1. Introduction The VemaTEC bucket is an attachment for excavators. We can supply the bucket in various classes and versions and in each version it is a fast and effective tool.
We urgently request you read these operating instructions and follow the instructions when executing the activities. It is essential that you observe the safety regulations at all times. The safety regulations referred to are those stated in this manual, the excavator's operating instructions and the safety regulations that apply to the environment in which the product is being used, maintained or repaired. Unless specified otherwise in this manual, the conditions, operating instructions and safety regulations of the excavator's manual apply, these are not repeated here. Modifications to a VemaTEC product may only be made with written permission from the manufacturer! The guarantee terms will only apply in this case. The information in chapter 4. (Safety) of this manual is of the utmost importance and must be read by the user, maintenance personnel and anyone who is near the products. Once it has been read in its entirety, this manual must be kept in the excavator cab and be available for reference. If the product is resold, this manual must be delivered along with the product.
2. General description 2.1 Product description
VemaTEC excavator buckets (Figure 1) are high-grade products constructed from welded steel and/or cast steel parts, which are intended for coupling to a wedge-type quick coupler system. This wedge-type quick coupler system is mounted onto the dipper stick of a hydraulic excavator. The bucket may only be used in combination with a hydraulic excavator for which it is recommended, based on mass, dimensions, version and carrier range. IMPORTANT: The bucket type, the mass and volume are stated on the bucket type plate. The bucket is constructed of a welded steel construction, provided with a cutting edge and welded adapter plates. For more cutting force, screw-on teeth can be mounted.

4. Safety information It is your responsibility to observe and fulfil all relevant rules and regulations. It is also the user's personal responsibility to observe the product manufacturer's user, inspection and maintenance instructions. This manual must always be available in the user's vicinity. Should the attachment be resold, the user is obliged to supply this manual together with the product. Almost all accidents are caused by a lack of the most elementary safety regulations and safety precautions. Accidents can often be prevented, by recognising potentially hazardous situations beforehand. Read and comprehend all safety indications that explain how to prevent hazardous situations. Do not take the attachment into use before you fully understand its operation, inspection and maintenance. A distinction is made in this documentation between normal use (see Usage) and other work on the machine. The reason for this is that, particularly with an eye to safety, other demands are made of service personnel than of the operator. The activities mentioned in ‘Usage’ can be carried out by the operator. Activities that are not described in ‘Usage’ may only be carried out by specially trained personnel. Keys or special tools that are supplied to limit the access to certain parts or functions must not be left on the machine. Only persons with the required knowledge or instructions may have access to them.
4.1 Warnings The safety indications in this manual and on the machine labels are identified by the words ‘Danger’, ‘Warning’, ‘Caution’ and ‘Important’. These have the following meaning:
Danger
The word ‘Danger’ indicates a dangerous situation which, if not avoided, may result in serious injury or death.
Warning
The word ‘Warning’ indicates a potentially dangerous situation which, if not avoided, may result in serious injury or death.
Caution
The word ‘Caution’ is used to warn for a potentially dangerous situation which, if not avoided, may result in slight or moderate injury.
Important
The word ‘Important’ is used to warn operators and maintenance personnel for situations that could result in possible damage to the machine and its parts. It is impossible to provide for every possible circumstance that could pose a potential hazard. The warnings in this manual or on the machine cannot warn you of all possible eventualities. You must personally observe the necessary precautions and follow all the safety procedures while operating the machine, including the attachment, to ensure that no damage is caused to the machine, the attachment, the user or other persons.

