EWI Philanthropy Committee and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Seated: Wanda Sanchez (Bank of Hawaii) and Jun Look (Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel) Standing: Tracy Wong (EWI President, Insurance Solutions), Lauralei Tanaka (HTH Corporation), Leah Harvell (Remington College) On June 9th, the EWI Philanthropy committee organized volunteers to assist Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) with registration for their annual gala that was being held at EWI member firm, Sheraton Waikiki. The volunteers met earlier in the week with JDRF personnel for training on their very impressive electronic check-in system. The evening just flew by as we checked in JDRF’s estimated 320+ guests! We were each very surprised when JDRF presented each of us with a beautiful floating pearl necklace as a thank you (See Jun’s necklace above). From BJ Whitman/Development Manager of JDRF…….”Lauralei, thank you all for making the process so smooth for our bidders. Expediency was required that evening and you all delivered! Our guests were thrilled with the process. I, too, enjoyed working with you and hope we will have the opportunity to do so next year. Our gala is scheduled to be June 29, 2013 and I would love to work with you again. Mahalo for your service!”

Executive Women International® Honolulu

Chapter and Its Programs

Where does your money go?Executive Women International was established in California in 1938. Since then, cities throughout the United States, Canada and Europe have joined, forming a prestigious networking organization of key firms and individuals. Today, EWI has more than 2,700 companies and 3,000 representatives in chapters located in major cities. The Honolulu Chapter is strongly supported by over 42 firms.

EWI brings together individuals from diverse businesses to promote member firms, enhance personal and professional development, and encourage community involvement.

Your participation in this golf tournament will help EWI support its mission and provide generous scholarships for Hawaii’s youth and adult students in transition.

EWISP (Executive Women International Scholarship Program) provides scholarship funds to outstanding high school seniors for their pursuit of a baccalaureate degree from a post-secondary education institution. Students are judged on their application materials, oral and written communication skills, creativity, scholastic records, involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership qualities and honors, citizenship, attitude, and clearly defined career goals.

ASIST (Adult Students in Scholastic Transition) Scholarship Program provides financial support to adults in transitional situations (non-traditional students.) Financial need and social, physical and economic challenges are some of the criteria for selection. The goal of the scholarship is to enable recipients to improve their self–esteem and to have a positive impact on their personal life, employment and community through the furtherance of their education.
