Robot Activities
1. COMMAND A ROBOT/BLINDFOLD ACTIVITY Ever wonder what it’s like to program a robot? Now you can learn! You must be able to
direct and navigate properly in order to successfully manipulate a robot!
Set up a simple course in an open space and split up into pairs . In each pair, have one kid
wear a blindfold . Have the other give them directions around the course but please BE
CAREFUL! Make sure the blindfolded kid doesn’t walk into any trouble! Vision is one of
our most important senses, so it is VERY important that the person who is not blindfolded
provide excellent directions!
2. CHAT BOT ACTIVITY Find a website that has a chat bot activity and interact with the chat bot by asking questions
and giving commands . See how well you can communicate with the chat bot! Here are a few
site suggestions on where to find a chat bot:

Build an Electrical CircuitEver wonder how a robot performs its functions? Robots and the field of robotics use many different types of circuitry . Here are some instructions on how to build a simple circuit . A simple circuit contains a power source (battery), a resistor (light bulb) and a switch that are connected together in a series . The wires will connect the battery to the switch, the switch to the light bulb and the light bulb back to the other end of the battery!
Please have your parent supervise and help you and remember to be careful!
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Adult Supervision
Base to mount the circuit (preferably wooden)
(2) 1 .2V Light Bulbs
1 lamp holder
Size D Battery
1 Battery holder
1 Simple Switch
Small mounting screws (used for the switch and the lamp holder)
Insulated solid copper wire
INSTRUCTIONS:
1 . Mount the components (battery holder, switch, light bulb) to the wooden base board using small mounting screws .
2 . Loosen the contact screws on the battery holder so you can easily connect the wires .
3 . Cut (3) pieces of wire into 7”, 5” and 4” pieces .
4 . Make a cut in the insulation of the wire and pull the insulation out about ½” of each of the ends of the wire .
5 . Connect the 7” piece of wire to the battery and to one of the contact screws on the lamp holder .
6 . Connect the 5” piece of wire to the other contact screw and to one of the screws on the switch .
7 . Connect the 4” piece of wire to the remaining screw on the switch to the remaining clip of the battery holder .
TEST YOUR CIRCUIT:
1 . Insert the battery and screw the light bulb into the lamp holder .
2 . Close the switch . Voila!
3 . If the light bulb does not light up, check all the contacts again .

Build Your Own Robot ArmChallenge yourself (or your team!) To build your own robot arm with simple materials. Once your robot arm is constructed, try to pick up a plastic cup or another lightweight object from 1’ away. Lift the object at least 8” into the air and carefully set it down.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Wire
Cardboard
Clothes ins
Ice Cream Sticks
Rubberbands
Binder Clips
Paper Clips
Short Pencils
Tape
Paper Fasteners
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. If working in a team, discuss brainstorm ideas to successfully complete this challenge.
2. Draw a sketch of your solution.
3. Build a model of your design with the materials listed above.
4. Test your model.
EVALUATION:
1. Was your design successful?
2. What was the best feature of your design?
3. What could you have improved?
4. What other materials could have improved your design?

Having a robot is so much fun! Think of a problem that a robot can solve and use the prompts below to design and describe your own robot:
What is the color and size of your robot? Describe the texture of your robot
(how it feels).
How does your robot sound? Can it talk? Does it beep?
