Introduction
Expo aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development of the world economy, culture, science and technology, to allowexhibitors to publicize and display their achievements and improveinternational relationships. Accordingly, the World Expo with its 150-year history is regarded as the Olympic Games of the economy,science and technology.
Expo 2010 opened May 1 and runs for 6 month to October inShanghai, China. Having dedicated an area of 5.28 sq km at theheart of the city to exhibitions, events under the Expo theme“Better City, Better Life”, Shanghai hopes to build a ‘powerful andlasting pilot example of sustainable and harmonious urban living’.
The organizers of Shanghai 2010 are anticipating some 70 millionvisitors and 200 participating countries.
Better City, Better Life
At the invitation of the Peoples Republic of China PRC, Fourteen (14)Member States and the Caribbean Community Secretariat CARISECare participating in Expo 2010; Antigua, Belize, Bahamas,Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica,Suriname, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Trinidad &Tobago .
CARICOM DAY A major event for the region is CARICOM Day July 17 th . This involvesa showcase of cultural activities from the region with the presenceof several high level delegates from member states and globalleaders.
JAMAICA’s Participation Objectives
1. JAMPRO Expo 2010 Objectives• Promote Jamaica as a viable investment destination to
Chinese and international investors. (Target sectors: Agro-industry, manufacturing, ICT, services)
• Promote niche high value low volume Jamaican exports• Position Jamaica as a gateway to the Caribbean & Americas• To showcase Jamaican culture and promote the vibrancy and
viability of Brand Jamaica as a commodity to the world• To gain best practice insight into urban development to guide
future investment promotion goals and activities

• Increased awareness in China and the rest of World of Brand Jamaica
• Visibility for select Jamaican exports (high end lifestyleproducts) in China and the rest of the world with a view toestablishing new opportunities for exporters in China and theworld
• Networking opportunities for Jamaican business interestsseeking investors, partners,
• Enhanced awareness of Jamaica as a multifaceted touristdestination
The sectors of focus are:• Manufacturing• Agriculture/ Agro-processing• Services (which includes logistics capitalizing on Jamaica’s
strategic geographic positioning)• Alternative Energy• Real Estate development in terms of construction of
technology parks, attractions, boutique hotels and othermixed use developments
Specific opportunity packages have been developed from each of the target sectors with a view to making compelling presentationsto pre-selected Chinese companies.
Promotion activities include:• Business seminars with high level presentations on
investment opportunities• Hosting targeted CEO’s and industry leaders at cultural andentertainment events
• Products from participating exporter with an interest inpenetrating the Asian markets.
4.1. Export Promotion
Expo activities include• Sponsorship packages for Jamaican brands being assisted
with booth and communication expenses• Product sampling of various export items• Commercial activities/ sale of Jamaican goods, paraphernalia
and craft items
JAMAICA will host a trade and investment seminar, exhibition
and B2B meetings on July 16 and again on August 6 th the
country's Independence to be staged in Shanghai, CHINA.

The focus will be on 5 core sectors of national interest
including Energy, ICT, Construction, Agri-business and
Tourism.
Jamaica’s Minister for Industry & Commerce, Karl Samuda will
lead a mission including businesses to Shanghai to introduce
investment opportunities in Jamaica and enhance existing
trading activities.