4.2 Safety zones The safety precautions contained in this manual apply to all machines to which the attachments are mounted. While working with a hydraulic excavator with attachment, you should take account of the following safety zones around the excavator:
The No access zone – is the area where nobody except the operator should be while the excavator is in operation. Safe access to this area is only possible when the excavator is switched off.
The Danger zone – is the area where it is dangerous to be while the excavator is in operation. Only authorised personnel may be in this area and they must be in constant contact with the operator of the excavator.
The Work zone – is the area where it is dangerous to be while the excavator is in operation. Only authorised personnel may be in this area and they must take account of the activities being carried out by the excavator while it is in operation.
Figure 3: Safety zones
WARNING: When coupling or uncoupling the excavator bucket, no one may enter the above zones of the hydraulic excavator.
4.3 Important indications The following should also be taken into account:
Due to the machine's dimensions, it may not be possible for the operator to see all sides from the operating location. All persons who work or are present in close proximity to the machine must be told to assume that the operator cannot see them and that they need to take the required precautionary measures to guarantee their visibility and safety.
Only authorised persons may operate the excavator with excavator bucket. No more than one person on the machine! The bucket may only be used for activities as laid down in the specifications. Make sure that children, unauthorised persons and animals cannot gain access to the bucket! Safety devices must not be removed or disengaged. Make sure there is sufficient ambient lighting. Always follow local employment and safety laws and environmental regulations. The attachment may only be mounted onto a suitable excavator, taking account of the mass,
dimensions, version and carrier range/machine weight. It is prohibited for anyone to be within the turning circle of the excavator with attachment while in
use. The mass of the attachment, plus the mass of the loaded material, may never exceed the excavator's
maximum permitted lifting capacity with the accompanying flight. To this end, consult the excavator's manual.
The mass of the attachment, plus the mass of the loaded material, may never exceed the quick coupler's maximum permitted lifting capacity.

Bear in mind that if parts of the loaded material protrude, this additionally increases the turning circle. Beware that, for whatever reason, materials can fall from the attachment or loaded material. For this
reason, never turn above people, animals, machinery, vehicles and suchlike. Always load a long load in the centre of gravity, otherwise this may cause the attachment and
excavator to turn and/or topple. It is prohibited to hit things with the attachment. Maintenance and/or repairs may only be carried out by sufficiently trained personnel. Never carry out work on the hydraulic system when the system is still pressurised. Keep hands away
from moving parts! Prevent unsafe work situations. Keep at a safe distance from moving parts. While coupling, uncoupling, lubricating or carrying out other maintenance, the attachment must be
stable and be resting on a flat surface. Only carry out maintenance or repairs to the machine or the attachment with the engine off. Remove
the key from the ignition! Always apply the safety regulations before starting maintenance or repairs. Only replace defective parts with original parts from the manufacturer. If defective parts are replaced
with non-original parts, the entire guarantee and liability will be void. If tools, a procedure, working method or operating technique are/is used that are/is not specifically
recommended by the manufacturer, you should ensure that they/it are/is safe for yourself and for others.
You should ensure that the product will not become damaged or be rendered unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair procedures you choose.

CAUTION: No special provisions have been made for working with: foodstuffs, hazardous chemical substances, pharmaceutical or biological materials, therapeutic products or explosives.
6. Actions before taking into use For the proper operation of the bucket, before taking it into use, it is important to check the following points and to ensure that they correspond with the technical specifications as stated on the type plate, or in the technical specifications as stated in the manual.
WARNING: The type and mass of the bucket must correspond with the excavator's capacity and carrier range. The mass and volume of the bucket are stated on the bucket type plate. IMPORTANT: When using a quick coupler, you should take account of the total mass, including the quick coupler. WARNING: Excavators belonging to a lower weight class may not provide the required degree of stability and may topple over when using the bucket, which could result in personal injury or damage to the excavator. Excavators above the permitted weight class may exert too much mechanical load on the bucket. This could irreparably damage the bucket.
Check that no unauthorised persons are present in the working area of the machine.
The operator should be aware of all operating possibilities, as described in the excavator manual. These
are not repeated here.
Check that the excavator bucket has the same CW (centre width) size as the quick coupler. Refer to the dimensioning below: Figure 4 and Table 2.

