Eligibility

A citizen of Singapore can only renounce his Singapore citizenship if he or she is of or over the age of 21 years and

has acquired citizenship of another country.

Notes for completing the Renunciation of Singapore Citizenship application form

a) Please fill in the application form. The application form may need approximately 30 minutes to complete. b) Your name to be written on the form should follow the Singapore Identity Card or Singapore Birth Certificate (if

you were not issued with a Singapore Identity Card). c) To countersign next to any amendments if you have made on the form. Do not use correction fluid on the form. d) All the required documents must be submitted together with the completed application form. Incomplete documents

may result in non-acceptance of the application.

Statutory Declaration

The Statutory Declaration has to be signed and duly notarized by a Notary Public, Justice of Peace or Commissioner for Oaths (with his/her Official Seal/ Stamp affixed / Appointment letter) or Consular Officer of Singapore. Mode of submission

Application can be submitted by post to ICA, in-person at ICA Building Level 6 or via our Singapore Overseas Mission.

Documents to be submitted

a) Copy of your Singapore Birth Certificate OR Original Singapore Citizenship Certificate b) Original Singapore Identity Card. Thumbprint impression form duly notarized by a Commissioner for Oaths,

Notary Public or Justice of the Peace if you have lost your Singapore Identity Card or are holding the laminated Singapore Identity Card

c) Original Singapore Passport d) Certified true copy of your foreign citizenship certificate and passport. Such certification must be duly

notarized by a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace or Commissioner for Oaths (with his/her Official Seal/ Stamp affixed / Appointment letter) or Consular Officer of Singapore

e) Deed poll or religious certificate if there had been a change of name. If you have misplaced the original Singapore Identity Card / Singapore Passport / Singapore Citizenship Certificate,

you are required to execute a Statutory Declaration to declare the loss of the document(s).

Documents not printed in the English language must be officially translated into English. Translations done by the Embassy of the document-issuing country, or a local Notary Public are acceptable. A privately translated copy attested by the Embassy of the document-issuing country or notarized by a local Notary Public is also acceptable. Fees

A processing fee of S$35.00 (Singapore dollars) in the form of cheque, money order or bank draft drawn from any local bank in Singapore made payable to Commissioner ICA. Alternatively, you may request a representative in Singapore to pay the fee on your behalf at this Office. Please do not send cash by post. Payment at ICA building can be made

The ICA collects personal information to administer immigration and registration functions in Singapore. We may share

necessary data with other Government agencies (or non-Government entities which have been authorized to carry out

specific Government services) so as to process any applications you have made or to render you a service, so as to

EXPLANATORY NOTES RENUNCIATION OF SINGAPORE CITIZENSHIP

ARTICLE 128 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE

Dear Sir,

RENUNCIATION OF SINGAPORE CITIZENSHIP

1. National Service (NS) is vital to the defence and security of Singapore. Under the Enlistment Act, male Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents are liable for NS.

2. We would like to inform you that under Article 128(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore, the Government may withhold a person’s application for renunciation of Singapore citizenship if he is subjected to the Enlistment Act and has not discharged his NS liability.

3. Those who are allowed to renounce their Singapore citizenship without serving NS will face serious adverse consequences in their immediate or future applications to work, study or live in Singapore. They will not be granted Permanent Resident status or citizenship in the future.
