HAPPY EASTER FROM THE TARBORO PARKS & REC. DEPT.!!!!

EASTER FUN FACTS: - In the US, only 12 of the 50 states recognize Good Friday as a holiday.

- Peep peep… did you know Americans buy more than 700 million marshmal-

low Peeps during Easter? This makes Peeps the most popular non-chocolate Easter

candy.

- Americans consume more than 16 million jelly beans during this holiday. That is

enough jelly beans to circle the globe not once, not twice, but three times.

- Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ; it is the oldest Christian hol-

iday and one of the most important days of the year.

- The White House of tradition of the Easter Egg Roll started back in 1878, with

President Rutherford B. Hayes.

- 76% of people eat the ears on chocolate bunnies first.

- The most popular chocolate eggs are Cadbury Cream Eggs.

- Americans spend $1.9 billion on Easter candy. That’s the second biggest candy

holiday after Halloween.

- The white lily is the official flower of Easter. As they represent grace and purity,

many churches and homes have chosen to decorate with the white lily for the holi-

day. In fact, they’re commonly known best as “Easter lilies.”

Mission Statement:

To provide the older adult the opportunity to continue a productive and active life through nutrition, education, fitness and recreational activities.

St. Patrick is called a Christian missionary and the Apostle of Ireland.

In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day is a national holiday with banks, stores,

and businesses closing for the day.

Legend has it St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the concept of

the Holy Trinity, by showing an unbeliever the three-leafed plant with

one stalk.

Shamrocks are the national flower/emblem of Ireland.

Your odds of finding a four-leaf clover are about 1 in 10,000.

A tutor who taught on

the flute,

Tried to teach two

tooters to toot.

Said the two to the

tutor,

"Is it harder to toot, or

To tutor two tooters to

toot?" There was an old man

of Nantucket,

Who kept all his cash

in a bucket.

But his daughter

named Nan

Ran away with a man,

And as for the bucket,

Nan took it.
