1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose

The purpose with this document is to describe the functions and requirements for an outdoor fan.

This document states the requirements for an axial DC Fan that provides cooling air for an external application. The design of the Fan is based on requirements from the RBS system requirements.

The functional, technical and environmental requirements are specified.

The document also covers references to requirements for the Fans packaging.

1.2 Readers

• Climate unit designers • Radio base station designers • Subsystem designers • Subsystem testers • Purchasers • External suppliers of the product

1.3 Product Numbers

The product number of the complete Fan shall be BKV 301 216/130

The Fan is a physical product with R-state.

1.4 Requirement tag numbers

Each requirement in this document is separately tagged and could be referred to without having to copy the whole text.

Example:

FAN_XXX:A_01 FAN_ Origin of the requirement XXX: Heading, function or topic of the requirement A_ Released in Revision 01 Number of the requirement

Some requirements are followed by a “Traces from /Doc Ref/ XYZ Requirement type Prefix followed by an index”, e.g. Traces from /General HW/ SRR77. The /Doc Ref/ is reference to Ericsson’s internal system documents that are found in the references. The SSR tag is a reference to requirements within that document. This nomenclature is not intended to be used by the supplier, the supplier shall always refer to the FAN_XXX:Rev_# type tag, e.g. FAN_FU:A_01.

2 Fan Functions In this paragraph requirements are specified for functions that are vital for the Fan to operate and provide cooling air to the RBS.

The fan shall be designed to always be in operating and strive to adapt/respond to the speed control signal. Any faulty condition within the fan must not lead to a controlled halt in operation in order to avoid physical damage to the fan, with the following exemptions:

- Temperatures significantly beyond the range for Safe Function

- Voltages significantly beyond the range for normal voltages

- Product safety hazards (overheat etc)

The fan’s functionality in the RBS is considered to be critical. The fan is a replaceable wear part and its continuous function is of higher priority than actively avoiding physical damage due to wear-out and aging.

2.1 Product Description

This Fan shall primarily provide outdoor air to the external parts of an RBS. Other applications may apply. The fan has speed setting via a PWM signal and sends alarm at abnormally low speed and Fan fault.

2.5 Signals

2.5.1 Fan RPM control signal

RPM setting shall be carried out via a PWM signal that is user generated. The control signal is generated from an open collector interface (user side). The RPM control pin shall have required voltage Vout-high when not driven (High state).

FAN_PWM:J_01 Control input shall have a pull up resistor to the internal reference voltage (Fan side).

FAN_PWM:J_02 The control signal input interface shall be able to meet a PWM signal with a frequency of 2 kHz.

FAN_PWM:M_03 The voltage and current levels shall be:

Low state: 0<Vout-low < 0.5V Ilow = 0.5 to 2.0 mA. High state: 0<Ihigh < 75 μA Vout-high = 3.0 to 6.0 V

Note 1: Vout is the voltage between pin 4 (RPM Control) and pin 3 (-48 VDC) in the fan connecter. When the fan I simulated with a 4.7 kΩ pull-up resistor (Rinternal in Figure 3) at the open collector/drain connection point the characteristics of the user generated PWM signal will be: Trisetime and Tf alltime is < 10 μs. The pull-up resistor is connected to a test voltage 5 V above pin 3 (-48 VDC). Duty cycle 50 %.

Note 2: The electrical PWM interface requirements needs to be fulfilled for all fan fault conditions for proper fault detection by the connecting interface. This is because the combination of fault- and PWM-signal is used to differentiate between alarms (fan connected and fan fault).

Methods for test result evaluation

There are three different ways for a black-box unit supplier to achieve compliance (Pass) to the E3.5 requirement as specified in 11/1056-HRB 105 600, revision C and D.

Note: Additional compliance requirements for E3.5 may apply to certain products (if specified so in the units’ requirement specification). How to comply with such additional compliance criteria are not accounted for here.

1. Demonstrate that the test generator is able to generate the defined voltage waveform at open-circuit. Attach the EUT and regulate the source impedance of the generator (can be done by connecting a small resistor in series with the generator). Measure the over- and under voltage energy to the EUT during the 0.5 ms that the voltage is changed, both from 54.5 to -100V and from 54.5 to and +100V respectively. If the pulse energy is > 1.8 Ws, the EUT is considered compliant. If it is not, gradually reduce the generator impedance towards zero until the pulse energy to the EUT is > 1.8 Ws. If the EUT can not absorb the desired pulse energy; move on to step 2. The EUT will in many cases not be exposed to the defined open circuit voltage waveform, but this is perfectly OK.

2. Expose the EUT to the defined open-circuit voltage waveform (no need for energy measurements/calculations). If the required waveform and its specified slew rates are achieved, the test method is considered sufficient.

3. If both test methods above do fail: Based on oscilloscope screen dumps; present the calculated over and under voltage pulse energy to the EUT and the achieved slew rates. The verification results can possibly be considered OK by Ericsson. If so, the verification report will be allowed to state the result as Pass (compliant), though with an added remark stating achieved energy and slew rate

18 Terminology

EMC The ability of an equipment or system to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without introducing intolerable electromagnetic disturbances to anything in that environment

Exceptional / Safe function Full functionality Environmental stress above the limits for normal operation where a unit shall continue to function during the stress, but performance or capacity may be reduced. Any changes of performance / capacity shall be approved by system responsible. Only alarms related to the reduction of performance and capacity are allowed here. The unit shall under no circumstances behave illegally. Reduction of performance or capacity shall be approved by RBS system product owners and documented as typical value. When the environmental stress has restored to normal conditions, performance / capacity as specified shall automatically be achieved.

Inrush Current The peak instantaneous input current drawn by the power supply at switch on.

Non destruction - Environmental

Reduced functionality and performance Environmental stress above the limits for normal function during which no function is guaranteed and performance may degrade in an unspecified manner. The fan must in all situations fulfill legal requirements and not become hazardous to people. When the environmental stress has dropped to normal operation conditions no manual intervention (on the site) is needed to restore full performance. Non destruction is normally tested with one parameter at a time exceeding the limits for normal operation. Non destruction refers to a period of not more than 96 consecutive hours, and a total of not more than 5.5 days in a 3 years period.

Non destruction - Power With requirements (D) of chapter 5.5 applied and the abnormal voltage range, performance of the fan shall result in no physical damage nor cause any internal RBS fuses to blow or circuit- breakers to trip requiring operators intervention . The fan shall automatically recover (temporary loss of function is allowed, provided the function is self-recoverable or can be restored by the operation of controls) to normal performance operation (E) after the test. Physical damage means that immediately after the tests a component part (including fuses) needs to be replaced to restore normal function to the fan.

Normal condition – Environmental

Environmental conditions where all units shall be able to function as specified.

Normal operation - PLD With requirements (E) of chapter 5.5 applied, performance of the fan shall result in no degradation of performance and no functional errors.

Supplier Includes the role of the designer, manufacturer, supplier
