monitoring and surveillance in coordination with SAU and KVK scientist

Assurance & Timely availability of recommended fungicides. Awareness through electronic media, SMS (Farmer portal), daily

The maximum Karnal bunt incidence (54.46%) was recorded in Nainital followed by Dehradun (49.52%), Haridwar (48.06) and Udham Singh Nagar (17.24).

Survey and Survellience of Yellow Rust in Crop Season

Wheat crop is monitored during the crop season by the State Government of Uttarakhand, Department of Agriculture, scientists of Pantnagar University, VPKAS Almora & CIPMC, Dehradun will have coordination with them regarding the possible occurrence of yellow rust so that timely measures are taken to avoid losses to the crop. Vigilance will be kept for yellow rust in the foot hills through extensive monitoring starting from early December onwards. If disease is spotted, the farmers should be immediately advised by for taking up recommended spray schedule. For Surveillance & Monitoring of Rust the Pest Control Advisory Committee is constituted at Block & District Level.
