Exim policy

The duration of the policy from 1stsept.
2004 to 31stmarch 2009.
It takes an integrated view of the overalldevelopment of India's foreign trade
Aim of the policy is to double the globalmerchandise trade within the policy timeperiod of 5 year

OBJECTIVE OF EXIM POLICY 2004-09
To double percentage of share of global merchandise trade within the five
year .
To act as an effective instrument of economic growth by giving a trust to
employment generation
Facilitating development of India as a global hub for manufacturing , trading
and services
Facilitating technological and infrastructural up gradation of the Indian
Economy especially through import of capital goods and equipment
Upgrading infrastructure network related to entire foreign trade chain to
international standards

scheme Leather and Footwear: duty free import entitlement of
specified item shall be 5% of FOB value of exportsduring the preceding year

Implication on Handloom and Handicraft :- Establishment of Handicraft SEZ and Handicraft. Exportpromotion council would promote development ofhandloom and handicraft industry

-This is special thrust area in this policy- Duty free imports of other inputs would
give a further boost to this sector
Implications on Leather and Footwear Industry- Dutyfree imports as a specified percentage
of exports .
- Exemption on duty on equipment of effluent
treatment plants would be help promoting export
form this sector
