Callen recently completed a full exterior remodel on this charming home.The home had been in the family for multiple generations, being built by the homeowner’s grandparents in the 1930’s. Built on a beautiful lakefront lot in Wind Lake, the current owners decided it was time to completely refurbish the exterior with maintenance-free materials.This gave Callen an opportunity to install almost every category of exterior product we offer, including:

Roofing: GAF Timberline HD shingles in charcoal with a Golden Pledge extended warranty on the sloped roof and a rubber membrane roof over the second floor porch.

Gutters: 5” seamless aluminum gutters in white, with 4” white downspouts, and our exclusive Gutter Topper gutter protection system in charcoal to keep the gutters free of leaves and debris.

Ventilation: GAF Fascia Flow intake ventilation and GAF Cobra Snow Country ridge vents to keep the attic cool and overcome the unique challenges of small soffits and sloped ceilings.

Insulation: All of the exterior wall sheathing was removed down to the wall studs, allowing for expanding spray-foam insulation to be sprayed into the wall cavity from the exterior.This also allowed for an upgrade to the second floor electrical at the same time.

Soffit & Fascia: Mastic maintenance-free custom bent aluminum fascia and T4” white soffit panels covering all of the old wood.

Windows: Infinity from Marvin Fiberglass Replacement Windows,white on the exterior and exclusive Everwood stainable interior, to replace the main windows of the home and glass block windows in the basement and first floor bathroom openings.

Siding: Mill Run foam-backed insulated siding on the bottom half of the house and Crane Portsmouth Shake on the top half, both in Regatta. All corners, window trim,and frieze boards were done in white vinyl or aluminum.

Entry Doors: Waudena Millwork insulated steel entry doors on the front, rear, and porch. All doors were painted white on the exterior and stained in Weathered Oak on the interior.

Storm Doors: ProVia aluminum storm doors on the front,rear, and porch. All doors have self-storing glass

and screens, and are Snow Mist to match the white trim on the house.

Railings: Front and rear railings are Azek maintenance-free composite railing systems.

In addition to the many products listed here, there were several challenges to overcome during the

renovation, including:

• Removing the original asbestos siding, which was done by one of Callen’s trade partners.

• Reframing the entire roof line due to sagging undersized rafters.

• Removing an old breezeway that was built between the house and the garage.

• Re-drywalling the entire ceiling in the bedroom as part of the rafter replacement and to fix old cracks in the walls.

• Fill in eroded cement blocks in the foundation walls.

• Upgrading the electrical service and rewiring the entire second floor while the walls were open.

Paulette Sodemann is a Senior Designer for Callen. Currently living in Franklin, the Caledonia, Wisconsin native has more than 14 years experience in the home improvement and remodeling industry, the last nine with Callen.

The SEN Certified designer earned an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design from Milwaukee Area Technical College, and she has completed continuing education through the National Kitchen & Bath Association and other organizations. Her studies have included building

construction, kitchen and bathroom planning, interior lighting color theory, residential green, designing with color, and kitchen and bath ventilation.

At Callen, Paulette is with the client from the initial meeting to project completion. She is responsible for putting the job together in terms of what needs to be done - measuring and space planning, from structural to mechanicals, drawings, pricing, and material selection. “I love the process Callen has put in place for our clients.”

Special project involvement includes volunteering her time and skills with Refashion for Life and helping with interior product selections.

Away from the office, Paulette love’s family time with her husband Eric, three-year old daughter Jovie, and 10-month old son Easton. She enjoys playing volleyball, watching the Brewers and Packers on TV or going to sporting events, attending concerts, and doing pretty much anything outdoors.
