Task Card Activity!!

Simplifying Algebraic Expressions Task Card Activity

Use for additional practice with simplifying expressions.

The problems include the distributive property and variables with

exponents.

Directions:

1. Copy and cut out the task cards

2. Place the cards in random order on desks and workspaces around the room.

3. Give each student a copy of the Simplifying Expressions

Worksheet.

4. Students move around the room, copying the expression

then simplifying it. It’s important that they match the

number on the card to the space on the answer sheet.

Helpful Hints (I tell students this before we begin):

• Students do NOT need to go in any order. They should sit

wherever there is an empty desk.

• One student per task card at a time.

• It is not a race – depending how much time is given, not all students will finish all the cards.

• I like to put the more difficult problems in the same area. I’ll

tell students this, so that the ones who need to be challenged could head over there. Struggling students can start with

the easier problems.
