2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region

Indian granite has a good market value in the world. Granite is an igneous, magma-formed rock that is generally made up of quartz, feldspar and mica. These minerals combine in varying percentages that account for the color, veining and crystallization patterns that make each granite deposit unique.

2.4 Demands-Supply Gap

The demand and supply for the color granite is growing which makes a lot of scope for revenue generation.

The earth crust is filled with different types of rock which ranges from igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Granite is an igneous rock formed from the cooling of magma in an exothermic process. Granite popularly known as chippings /gravel is a very hard stone good for building and construction works globally. It is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive felsic, igneous rock. It has a medium to coarse texture occasionally with some individual crystals larger than the groundmass forming a rock known as porphyry. It can be pink to dark gray or even black depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Granite is a hard, usually grey, stone used for building and the most common rock type on the continental land masses. It is widely distributed throughout the continental crust of the earth and is the most

abundant basement rock that underlies the relatively thin sedimentary veneer of the continents.

Its hard nature made it a very suitable and durable material for most Civil Engineering and Construction works. It is used in various ways as in;

Road Construction and Dimensional stones Building of Houses, Bridges and Drainages Manufacture of Marbles and Flooring Tiles Production of cement blocks Interior Decorations Art works (Antiquities) etc.

India is amongst the leading exporter countries of stones in the world. The major importers of Indian stones are USA, China, UK, Italy, Belgium, Germany, UAE, Hong Kong, Spain, Taiwan, Netherlands, Canada, Turkey, France, Russia and CIS countries. The growth is continuing and the demand for marble, granite, sandstone and other dimensional stones and stone products is anticipated to grow at around 15% CAGR.

2.5 Domestic/ Export Markets

Although granite is a minor mineral, it is a major contributor in foreign exchange earnings. India is the second largest exporter of raw granite after China and ahead of Brazil and South Africa.

2.6 Employment Generation

Proposed mining is semi -mechanized method and this project operation will provide livelihood to the 26 workers. It will provide employment to the people residing in vicinity.

3.5.1 Topography

Topographically the applied area is a steep rising hill, rising at the center of the Q.L area from east, west and northern side. A pillar to the southwest end corne of the Quarry Lease area is taken as assumed bench mark of 315m. 3.5.2 Local Geology

The Quarry Lease applied area comprises of Granite boulder rock formation of 1m to 2m followed by sheet rock. The type of granite exposed in the area is porphyritic granite consisting of phenocrysts of feldspar surrounded by fine ground mass of quartz and other accessory minerals. The feldspar phenocrysts is grayish in colour and therefore impart a general grey colour to the granite. At places the feldspar is pink in colour and is therefore light in colour. 3.5.3 Regional Geology

The regional geology of the applied area covering southern part of State is belonging to Peninsular Gneiss of Archaen group. The area located along the Dharwar craton which is the easterly convex, north-south trending, long, linear pluton of k-rich granite, named the Closepet Granite. Granite of this variety occurs as discrete plutons in the southern part of the State within the Peninsular Gneiss and intrudes the greenstones. They are usually described as Younger Granites, because they constitute the youngest plutonic activity in the craton.

Separation of Primary rocks from Mother Rocks :- The primary cuts i.e. the lateral and horizontal cuts by diamond wire saw cuts through slaughter holes (A 50m wire saw run gets around 600 sqm. Cut) and if situation permits by use of detonating cords a close spaced blast is performed (To leverage natural Joint). 10 Mts in length and 8 Mts in width and 6 Mts hei Sizes are produced. The wire for Granite is made of the steel wire, sintered with plastics injected on the steel wire and between diamond beds in safeguard the steel wire from the abrasive components of granite (i.e Feldspar, etc). The stationary diamond wire machines were born for three main purposes:-

Squaring and dressing of irregularly shaped blocks, preparing them final processing in slabs and tiles.

Making thickness of stone of certain width in order to utilize the best gangsaws and blocks cutter having maximum productions and profit from the processing machines.

Perform automatic cuts of block into slabs of different thickness. The block can so be programmed to have a certain number of slabs each of prescribed thickness.

Sub Division Of Large (Primary) Block Into Secondary Block (Secondary Cuts) i. Once the primary blocks are dislodged from sheet rock, depending upon the dislodged material secondary blocks are cut, fractures, black lines and penetrative cracks are all carefully trimmed and penetrative cracks are all carefully trimmed and removed by this way. ii. The commercial blocks will be trimmed so as that the sides

form right angles to each other.

iii. The size of blocks could be formed from the ROM of this property will be in the following dimension ranges.
