Experimentation & Changes

Page 2: Experimentation & changes

Narrative and Script• The main change within my film is that of my

narrative and script. • Instead of the supposed Trevor being Reece it is

now Sean.

• I did this as I thought it would be more effective and comedic if Trevor turns out to be someone as harmless as Sean’s character.

Sean is the one mistaken for Trevor now.

Narrative and Script• There are also a number of smaller changes to the script.• I did this as I didn’t want the actors to feel restricted by it and wanted

them to say what felt natural to try and get a more realistic performance. Therefore we experimented with the lines in order to get the best take.

• I also wanted us to be able to take inspiration when we found it. An example of this is when Sean eats the kebab after he dropped it, it

wasn’t in the script but on the day we thought it would be funny.

Setting• I also changed the setting from a party down by the river

to a house party as it wasn’t possible to film by the river due to light levels and temperatures.

• It also appeals to a wider audience as most people have experienced a house party whereas people may have not experienced a river party if they live in an urban setting.

Setting• I also changed the location of the end scene from the

woods to a local park with streetlights. • I did this as the light levels were too low to film in the

woods even with strong lights so I had to choose an area with streetlights.

• The area still appears isolated and menacing so still

connotes what I wanted this set to.

Gag Reel• I didn’t plan to include a gag reel initially but

once I reviewed the footage and saw how funny the out takes were I decided I would put it in.

• It also conforms to the conventions of comedy films and helps to connote the fact it’s a comedy horror not just a horror.

Trevor• Within the script I wanted Trevor to be identified

by his wheezing breath but later changed this.

• I thought with all the sound effects such as the footsteps, heartbeat and ominous drones any more and it would have been detrimental to the film.

• Also the fact the protagonists get so scared by footsteps is more humorous.

Changed Roles• I also changed Deash’s and Abi’s roles around

having Deash play the role originally intended for Abi and vice versa.

• I did this as Deash didn’t feel comfortable with such a large role whereas Abi did which enabled me to get the best performance from both and keep the actors I wanted.

• Throughout the entire process of making this film I have experimented with all aspects of it, from locations, narrative, actors and scripts.

• This I feel has enabled me to get the best performances I could get out of my cast and create a more coherent and entertaining film.

• Each problem I faced I came up with solutions for and by experimenting I have tried to get the best footage I could.
