large city block bounded to the east by Via XX Settembre, to the westby Via Firenze, to the southby Via Pisacane and to the northby Via Rossini. Via Rossini is planned to become the major road accessto the new Legnano railway station.
The area of the former Legnano Foundry is subdivided into two lots: lot A to the north, which includes the disused Foundry, a brick faced structure with reinforced concrete and iron structure considered oneof the finest examples of nineteenth-century industrial architecture, and lot B to the south, a green field area adjacent to the residential buildings along Via Firenze.

The Integrated Development Plan, approved on 11.11.2013, centres on the redevelopment of the disused Foundry. The core of the project isthe refurbishing of the building we see today, which envisages conservative restoration of the existing facadesof the former Foundry, in additionto new buildings in lot B.

Retail areas are located on the ground floor of the former Foundry, connected through a covered portico to Via XX Settembre and the Civic Library and up to the new plaza on Via Firenze.These areas,, will be destined for “non-food” activities with sizes up to level MS2 (1,000 m2 sales area). The shops will have interior height of 4.5 metres, and each will have 4 private parking spaces (surface and underground) in addition to unloading areas to the rear, accessible fromVia XX Settembre
The residences within the former Foundry are situated on the first level, separate and independent from the ground floor and linked directly to the private parking area in the basement. The residences are large, double height with wide windows and high quality fixtures and fittings. A particularly attractive feature of the residences will be their private hanging gardens and winter gardens, making them veritable private villas in the town.

Lot B involves the construction of new residential buildings for a total area of 10,500 m2, in part “apartment” type (toward the new Library) andin part “courtyard” type (Via Firenze/Via Pisacane). The remaining 500 m2 will be destined for local shops facing onto the pedestrian plaza on Via Firenze. The “Apartment” residences will be 4 storeys high and include single floor flats and attic apartments on two levels.The “courtyard” residences will be built on two parallel buildings that create garden courtyard spaces, for private and condominium use.Just as in Lot A, the basement levels will be dedicated to private garage space.

The redevelopment of the former Foundry features the creation of a large public green space, two plazas, a bicycle-pedestrian path connecting the Foundry with Legnano railway station and the upgrading of the existing traffic system. The new Civic Library will be constructed in the terminal end of the former Foundry, facing onto Via Firenze, and will have a total areaof around 3,000 m2 structured over three levels. The proposed design also includes additional spaces adjacent to the Library to be leasedto the Municipality for the “Science Museum”.
