FALL 2017 SOUTHBOUND Project Overview The project will entail I-680 freeway widening work in the southbound direction between North Main Street in Walnut Creek to just South of Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek to accommodate the completion of the HOV/carpool lane, and the conversion of eight miles of an existing southbound HOV/Carpool lane to an express lane between Marina Boulevard in Martinez and North Main Street in Walnut Creek. Prior to construction, tree removal must take place in order to accommodate freeway widening work. When construction is complete, there will be 24 miles of EXPRESS LANE PROJECT 680 continuous southbound express lanes between the Benicia Bridge and the Alameda County line in San Ramon. CHOICES. Motorists traveling in the southbound direction on I-680 in Contra Costa County will have a choice to carpool for free or pay for a more reliable trip when it really matters. TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES. Carpooling and vanpooling will be easier than ever. The project will cost approximately $110 million, including planning, design, utilities, construction and installation of an express lane toll system. The construction work will include: Freeway widening in the southbound direction between North Main Street and just South of Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek Installation of lighting and tolling equipment (electronic toll tag readers) Signage (static and dynamic) and sign structures Re-striping and a new lane Upgrading CHP enforcement facilities In early Spring of 2018, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and project partners will begin construction on 11 miles of express lanes on southbound I-680 from Marina Vista Avenue in Martinez to Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek. Express lanes are converted carpool lanes that provide travel choices for the motoring public, improving mobility and freeway operations. They remain toll-free to carpoolers and other eligible vehicles and are available to solo drivers for a fee. What can Project Neighbors expect during Preconstruction? Prior to the beginning of construction, project neighbors along South Main Street between the I-680 Southbound South Main Street On- Ramp and Rudgear Road On-Ramp in Walnut Creek and between Castle Hill Road in Walnut Creek and Stonecastle Drive in Alamo should expect utility relocation and tree removal work in the area immediately adjacent to the I-680 southbound lanes. What can Project Neighbors expect during Construction? CCTA has been working closely with the City of Walnut Creek to minimize the duration and extent of impacts to local communities. Community members can expect the following: Dust, aesthetic impacts, and construction-related noises related to the removal and replacement of a retaining wall and soundwall in Walnut Creek along I-680 southbound from the South Main Street On/Off-Ramp to Castle Hill Road and in Alamo from Rudgear Road to three quarters of a mile south. the soundwall. In order to accommodate work on other sections of the project, it is anticipated that the soundwall will remain temporarily down for approximately one year. South Main Street On-Ramp, which is anticipated to last for two weeks. During this period, detours will occur on local Walnut Creek surface streets, including South Main Street/Danville Road. On-site signage will be posted. Sidewalk construction along the west side of South Main Street from the South Main Street On/Off-Ramp to Sunny Court. Construction will occur primarily during the day, with some night and weekend work in order to minimize impacts for residents and the traveling public. Thank you in advance for your patience. EXPRESS LANE PROJECT 680 continuous southbound express lanes between the Benicia Bridge and the Alameda County line in San Ramon.

The construction work will include:

• Freeway widening in the southbound direction between North Main Street and just South of Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek

• Installation of lighting and tolling equipment (electronic toll tag readers)

• Signage (static and dynamic) and sign structures

• Re-striping and a new lane

• Upgrading CHP enforcement facilities

In early Spring of 2018, the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and project partners will begin construction on 11 miles of express lanes on southbound I-680 from Marina Vista Avenue in Martinez to Rudgear Road in Walnut Creek.

Express lanes are converted carpool lanes that provide travel choices for the motoring public, improving mobility and freeway operations. They remain toll-free to carpoolers and other eligible vehicles and are available to solo drivers for a fee.

What can Project Neighbors expect during Preconstruction?

Prior to the beginning of construction, project neighbors along South Main Street between the I-680 Southbound South Main Street On-Ramp and Rudgear Road On-Ramp in Walnut Creek and between Castle Hill Road in Walnut Creek and Stonecastle Drive in Alamo should expect utility relocation and tree removal work in the area immediately adjacent to the I-680 southbound lanes.

What can Project Neighbors expect during Construction?

CCTA has been working closely with the City of Walnut Creek to minimize the duration and extent of impacts to local communities. Community members can expect the following:

• Dust, aesthetic impacts, and construction-related noises related to the removal and replacement of a retaining wall and soundwall in Walnut Creek along I-680 southbound from the South Main Street On/Off-Ramp to Castle Hill Road and in Alamo from Rudgear Road to three quarters of a mile south.

• the soundwall. In order to accommodate work on other sections of the project, it is anticipated that the soundwall will remain temporarily down for approximately one year.

• South Main Street On-Ramp, which is anticipated to last for two weeks. During this period, detours will occur on local Walnut Creek surface streets, including South Main Street/Danville Road. On-site signage will be posted.

• Sidewalk construction along the west side of South Main Street from the South Main Street On/Off-Ramp to Sunny Court.

• Construction will occur primarily during the day, with some night and weekend work in order to minimize impacts for residents and the traveling public. Thank you in advance for your patience.
