• Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
• The word bewitched in the Greek is Baskaino primarily to slander, to prate about anyone, to bring evil on a person by feigned praise, or
misled by an evil eye, and so to charm, bewitch as in Gal 3:1

• Begun Greek “Enarchomai” literally to begin in • Spirit Greek “Pneuma” “Spirit and Ghost are renderings of Pneuma. • Perfect Greek “Epiteleo” to bring through to the end and is used in
the middle voice in Gal 3:3 hence are ye mow perfected continuous present tense indicating literally are you perfecting yourselves.

• Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
• It soon becomes clear that Paul’s questioning to those Galatians who have moved away from the true gospel of Salvation by faith and not of works unto a false Gospel is deep searching. He stirs up their minds by asking heart searching questions often Cushing the blows by answering his own question with a question. All the time he is leading them back into the truth. Paul’s teaching style is not shape up or ship out but he lovingly leaders them back into the church.

• Galatians 3:4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if
it be yet in vain.
• The word suffered in the Greek is “Pascho” and is translated in modern versions of the bible as “experienced”
• The word Vain in the Greek is “Eike” denotes without cause, to no purpose

• This is a warning question to all believers if they receive Full bible salvation and change to some false teaching their experience of God’s blessing becomes with out course, nothing of worth to this person. Their standing with God will also change from blessing to one of wrath

provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you?
• Hear Paul’s question to the Galatians is very clear the correct response to the gospel message is one of faith.

• He was faithful in the sense of being full of faith his justification is available also to all nations. This is their
promised blessing.

• Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
• Faith brings blessing but the law produces a curse because of the requirement that one must continue to meet its demands faithfully Deut 27.6.

• Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
• Here is the Scripture that God made real to Martin Luther it was the revelation of “Justification by faith” that inspired Luther to take his courageous stand which resulted in the reformation.
• It is evident that no man can ever be justified by the law If any man could save himself by his own good works then Calvary was the greatest blunder of all times.

• Galatians 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man
that doeth them shall live in them.
• This verse seems to have a mirror reflection in Leviticus 18:5 Ye shall therefore keep my statues and my judgments which if a man do shall he live in them I am The Lord.
• In Contrast to the person living under the law The Christian however under the Gospel receives life from God through faith, then begins to do the will of God.

• Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written,
Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
• The inflexibility of the law’s demands is clearly seen in the fact that when Jesus took the place of the lawbreaker though he himself was perfectly holy he had to endure exactly the same penalty as any other who came under
the curse of the law.

• Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
• The circumstance that Jesus died by hanging on the tree of Calvary emphasised the element of the curse in fulfilment of Deut 21:23. His body shall not remain all night upon the tree but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day (for he that hanged is accursed of God) that thy land be not defiled which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance

• Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might
receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
• Paul continues to explain the wonderful truth that the work at Calvary was not just descendants of Abraham but was also for the Gentiles they to could receive the
same promise of the spirit (Holy Ghost) though faith.
Though it be but a man's covenantThough it be but a man's covenant
• Galatians 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
• The immutability of God’s arrangements should be beyond debate. Even in human arrangements once confirmed a party to an agreement cannot by himself set it aside as no longer binding nor can he add to its provision for example a will.
Abraham and his seedAbraham and his seed
• Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many;
but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
• To Abraham and his offspring were the promises made. Some of his descendants were given to him other than by natural means So that through Abraham Messiah might come. Since the promises are secured in Christ only those people who are in Christ can receive them by faith.

• Galatians 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that
it should make the promise of none effect.
• The promise to Abraham has priority over the law since it came 430 years earlier the law could not possibly make void the previous arrangements that God had made and confirmed to Abraham.

• Galatians 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by
promise.
• It is an indisputable fact that God gave the inheritance to Abraham by promise nothing can change this basic truth.
Wherefore then serveth the law?Wherefore then serveth the law?
• Galatians 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was
ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
• The law was to run a certain course fulfilling its mission in preparing the way for the seed The Seed is Jesus Christ.
• For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness Romans 10:4
God is OneGod is One
• Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
• This is a wonderful oneness truth Paul said “God is One”
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear O Israel The Lord our God is one Lord.
I Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men the man Christ Jesus.

Is the law thenIs the law then
• Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have
been by the law.
• Paul goes onto explain if a law could be made to give life then righteousness would have been by the Law but it just was not possible.
• Instead Life has to come by promise.

• Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that
believe.
• The Amplified bible Gal 3:22 But the Scriptures [picture all mankind as sinners] shut up and imprisoned by sin, so that [the inheritance, blessing] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him].
• The Amplified bible clearly brings out the rich meaning found in this verse. And assists the Bible student in gleaning a clearer understanding of Paul message.

• Galatians 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law,
shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
• Again the Amplified bible renders the verse thus Gal 3: 22 But the Scriptures [picture all mankind as sinners] shut up and imprisoned by sin, so that [the inheritance, blessing] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him].
• And reveal the rich meaning behind this verse.

• Galatians 3:24-25. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
• 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
• Jesus did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it the law did not fail but man failed under the law the law is still as just as ever condemning the sinner

• Its important to understand why the law was given in the first place since the fall of Adam man was a sinner the law did not change this but it did permit man to know that he was a sinner “ for by the law is the knowledge of sin” Romans 3:20

• Before man could be saved he had to be condemned and realise his need of salvation Jesus did not come to condemn for the law had already done that John 3:17

• After giving to Moses the moral law God added the ceremonial law which consisted of types all pointing to Christ the law our schoolmaster could not save but did reveal the need for salvation and pointed forward to One who could save.

• Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
• Gentiles as well as Jews are welcomed into the family of God by faith in Christ Jesus hence they find there right full place in the sight of God.
