EXPLORING JAIPUR ON A BUDGET

Photos Echoing with centuries-old tales of valour, there's no dearth of historic places to visit in Jaipur on a budget. A popular getaway from Delhi, the planned city of Jaipur was the political centre of a princely state in pre-independence India, and is now the capital of Rajasthan. Be it a cluster of majestic temples amidst the Aravallis or palatial forts that once protected the city boundaries, the pink city is home to a range of accessible heritage sites and grand monuments. Here's your guide to exploring the city, while spending very little money.

Galtaji

Venture out 10 km on the eastern side of Jaipur towards the Aravalli Hills, and you’ll find yourself amidst majestic temples and natural water springs.

Royal Gaitor

A collection of mausoleums of Jaipur’s royal family, the Royal Gaitor is located below Nahargarh Fort and is only a short drive away from the city centre.

Birla Mandir

Surrounded by lush-green gardens and made entirely of marble, the Birla Mandir (also called the Laxmi Narayan Temple) is one of the most stunning temples in the pink city.

Nahargarh Fort

Reminiscent of Jaipur’s royal past, the 18th-century Nahargarh Fort once formed a strong defence for the city of Jaipur.

Hawa Mahal

The city’s most striking landmark is famous for its pink latticed windows and balconies which offer panoramic views of the city below.

Albert Hall

Built in 1876 to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales, this colonial museum was modelled on London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.

Jantar Mantar

This astronomical observatory, like its counterpart in New Delhi, was built by Jai Singh II in the 18th century. It is the largest and the best preserved of the five he built across the country.
