Tick Requirements

Official cattle tick inspection and treatment

All stock being moved from Queensland´s infected zone to any other zone in Queensland or to another state or territory via Queensland must be inspected and have a supervised treatment for cattle ticks by an inspector or an approved person.

Inspection and treatments usually occur at an approved clearing facility. Clearing facilities include dips or inspection centres located near the infected zone´s boundary to enable efficient and orderly stock clearance processing.

Clearance Procedures

Cattle must receive preliminary treatment supported by a completed declaration before being presented at a clearing facility.

Download the Cattle tick preliminary treatment declaration form at https://www.daff.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/59349/fdu1499-cattle-tick-preliminary-treatment-declaration.pdf

Animals found infested with ticks at time of inspection, are not permitted to move outside the infected zone. This includes all other animals in the consignment.

Stock that have received a clean inspection and treatment are permitted to be moved from a clearing facility into the free or control zones. The inspector or approved person will issue a certificate of inspection and/or treatment.

Stock must be removed from the infected zone within 24 hours of the inspection and treatment.

Clearing Facilities

Stock requiring clearance must be presented at one of these dips or inspection centres where a Biosecurity Queensland inspector or an approved person will inspect the stock, supervise required treatments and issue a certificate for movement out of the infected zone.

When being cleared, cattle are usually plunge-dipped while other stock may be sprayed. The chemicals used are registered for cattle tick control.

Bookings are essential at all clearing facilities with a minimum of 48 hours notice required. Clearing facilities are not permanently staffed and a failure to pre-book may result in the facility being unattended or delays in processing. Bookings are restricted to daylight hours. Operating hours at clearing facilities may be extended for scheduled events. Contact your preferred facility for details.

As a stock owner, it is your responsibility to be aware of stock movement requirements.

A list of approved clearing facilities can be found at https://www.daff.qld.gov.au/animal-industries/animal-health-and-diseases/animal-disease-control/cattle-tick/clearing-facilities

Additional Information

Additional information relating to cattle tick clearance, including alternate clearing facilities, may be obtained from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Call Centre on 13 25 23 or by visiting the website www.daff.qld.gov.au

Biosecurity Inspectors will be located on the grounds for the duration of Beef Australia 2015, and will be able to assist with enquiries. It is recommended that persons selling or buying stock during Beef Australia 2015 discuss their transactions with inspectors, who will be able to assist with cattle tick

procedures, including the issue of treatment declarations, and also ensuring that the NLIS database is updated.
