How does this event meet the aims and objectives of your group?

Provide us with details on how this event is relevant to your group

As a society dedicated to celebrating and promoting comic books and comic culture, we want to branch out into gaming and allow members to socialise and enjoy a collaborative game over the course of the entire year.

As a new society, we are keen to begin organising trips and more large scale events to attract more members and improve relationships between current members. Dungeons and Dragons is a collaborate game which will be played for between four and eight hours a week for the entire academic year, which will foster fantastic relations between the players.

How will this benefit the students and/or wider communities?

Detail what specific benefits the students will

Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy role-playing game during which players assume the role of a character with specific powers, abilities, and personality.

haveIt teaches cooperation, team work, logic, critical thinking, and communication. The players will be led through the world by the Dungeon Master who designs the campaign and the terrain, hazards, and battles the players will face.

Approximately how many students would this benefit?

List how many members and students combined you expect to come to this event – We do not need a list of names.

(6 players and a dungeon master)

How does this event meet the Development Quality Outcomes? Innovative events – new ideas Aimed at developing or promoting

employability skills or opportunities Enhancing the leadership of the group for

the benefit of their members and wider student population

Making a positive impact on students, university and the wider community

This is the first long-term project that the Comic Book society have attempted. As a society that have been in operation for less than a year, we want to foster a tradition of socialisation and friendship between our members.

We believe having an outlet for our members to relax and participate in Dungeons and Dragons week-in week-out will be invaluable to the development of our society. The books, dice, and starter set will belong to the society and be passed down for future years to use and enjoy.

The game gives a wide range of skills, such as team work and communication, and the Dungeon Master will develop leadership skills as they guide the players through the game.

Unfortunately, it’s not a game that can be played with many more than six participants or the experience of playing will be diminished.

How does this event meet the Participation Quality Outcomes? Non-alcohol focused events Events that promote widening

participation agenda (positive representation of University experience to perspective students who normally would not consider it)

Collaborative events with other students groups

Educational opportunities for members, wider student body and community

Dungeons and Dragons is a non-alcohol focused game what will allow everyone to participate.

We aim to promote the campaign on social media to demonstrate that there is a space for comic book and fantasy culture at Leicester University, which will hopefully demonstrate to prospective students that their interests are catered for by an active and engaging society.

How does this event meet the Engagement Quality Outcomes? Activities that enable minority groups to

participate Engagement with Mature Students (23+

years)

Several members in attendance are disabled, fall under the LGBT+ umbrella, or are BAME. Although comics are not always diverse, inclusive, or representative as a society we strive to recognise and celebrate diversity and operate as a welcoming space for minority members.

opportunities) with alumni (past members)

Our Treasurer is a mature student and two other mature students are likely to attend this event, with it being open to other mature students who are members of our own society or another society.

Our President and Welfare Officers are Postgraduate students, as are several of our members.

How are you planning to market your event? Please include details regarding how you plan to generate interest around your event. If you would like Union Activities to help you with this, please tell us here.

We plan to include the existence of a weekly Dungeons and Dragons campaign in our first monthly newsletter going out on Friday October 6th (a week after Freshers’ Fair) and have information about it on our stall at Freshers’ Fair.

We will also be making a members-only event on Union Cloud which we will share on our public social media and post in our private Facebook group.

This event is relatively small scale and members only so we do not need Union Activities help promoting it.
