Introducing SYLKA™ and Borderline Carpet Planning Services

SYLKA™

SYLKA™ carpets and rugs are made with NuSilk™, a luxury fibre system engineered to combine the delicacy and beauty of silk with extreme durability, at a fraction of the cost.

NuSilk™ is the only fibre system of its type that retains its beauty and delicacy after cleaning and delivers zero fibre loss and unlike other natural silk or faux silk products – including viscose and bamboo – SYLKA™ has a commercial grading, making it ideal for locations including hotels, restaurants and other hospitality venues and corporate buildings, as well as in luxury homes and yachts.

SYLKA™ collections (see Appendix 2) come in designer-friendly natural shades that will complement any living space and create the look, as well as the feel, of luxury. All standard colours are stocked at our London distribution centre and at our Georgia factory in the United States, enabling immediate dispatch to any worldwide destination, subject to availability.

We can also customise SYLKA™ carpets and rugs to any desired shade for minimum orders of as little as 20 square metres, with a small dyeing surcharge, with delivery in six to eight weeks from the date of order.

SYLKA™ is ideal as a close-fitted carpet but bespoke rugs can be made to any size, using leather, faux leather, linen or cotton bindings as a border for a unique product.


Key facts

• NuSilk™ fibre is processed through a unique spinneret, engineered to mimic the size and shape of natural silk for unrivalled visual and tactile appeal.

• Products made of NuSilk™ are delicate and luxurious to the touch, but the polymer from which NuSilk™ is derived shares Type 6, 6 Nylon 101 architecture, making it extremely durable in comparison to its natural fibre counterparts.

• NuSilk™ has a more compact, high tenacity molecular structure than natural and organic fibre options, resulting in a product that resists fibre loss due to abrasion and will not shed or pile, as is common in natural fibres.

• A specialised twisting process results in a finished product delivering high resilience, allowing increased resistance to pile crush or “walk out” common in floor coverings made of natural and organic fibres.

• NuSilk™ is colourfast. It may also be easily and successfully dyed in shades ranging from paper white to the darkest hues.

• NuSilk™ features superior weathering properties in comparison to natural and organic fibres. This includes better sunlight resistance as well as enhanced resistance to rapid oxidation and yellowing common in natural fibres.

• NuSilk™ is inherently highly resistant to insects and fungi as well as moulds, mildew, rot and many chemicals, which may permanently stain floor coverings made of natural and organic fibres.

• Floor coverings made of NuSilk™ fibre can be treated with advanced anti-soil/stain protectants, as well as flame retardants for use on aircraft and yachts.

• NuSilk™ fibre enables easy cleaning and maintenance, including spot cleaning that will not leave a water mark. Products made from NuSilk™ fibre can also be professionally steam cleaned as easily as any other conventional carpet, with outstanding results.


Borderline Carpet Planning Services

At Borderline Carpet Planning Services, quality is at the heart of everything we do, from the products and service we provide to the standard of our finished work.

Working only with interior designers, we supply and install SYLKA™ products and other carpets that we source ourselves, to ensure they meet our rigorous quality control checks.

Whatever the project requirements may be, we are happy to deliver samples to assist with selections and can arrange for carpets to be made to bespoke designs and colours, and to suit specific budgets.

We also supply custom edging or borders for our carpets, or can use your own binding fabric, if it is suitable, and can create bespoke rugs of any size and shape, drawing on a huge range of materials and trims.

From our London offices and warehouse, we work across the UK and around the world, providing carpet planning and fitting services for private houses, boardrooms, corporate headquarters, hotels, jets, yachts or anywhere a carpet may be required. Our expertise in this specialist area is recognised throughout the industry.

We understand the importance of working as part of a team, and our experience and efficiency enables us to meet the tightest of deadlines and most challenging specifications.

Our added value approach includes always arranging appointments for specific times and removing and disposing of old floor coverings, replacing furniture and leaving the property ready for immediate use.

Our quality standards

InstallationsQuality is crucial at all stages of our operations. We recommend that our carpets are measured and fitted by trained and experienced installers and that all SYLKA™ products should be fitted to British Standard BS 5325:2001, the Code of Practice for the Installation of Textile Floor Coverings.

We are always available to assist with any technical enquiries regarding SYLKA™ products to support high quality installations.

Cleaning and maintenanceAll SYLKA™ products have a heavy domestic/medium contract grading and provide comprehensive guidance on the correct techniques for regular maintenance, including vacuuming, spot cleaning and periodic maintenance to ensure our carpets and rugs retain their surface appearance, colour and cleanliness. We recommend that interim and period maintenance should only be carried out by a reputable, professional carpet cleaner and that customers check their client references and insurance details before employing them.

WarrantiesWe provide a one-year manufacturing defects warranty and in the event of a defect, we will provide replacement carpet, of equivalent quality, for the affected area at no charge, excluding installation and labour. We also provide a warranty that for a four-year period, when properly installed and maintained, and with certain other conditions, our product will retain at least 90 per cent of its pile.

If the carpet is found to have lost more than ten per cent of its surface pile due to abrasion, as established by us, we will either provide replacement carpet, of equivalent quality, for the affected area at no charge, excluding installation and labour, or repair the defective area.


Certifications and ratings

All our carpets and rugs comply with the following standards:

• they meet or exceed a commercial density rating of up to 1,000 foot traffics per day, making them suitable for heavy domestic or medium contract use

• they meet or exceed the flammability standard US ASTM E648-08 Critical Radiant Flux and British Standard BS 4790:1987 (Method for determination of the effects of a small source of ignition on textile floor coverings (hot metal nut method))

• for aircraft and superyacht installations requiring the Vertical Flammability Test (US Federal Aviation Regulation) FAR25.853a, we offer a Promethezyl™ flame-retardant finish

• SYLKA™ products are constructed to achieve low tog rating, making them ideally suited for installation involving underfloor heating

• they are treated with NuShield™ performance additive for advanced protection against soiling, stains and static electricity

• they are finished with NuBac™ natural rubber latex backing to promote improved tuft bind performance, ease of installation and handling and enhanced seaming.

SYLKA™ featured in exclusive Harrods window display

The SYLKA™ collection of carpets and rugs, developed using the innovative NuShield™ fibre system, has featured in an exclusive window display at the world famous London department store Harrods.

SYLKA™, which replicates the delicate aesthetic qualities of natural silk with outstanding durability and longevity, was harnessed by Sara Cosgrove, Head of Interior Design at The Studio, Harrods, for the display in February 2013, using SYLKA™ collections Opulence and Royale.
