Circular walk on the banks of the Rhine

The two towns of Rheinfelden could not be more different. On the Swiss side is a town with a lively history behind it that has had a town charter for nearly 900 years, while on the German side is a relatively new town that has come into being and grown following the construction of a hydroelectric power station. Between our two towns flows the Rhine, forming the shared national boundary.

Over the decades, this area between the old Rhine bridge and the footbridge by the power station has become a very attractive and interesting place to spend your leisure time: doing the circular walk you can enjoy very varied scenery and read interesting notice boards telling you about the animals and plants, some of the buildings, and life here on the border. Duration: approx. 90 - 120 minutes

Opening hours of the power station pavilion:In the winter: 1st November to 31st March (in the summer: 1st April to 31st October)Monday to Friday from 14.00 to 16.00 (18.00) hrs, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 11.00 to 16.00 (18.00) hrs.

Fricktal Museum Rheinfelden

History comes to life when it is told through the exhibits in the varied collection at the Fricktal Museum - from the archaeology in the Fricktal, to the tobacco factory and the plague.

These tell the stories of the people of Rheinfelden and the Fricktal and their lives. As well as describing exciting happenings, they also provide lots of interesting information about the hi-story and art of this region. Life as it used to be in Rheinfelden becomes almost tangible thanks to the models of the town by Gustav Kalenbach-Schröter. While the exhibition on „The Plague and the Sebastiani Brotherhood“ recalls the horrors of the plague, „Can Bells Fly...“ invites visi-tors to a hands-on experience in the museum‘s collection of sacred artefacts. And „In Sale Salus - Hermann Keller and Rheinfelden as a spa town“ you can trace the rise and fall of Rheinfelden as a world-famous spa town in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Rheinfelden outdoor pool and ice rink

In the summer months the outdoor pool is a great place to cool off and unwind, in a fantastic location right by the Rhine, and in the winter hockey players and ice dancers enjoy using the artificial ice rink.

The outdoor pool was renovated in 2014 and, with a heated pool, white water channel, water slide and a diving platform directly over the Rhine, is a lovely place to relax. As well as swim-ming, this fantastic complex also offers table-tennis, a playground, children‘s splash pool and restaurant.

In winter there is skating on two ice rinks, and the covered rink can even be enjoyed in bad weather. Every 2nd Friday evening, there‘s an ice disco. Skates are available for hire. We offer ice hockey parties or ice stock shooting for company and club events.
