English vs. Spanish
• In English, when we introduce, we say:
• I would like to introduce you to someone.
• In Spanish, it is opposite, as introduce by saying:
– I would like to introduce someone to you.
![Page 3: Expresiones Lección 1 Presentaciones con el verbo “presentarle”](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051419/5665b4e21a28abb57c9472a2/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Paso a paso (Step by step)
• In order to better understand introductions in Spanish, we will build up to it step by step.
![Page 4: Expresiones Lección 1 Presentaciones con el verbo “presentarle”](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051419/5665b4e21a28abb57c9472a2/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Presentarle = To introduce to someone
FIRST STEP
• When we want to express “I would like to introduce”, in Spanish we use either the expression: presento or quiero presentar.
![Page 5: Expresiones Lección 1 Presentaciones con el verbo “presentarle”](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051419/5665b4e21a28abb57c9472a2/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
¿Te, Le, or Les?
SECOND STEP
Before the verb “presento” or attached to “presentar” we have to choose an indirect object pronoun:– Te (to you) When speaking to one friend– Le (to you) When speaking politely to one person– Les (to you all) When speaking to more than one person
* Note: Te, Le, Les refer to whom you are directly speaking. That is to say, the person to whom the introduction is being made.
![Page 6: Expresiones Lección 1 Presentaciones con el verbo “presentarle”](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051419/5665b4e21a28abb57c9472a2/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
THIRD STEP
• Te presento/Quiero presentarte = I would like to introduce to you (friendly, one person)
• Le presento/Quiero presentarle = I would like to introduce to you (polite, one person)
• Les presento/Quiero presentarles = I would like to introduce to you (more than one person)
![Page 7: Expresiones Lección 1 Presentaciones con el verbo “presentarle”](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022051419/5665b4e21a28abb57c9472a2/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
FOURTH STEP
• After the verb “presento” or the expression “quiero presentar” we state the person or persons being introduced. Before each person’s name, we must use the word “a.”
• The preposition “a” usually means “to” or “at.”
• However, when introducing, it has no meaning
at all, but must be included.
