Front Cover Comparison:

The preliminary magazine was made at the very beginning of the project. I had had no previous Adobe Photoshop experience or training and so when it was created I was still learning and grasping how to use Adobe Photoshop. Not only were my basic Photoshop skills not up to scratch but there is a very clear transition in quality of the pieces between the preliminary magazine and the full product final magazine. It is evident how much I have learnt and improved just by looking at them.

Looking at the preliminary magazine and the final magazine side by side, many improvements are visible. The main picture is so much better, it looks like it fits with the magazine much more. Although the preliminary picture was appropriate, you can see that it was not edited in any way or amended in any way or cropped and fitted in any way where as that is obvious with the full product picture as the picture fits the cover perfectly and the person is the perfect size for the cover. The colours of the magazine are also much better, and work together far better than that on the preliminary magazine. The sell lines on the full product have also improved, they vary in size and colour much more appropriately and are much shorter and bigger which makes it look much more appealing.

Contents Page Comparison:

The preliminary contents page I made was not completed deliberately. It did not need to be completed to use the non-existent skills I had at the time of making it and you can see from how it is, how it would have been completed.

My preliminary contents page and my final contents page are extremely different. The double column layout has remained the same, except from the bottom of the my final contents page. The layout of my final contents page is so much better, you can see how much it is improved. On the final contents page images were also included, on the preliminary contents page no images were included and also not much text – that was also something different about my final contents page. There is lots of text on that due to the nature of the genre. You can see that the project made me see contents pages in a whole new way (as nothing is really similar between them). This is not just because the preliminary magazine was supposed to be a school/college magazine, and the final product, a music magazine. There is no page number on the contents page like there is on the preliminary. And also the name of the magazine is not displayed again (the full name, like the masthead – the name is shown instead abbreviated as “CT”).The colours are also much improved, for a start there is much more of it on the full product, it isn’t as dull and un-exciting as the preliminary contents page was.
