Location Markers shall be kept in clockwise direction when viewing in the gas flow direction. In place of continuous tape other suitable Location marker system may be used in consultation with the company representative or Inspection Agency.20Image Quality Indicator to be usedAs Per DIN 54109 or ISO 102721IQI placement.IQI shall be placed on the film side / with the smaller wire of the penetrameter (IQI) turned towards the end of the film itself and the wires shall be placed across the weld and perpendicular to the weld length. IQI may be placed on a heat shield if the surface temp. is not suitable for its use.22Number of IQI per weld.At least Two IQI per film .23Weld thicknessWeld thickness is the thickness of nominal pipe wall plus estimated weld reinforcement not to exceed the allowable reinforcement. (Both root and cap)24Radiation angle with respect to film and weld90 Degree from the weld25Essential Wire diamenter of IQI to be seen FOR FILM SIDE IQIEssential wire diameter required for Placing Film side shall be determined as follows. 1. Take a segment of pipe welded together as required for welder procedure test etc. Take a radiograph of the weld using the same technique to be follwed as per this procedure. Place IQI both on film side and source side. Minimum 1 IQI shall be placed on source side and 1 IQI on film side e in such a way that the souce side IQI and the Film side IQI shall be available near to each other with out any merging or overlap of wires. The film side IQI shall bear a lead number 'F' near its identification number (ensure that this shall not obscure the area of interest). The source side IQI must show the minimum required wire. The Film side IQI may show more than the number of wire required for source side IQI. If shown, the wire diameter of clearly visible wire in all the three IQI's shall be used as acceptable required IQI for all production radiogrphs. The sensitivity shall be calculated as follows. Diameter of the clearly visible wire divided by thickness of weld multiplied by one hundred.26Back Scatter Radiation detectionA lead letter B shall be placed behind the film holder for initial 10 welds to check whether the back scatter is reaching the film or not. A lighter image of Letter 'B' on the radiographs clearly indicate the back scatter protection is needed and the radiographs shall be retaken with sufficient back scatter protection and further radiographs shall be taken with the same conditions. A darker image of Letter 'B' is not because of scatter and need not be rejected. The thickness and height of Lead letter 'B' shall be min 1.5mm and 12.5 mm respectively.Procedure No: IXAR/PLL/HPCL/RT 002.Page 3 of 427Back Scatter protectionLead sheets above 2mm thick will be used to protect the film from back scatter radiations.28Film/Weld Identification. As a minimum the film shall have Project Name in short, Contractor Name in short,RT agency logo Chainage, weld number and welder nos. In addition to the above the film shall show the date of Radiography and thickness of the weld. Any additional information if required shall also be included.Repair,Reshoot,Retake, Reweld shall be suffixed as R,RS,RT,RW after weld Number as radiographic images using Lead numbers. All identification information shall appear as radiographic images. If multiple films are used each film shall carry these identification informations. Corrections if any due to mistakes shall be done using indelible ink markers with prior permission and authorization from the concerned Inspection engineer in exceptional Cases.29Exposure.Exposure time is calculated from exposure Chart for Density 2 of the given equipment30Processing.Processing shall be manual.Films will be developed at 18 to 24 degree celsius and developing time shall be between 3 to 6 minutes. To avoid process marks the films shall be agitated in the developer tank continuously for first one minutes and then every 15 seconds till the developing time is over. Film shall be placed in the stop bath for about 20 sec with continuous agitation and fixed for about 5 minute then washed for 10 minutes and dried.31SensitivitySensitivity is acceptable for job thickness as per Fig 5 of EIL Spec : 6 - 77 - 0007 Rev 1 ( Copy enclosed )32DensityMin 2.0 to max 3.5 through out the weld . Density shall be checked using calibrated densitometer. The densitometer shall be checked using Calibrated densitistrip everyday before starting density measurements and the variations shall not be more than( -15 + 30 %) with in the usable range.33Interpretation and evaluation.Interpretation and evaluations shall be done by Experienced Level II RT personnel as per acceptance standard. The quality of film shall be with out artifacts such us Scratches, Screen marks, Processing marks and other marks in the area of interest and if present shall not confuse with discontinuity indications.Procedure No: IXAR/PLL/HPCL/RT 003.Page 4 of 434Acceptance standardAPI 1104 , EIL Spec 6 - 77 - 07 Rev 135Reporting.Reporting shall be made and submitted to the inspection engineer's review as per Enclosed format.36Storing of Radiographs.Radiographs shall be stored in such a place where the room temp shall not be more than 30 degree Celsius and shall be free from dust and moisture.37Safety.Personnel performing Radiography shall wear TLD/dosimeter and shall display the location of radiography area using warning symbol boards in English and Hindi / local languages and will stop the passage of personnel (Personnel not involved in RT) during the time of Exposure. The radiography station shall be properly sheided and the radiation outside the cordon limit shall not exceed 0.25 mR/hour or as per work load calculation. All local safely regulations shall also be properly adopted.Field safety radiation survey meter shall be available at the site of radiation.38Procedure Demonstration.Procedure Demonstration shall be done prior to start the production radiography to the best satisfaction of the Inspection Agency. The techniques should be qualified before starting each size dia /thickness prior to start of actual production39Technique sheet.A technique sheet shall be prepared as per the enclosed format, prior to commencement the radiography along with technique radiographs for approval from the inspection engineer.IXARPLLEIL
