Exquisite Corpse Shape Robot Animals

Directions:For this assignment you will draw one robot or animal head, one robot or animal body and one robot or animal waist and legs. These robot or animal sections will be created by overlapping shapes using construc-tion paper. Your job is to draw, cut, and layer shapes to make the di�erent parts of your creature.

What is an Exquisite Corpse? An Exquisite Corpse is an image drawn by three di�erent artists that have not seen each other’s ideas. Each artist draws a separate part of the body and then the separate parts are assembled to create a weird creature.For this assignment each person is required to create a head, a body and legs. When everyone is done we will mix them up to create awesome creatures.

Examples of Exquisite Corpse art

Vocabulary:Shape - A closed area of space. A Shape can not have an opening in it, or else it is a line.

There are two types of shapes

Organic Shapes - found in nature, such as leaves, clouds, rocks, sticks, cats, etc.

Geometric Shapes - that typically have straight sides or shapes that were draw with a tool such as a ruler or a compass such as squares, triangles, circles, rectangles etc.

Step 1:Take a look at some ideas on the next page to help you get ideas for your robot / animal parts.

Step 2:Begin by cutting a background in the basic shape that will be your creature’s head.

Step 3:Layer your shapes to create the di�erent parts. For example, you can cut a red circle for the eyes and layer a white rectangle to go inside.

Step 4:Have a variety of di�erent colors shapes. Organic and Geometric.

Step 5: After all the parts are turned in we will create a whole class set of new creatures.
