2021 AUGUST ISSUE NEWSLETTER NO 0001 NEWSLETTER NO 146 2021 SEPTEMBER ISSUE LYCEUM RATNAPURA Have you ever wondered how it is that some people seem to have enough time to do everything that they want to, whereas others are always rushing from task to task, and never seem to finish anything? Is it just that the former have less to do? No, it’s much more likely that they are using their time more effectively and practicing good time management skills. Time management is not very difficult as a concept, but it’s surprisingly hard to do in practice. It requires the investment of a little time upfront to priorities and organise yourself. But once done, you will find that with minor adjustments, your day, and indeed your week and month, fall into place in an orderly fashion, with time for everything you need to do. The Key to good time management is, understanding the difference between urgent and important tasks. ‘Urgent’ tasks demand your immediate attention, but whether you actually give them that attention may or may not matter. 'Important' tasks matter, and not doing them may have serious consequences for you or others. For some of us, clutter can be a real distraction. Tidying up can improve both self-esteem and motivation. You will also find it easier to focus more, if your study area is tidy. If you have a system where every notice or task is put up on a notice board, then take off anything that doesn’t need action and/or has been dealt with! That way, you’ll be able to see at a glance what needs doing, and you'll be less likely to miss anything. Create three piles: Keep, Give Away, and Throw Away. Keep, if you need to keep it for your records, or do something with it. If it needs action, add it to your task list. Give away, if you don’t want it, but someone else might be able to use it, and/or it is work that can and should be delegated. Throw away (or recycle) things that have no value to you or anyone else. Take a moment to pause and get your life and priorities into perspective, and you may find that the view changes quite substantially! 01 PLEASE NOTE THAT IMPORTANT NOTICES ARE CARRIED IN EVERY NEWSLETTER. MESSAGE FROM THE LYCEUM SCHOOL BOARD

Dear Grades 9 & 10 Cambridge Students,

OL BIOLOGY QUICK REVISION GUIDE (256 pages) –

will be available soon for sale at the school bookshop

This book has been compiled by Ms. Malathi Fernando,

condensing years of study in to a quick revision guide,

to assist students to find informaon quickly when

examinaons are close. Ms. Fernando has been teaching for over 50 years, of

which 21 have been at Lyceum, as its Cambridge

Ordinary Level teacher and also as an Academic

Consultant. During that period she has produced high

performers at the Sri Lanka Naonal AL examinaons

as well as world award winners at the Cambridge

Internaonal and Edexcel OL Examinaons, on several

occasions. Before taking up her appointment at

Lyceum Internaonal School, she had been an

Advanced Level Botany teacher at Royal College,

Colombo and, also at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo.Ms. Malathi’s idea was to create a book where

students could revert to the content for clarity. She

understood the difficules that students would

encounter in preparing for forthcoming examinaons

in the middle of a pandemic. They were unable to go

through regular classroom acvies where they would

have got a chance to solve their problems onetoone

with teachers. This book would help to boost their

confidence and provide comfort to help them face the

examinaon. We also hope that this book will help you to understand

the world of Biology in an enjoyable way. Like all other

organisms you are also part of this world perhaps, one

day, you will be working to help others understand it

beer.

Dear Parents,

NEW BOOK FOR GR. 2 BUDDHISM (2021/2022)

Please note that "Buddhist Way of Life - Book 2" is a new edion and its available in our bookshops for you to purchase.
