CHAPTER 1: OUR BODY
Our body has many parts. Each part is different and performs different
functions. We can speak, hear, eat, run, write, walk, smell and do many
activities with the help of these body parts.
Some important parts of our body are shown in the picture below.
SENSE ORGANS
1. Our eye helps us to see.
2. Our nose helps us to smell.
3. Our ear helps us to hear.
4. Our tongue helps us to taste.
5. Our skin helps us to feel.
These ‘five friends’ are called sense organs.
Our sense organs help us to know the world around us.
Some parts of the body can be felt under our skin. They are very hard to
touch. They are called Bones. Bones give shape to our body.
1. We should keep our body clean.
2. We should bathe daily and brush our
teeth after meals.
3. We should keep our nails trimmed.
4. We should comb and oil our hair daily.
5. We should drink clean water and eat
healthy food.
6. We should take sound sleep daily.

CHAPTER 2 –My Family
We all live in a family.
A family can be small or large. A family is a basic social unit. It is very
important part of our life.
Types of Families
1.Small family: A small family (also nuclear family)is a group of people,
which is consisting of parents and one or two kids.
2.Large family: A large family is also called a joint family. It is a group of
people consisting of parents sisters ,grandparents, uncle, aunt and cousins.
3.Extended family: An extended family is a family group which includes
relatives such as uncles, aunts and grandparents as well as parents, children,
and brothers and sisters.
4.Single-parent family: There are families where children live with only
one parent. They live either with the father or with the mother. Such family is
called single-parent family.
GRANDPARENTS- Grandfather and grandmother are together called
grandparents. We love them, care for them and help them.
Mother’s mother or father’s mother is called grandmother.
Mother’s father or father’s father is called grandfather.
SURNAME-The members of a family share a common last name. This is
called their surname. It is written after their first name.
Sharma, Gupta , Sen , Das, Saha are some surnames.
What is a family tree?
A family tree shows the relationship between the members of a family. Our
grandparents form the first generation , our parents and uncles and aunts
form the second generations and we along with our brothers ,sisters and
cousins form the third generation.
Showing concern for pets:
Many of us keep pets at home for our recreation. These pets become a part of
the family. We must look after them. some commonly seen pets are cats, dogs,
parrots, and rabbits.

*Provide a clean shelter
*Bathe them daily
*Regularly vaccination
*Provide nutritious food for growth
*Play with them
*Be kind to them
A veterinarian is a doctor who looks after sick animals.

Differently- abled people are those who cannot do one or more activities that
we can do. Some might not be able to see or speak and even hear. Some
cannot walk. These people have special talent in them and we must appreciate
them.
*We must be friendly with the differently- able person and take care of them
*We must help them in their work.
* We should give respect to them.
Parents love their children:
Our parents work hard so that they can take care of us.
*They buy clothes, food, books and many other things for us.
*They send us to good schools.
*They take care of us when we are sick.
*They help us in our studies.
*We must look after the elders in our family.
*We should spent time with our family members.
*We should help them in their work.
*We must look after them when they are sick.

EVS CHAPTER -3 FESTIVALS AND FUN TIME
We celebrate many festivals. Festivals are an important occasion when we
have fun for family, friends and relatives. We celebrate many religious
festivals.
Here are some of them:
HOLI- Holi is the ‘festival of colours’. It is
celebrated in spring when flowers start to bloom.
On Holi, people put abeer, gulal or coloured
powder, and sprinkle coloured water on each other
from water guns called pichkaris.
ID-UL-FITR- ID-UL-FITR is another important festival.
This holy month of fasting is called Ramzan. On this
day people offer prayers at the mosque. People
wish each other Id-Mubarak. They enjoy a feast and
rejoice.
DIWALI- Diwali is called the ‘festival of lights’. It
celebrates the victory of good over evil. People
decorate their house with diyas and candles.
People wear new clothes. They, distribute sweets
among friends and relatives.
GURUPURABS- Ten Gurupurabs are celebrated
in a year to honour the ten gurus of the Khalsa
Panth. Guru Nanak’s birthday is of special
importance. On Gurupurab, prayers are offered
at gurudwaras ,religious processions are taken out, community feasts called
Langars are held.
CHRISTMAS- CHRISTMAS is celebrated on 25th
December to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. On
Christmas Eve, people attend the Christmas Mass
at the church. They decorate Christmas trees. They
prepare special dinners and bake cakes.
FUN TIME
Being with family and enjoying together makes us fresh and happy. It is
always fun to do things. We enjoy with our family members on holidays and
on special occasions like birthdays, weddings festivals etc. On these special
occasions we visit our relatives or wish them.
We celebrate birthday
party and weddings
together in our family.
We sometimes go to museum. We go to fairs
and watch puppet shows.
Our father takes us on a long drive for a picnic
in a garden or near a lake and there we play ,
eat food and have fun.
We even go to other cities during our
vacation. In summer, people love to go to
hill stations.
INDOOR GAMES AND OUTDOOR GAMES
We play many indoor and outdoor games with our family.
INDOOR GAMES-Indoor games are the games which we play inside our
homes.
CARROM CARDS LUDO CHESS
OUTDOOR GAMES-Outdoor games are the games which we play outside our
homes.
FOOTBALL CRICKET BADMINTON
We also play at our neighbourhood park in the evening.
All these activites keep us fresh and are fun to do.
In school we celebrate events like Annual Day and Sports Day.
