Exhibition Report8 - 10 May 2018 ICC Sydney, Darling Harbour
Back in Sydney for the first time since 2010,
the new International Convention Centre (ICC)
hosted ARBS from 8-10 May 2018.
With more than 300 exhibitors and in-excess of 9,000 visitors, the exhibition was the largest ARBS
to date and offered the industry unrivalled access to the latest in HVAC & R in the southern
hemisphere. The four lower level exhibition halls at the ICC hall were packed with cutting-edge
technology, hands on product and equipment displays and solutions.
ARBS is also celebrating its twentieth year in 2018, which has enabled us to reflect on the past
decades and how our industry has changed. From improvements in safety standards to the
introduction of new and smart technologies, our industry has progressed with a continuous
commitment to transform our built environment and is driven to be solution focused given the
demands of the time.
And as these demands and external pressures see our industry change, evolve and consequently
adapt, many of our business decisions are made with innovation and sustainability in the forefront
of our minds therefore it remains imperative to be well-informed. ARBS exhibitions provide the
industry a great opportunity to connect and network with leaders, peers, colleagues and suppliers
whilst discovering the latest products, systems and service evolutions in our industry.
But ARBS is not your typical tradeshow, exhibition goers were able to attend the highly
anticipated Speaker Series program for an update on industry issues; and were able to celebrate
into the night at the ARBS Industry Awards. The show floor was abuzz with the new smart building
precinct IBTech@ARBS; plus the informative Product Presentation Theatre where exhibitors
presented all the latest and greatest gear; and of course the industry newcomers participated in
the Worldskills competition.
Visitor numbers were higher than any previous ARBS, last of which was held in Melbourne in
2016, with ARBS 2018 in Sydney recording a total of 9,754 visits over the 3 days for 2018. An
overall increase of 10% over the previous ARBS.
In 2018 ARBS returned to Sydney for the first time in
8 years and the welcome back was warm indeed.
The new Sydney International Convention and Exhibition Centre proved to be an excellent venue
for the Exhibition and the Speaker Series. The fact that ARBS attracted over 9700 visits over the 3
days is a ringing endorsement of the all the event has to offer.
“ Congratulations and thanks are due to the Exhibitors for the effort put
into stand construction- the quality of build and the ambience created
in the halls was outstanding.
The commitment of the presenters in our Speaker Series was rewarded by excellent attendance
at the sessions and feedback on quality and relevance of content has been excellent.
The Awards night was a great opportunity to celebrate our industry. Congratulations to the
Awards winners and to our Hall of Fame inductees. The Hall of Famers deserve our sincere
thanks for their wonderful contribution to our industry over many decades.
All of this success would not be possible without the dedication to excellence of Sue Falcke,
Emma Higginson and the team. Their attention to detail is exemplary and very much the
foundation of the success of the event.
As we know, no organisation can rest on its laurels. The need to innovate and strive for constant
improvement is essential for ongoing success. The introduction this year of IBTech@ARBS is a
good example of ARBS willingness to innovate and we expect this to be of growing importance in
future exhibitions.
In 2020 ARBS will return to Melbourne in May and the planning cycle has already commenced for
what I am sure will be a continuation of the success we have enjoyed over recent years.

What was the highlight of your visit?
This was my first time at an arbs event. I was very surprised at the effort that was made by the exhibitors to display equipment. My employer organized our team to attend which we only attended for about 3 hours. I feel that i required longer time there so i could attend all the functions to learn new products. Next time ill take a day off to get the full experience.
Industry innovation and communication, a trade show is a great way to get the message across!
The ability to network with many HVACR businesses in one place over a short period of time.
Identifying new products that will provide cost savings & provide improved reliability & efficiencies.
Re-establishing relationships with suppliers and industry colleagues. Confirming direction of the industry re future refrigerants.
Well laid out, most exhibitors were very friendly and happy to explain their products and services.
Seeing new products, finding existing products that suit our emerging ideas for new services we offer. Definitely networking and catching up with existing friends in the business.
The opportunity to see a broad range of specialist suppliers in one place, as well as Industry Association representatives.
To see all the suppliers, competitors and technicians all under the one roof, come together and exchange conversations, stories and information while looking at the latest technologies.
Being able to meet the people working at our suppliers face to face after all the work we do over the phone. Being able to build and expand our network, as well as strengthen our existing connections.
I found new products and technologies that I was not aware of, so it was a very worthwhile visit for me.
Learning about new ways for tackling HVAC engineering problems allows me to present my clients with options to deal with ongoing problems in their workplace.
I found the items and the supplier that I so desperately needed.
Impressed by the quality of supplier displays.
it was good to further get contacts and an understanding of the industry.
I got to see so many industry contacts in one place over three days, very condensed and cost effective.
The vast variety of exhibitors was great, it covered almost every aspect of the air conditioning industry.
The supplier displays were amazing! Seeing working products in a hands on environment was a lot of fun!
Such an insight into where our industry is currently, and where it will be going in the future.
Honestly as good as it gets - quite probably the best Trade Show out there.
I work within the small sector of the HVAC world and was excellent to see the range of the industry in Australia.
Speaker series followed by site visits. Excellent insight into other engineering activity and opportunity to cross-pollinate technologies.
Improving existing relationships with suppliers and gaining new contacts with new suppliers to form relationships that will positively impact our business.
I was able to update on recent product developments, on what’s new and what’s coming up in the near future.
The networking experience is second to none!
This was a very large show compared with some other trade shows I have attended. I enjoyed the breadth of companies showing their products.
A great industry experience.
I found a lot of new technology that will help in service work and installation for the future, connecting with existing and new supplies can help me build my professional network over the coming years.
Made us realise that our company is so far behind the rest of the world.
After returning to the industry after 8 years it allowed me to reconnect with a lot of people I dealt with before. Where else do you get all these guys together under one roof? Nowhere!! Thanks.
Loved it. Helps the visitor equip for the next few years, gets a vision of what to expect to see in years to come.
Great size show, not too huge to get through but complete offering of the industry.

academics and senior industry folks.
Event was well organised and ran smoothly.
Floor plan layout was good, for a small stand away of the larger
stands we had good traffic.
It was nice to be exhibiting in a new hall and also a change up
in cities after the past 3 shows (in Melb).
I felt the venue was fantastic and visually, the show looked great.
It was the perfect venue for launching our new products.
Easy move in / out well laid out.
