1 Prerequisites
Before proceeding with Map Capture application installation it is required that the following software is already installed.
1.1 Mo24rt.exe
Warning! Important this MUST be done before installing MapCapture and has to be installed as a System Administrator
This needs to be executed from the run prompt on the start menu with the following extensions.
This will install the ESRI MapObjects runtime application.
Copy the Mo24rt.exe to the c drive root folder. Then click the start button and select the run option. (this may not be
available if you are not logged in as a system administrator)
C:\Mo24rt.EXE /ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQX

Click ok and the installer will begin.

Once the installation has completed the box will disappear and the install has finished.

1.2 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components
Data Connectivity components for office 2007 are required if Map Capture is going to be used with eb Document
Manager. All required information related to this download can be found at Microsoft's Download Center
(http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=23734).
After downloading the appropriate installer please follow the installation instructions.
The installed drivers are used to generate the required files for use with eB Bulk loader.

2 Installation
This document is a guide to the installation of MapCapture and covers in detail all the steps in the installation process.
2.1 Installing Map-Capture
Double-click the MC4 setup icon and the installation will begin

After Installation the following directory structure will be created.

Now that we have closed MapCapture, the following menu structure will have been created under the MC4 folder.

We now need two files to allow MapCapture to work these are:
A Current PED file created from the main exor system using form MAI3863
A network Shape file typically extracted from Spatial Data Manager or Spatial Manager

3 PED file Generation
3.1 Product Options
The following product options must be configured before the PED file is created:
Option Description Example value
PED4CHRASS If set to Y, the 2 character MAI asset codes will be translated to the 4 character NM3 equivalents when creating the PEDIF file. If set to N the 2 character codes will be exported as normal

PEDDATEATR If set to Y, any date attributes (record type 12) will be exported with a type of ‘D’ and a length of 11 when creating the PEDIF file. If set to N the date attributes will be exported with a type of ‘S’ and a length of 7 as was previously the case before the introduction of this option

3.2 Asset Data Model Requirements
All asset types that are to have defects logged against them must have the SURVEY_DATE and SURVEY_TIME
attributes defined as shown below within Asset Metamodel – NM0410.
Note: These specific changes are only required from version 4.6.1.0 of map capture.
Warning! The following are mandatory for each field for the selected attribute:

Name Any unused DATE or VARCHAR2 field for the selected asset type
This field does not have to be a specific DATE attribute, if a VARCHAR2 attribute is used it must have a format of DATE applied in the ‘Format’ field and a date format mask must be defined in the subsequent ‘Format Mask’ field, e.g. DD-MON-YYYY.
Format DATE Must have a format of DATE.
View Attribute SURVEY_DATE SURVEY_DATE is the required value for this field

3.3 MAI3863 Ped file Creation
The PED file is a file that contains all the metadata from the main exor application. This is used to ensure that the data
collected by MapCapture is compatible with the main database and loading problems will be minimised.
Whenever you make a significant change to the setup of your exor system – create new network elements, add new asset
types, add new inspection types you should create a new PED file.
To create a PED file, follow these steps:
Log into exor as the main Highways owner and go to form MAI3863. This can be selected through fastpath.

After completed the mandatory fields, you may choose a road type or a road ID.
Restrict Inspector by AU will restrict the inspectors available to the user when selecting the inspectors within map
capture.
Click on the ‘running person’ icon in the top left of the form to run the PED file extract.
When the extract is running, you should click the ‘Spooled Output’ tab to ascertain the name of the new PED file.

The PED file, as extracted by the extract function, will be left on the database server. Should you need to transfer it to
your PC, use the ‘Download From Oracle Directory’ function. This can be found under the exor/directory management
folder on the launchpad

You should then copy the PED file to the ‘metadata’ folder under the MapCapture folder on each of your DCDs.

4 Getting a Network Shapefile
4.1 Network Shapefile using Spatial Manager
I will be using Spatial Manager for this process but other GIS systems can be used to generate the required shape file.

Having selected the required area click on the Display tab. Right-click on the Network Layer you wish to export goto
Data/export data.

This will now generate the required network files.
Note: For Mapcapture to work, you will require two key fields in the shape file these are AGENCY and LINKCODE
as one field and SECTION as another, for example:
Typical Example for RMMS type Network: 1234A354 P/12345
Agency Code of 1234 4 Characters
Linkcode of A354 P 6 Characters
Section Number 00045 5 Characters
These have to match the format of your main exor system.
These resulting fields in the shape file need to be:

5 Running MapCapture

You should now see the MapCapture icon on your desktop, double-click on the icon to start the application.

After clicking on the icon, you will see the screen below and flashing at the bottom you will see the edif file being read,
the screenshot below is reading the type 4 records.

Having read the edif file you may get a message telling you there were errors or warnings in the file.

If you see this message, a log file will have been created in the same metadata folder.
Having clicked the OK message, you will get the main Launch Window.