7.2 Hoisting the bucket Before moving the bucket, it should always be coupled to the excavator by means of the quick coupler and emptied at the required location by operating the excavator. If in exceptional cases, this is not possible, then the bucket must be hoisted by means of a sling/choker hitch, which is hooked onto both adapter plates as shown in Figure 6 below.
Legend No. Description 1 Excavator bucket 2 Sling / Choker hitch 3 Protection
WARNING: The surface where the sling/choker hitch touches the adapter plate should be provided with a protective layer, such as plastic and/or rubber, see no. 3Figure 6. This is to prevent the adapter plate from cutting into the sling/choker hitch.
WARNING: Before use, check the work load of the sling / choker hitch. The mass of the bucket should fall within the permitted working load of the sling / choker hitch! IMPORTANT: Do not use steel cables or chains to hoist the bucket, these will damage the adapter plates.
7.3 Bucket transport and storage. Bucket transport and storage must always be done safely.
WARNING: During transport and storage, the bucket should be supported to keep it stable, e.g. by using chocks. WARNING: Before transporting the bucket, it should be secured sufficiently to prevent movement during transport. WARNING: The bucket should be handled by lifting gear that is able to lift at least the mass of the empty bucket in its working range.

WARNING: Make sure that the bucket is placed on a stable surface and, at all times, beware of the fact that the bucket may tilt backwards while uncoupling.
7.6 General malfunctions Beware! A breakdown is usually unwanted and often an attempt is made to resolve the breakdown as quickly as possible. At such time, do not forget safety and observe the following instructions.
Only personnel who are familiar with the contents of these user instructions may perform work on the machine. These persons must receive information and instructions about the excavator with excavator bucket and its safe operation, and they should know all the potentially dangerous aspects and how to deal with them.
Always follow local employment and safety laws and environmental regulations.
Switch off the excavator if you cannot remedy a breakdown quickly. Make sure that the excavator cannot be switched on when anyone is present in the danger zone.
Never remove the safety provisions when the excavator is operating. This could cause dangerous
situations with possible irreperable physical injury. Use temporary tools for necessary work where the safety provisions have to be removed.
Use only spare parts supplied or recommended by the manufacturer as replacements. Keep sufficient
spare parts in stock. Verhoeven Grondverzetmachines BV does not keep all spare parts in stock and will also have to order them first.
To order new parts, see chapter 10.
7.7 Cleaning The following actions are to be performed when cleaning the excavator bucket, depending on the work to be done:
During cleaning activities, the excavator bucket must be positioned on a clean, flat surface. If the excavator bucket is to be cleaned when uncoupled, it should be supported if necessary to prevent any unexpected movement.
The excavator to which the excavator bucket is coupled must be switched off and the key must be removed from the ignition.
Thoroughly inspect all parts for damage or defects. If in doubt, always replace the part or have it
assessed by an expert.
Wear safety shoes, safety glasses and safety gloves.
Make sure no water enters the hydraulic system during cleaning activities.

8. Maintenance Maintenance is of great importance for the reliability and life span of the excavator bucket and its components. It is the user's responsibility to establish irregularities in the function of the excavator bucket and to repair them in good time. These measures can prevent excessive wear and tear on the components and damage to the excavator bucket. The following actions are to be performed with the preventive and/or corrective maintenance of the excavator bucket, depending on the work to be done:
In general, setting up and carrying out a preventive maintenance programme (or adding an existing programme) promotes the operation, reliability and sustainability of the excavator bucket at low cost. We recommend recording all measurements, maintenance work, calamities etc. in a logbook.
Maintenance and repair work should be carried out by a professional person.
The bucket must be inspected every 500 running hours or at least twice a year for wear, deformation and crack formation. The bucket should also be inspected for wear, deformation or crack formation in the event that the bucket could have suffered damage. The results of this inspection should be recorded in the maintenance table, as shown in appendix 1.
Many accidents with excavator buckets occur during maintenance and repair. It is therefore important
to observe the safety requirements. Two important safety points are given below. These, and the safety points in chapter 4 must be observed.
Consider your own safety and the safety of others. Do not do anything that could be considered unsafe.
If a protective device has to be removed for maintenance, it must be replaced immediately afterwards.
The mechanical quick coupler may not be activated without the required protective measures.
No modifications may be made to the excavator bucket without written permission from Verhoeven Grondverzetmachines BV.
9. Decommissioning / Scrapping If the excavator bucket has to be dismantled, the instructions for waste processing that apply locally and at the time of the dismantling must be observed. Commonly known materials are used in the excavator bucket. Waste processing opportunities existed at the time of production and no special risks to persons involved with dismantling activities were known.
