Ledgewood Baptist Church Sunday School
―A PLACE FOR EVERYONE‖
Ledgewood Baptist Church Sunday School is committed to Biblical based teaching. In all our clas-
ses the Bible is the primary textbook. The Bible and its importance in our lives is the primary focus
of all our classes from the three year old to the senior citizen. We firmly believe that the Bible is
God’s Word. We believe the Bible speaks to us and offers us guidelines for living a life full of God’s
blessings.
The following is a listing of the classes and their individual focus for– the 2011 Sunday School year
PRIMARY DEPARTMENT
Preschool – Second Grade
Located on the second floor of the church
Primary Department Pianist – Mrs. Marilyn Patterson
Primary Department Music Leader – Mrs. Kathie Stark
Every Sunday in this department begins with an opening where all the children sing, pray, listen to
stories and share their thoughts and prayers. The children learn many memory verse songs during
this time. After opening each child goes to his/her age appropriate class. The individual classes in
this department are:
Beginners: Three year old - Prekindergarten
Mrs. Becky Rubenstein
During this class there is a short Bible story and simple hand work. The children have fun learning
about Jesus and other important people in the Bible.
Kindergarten – Second
Mrs. Katrinka Sullivan
One goal of this class is to help children understand that the things they learn from the Bible can
be used in their everyday lives. This is accomplished through Bible stories and fun activities. The
class focuses on knowing Jesus, the words of Jesus and that Jesus loves all of them.
JUNIOR DEPARTMENT
Third – Eighth Grade
These classes meet in the Fellowship Center, the large building with the gym in back of the Church. The in-
dividual classes in this department are:
Third – Fifth Grade – Mrs. Pam Freund
The focus of this class is to help students become familiar with the many wonderful promises of the
Bible, and learn how to better follow Jesus and make Him an integral part of their lives. Learning
how to use the Bible is an important goal of this class. How the Bible is organized and was written,
its key historical events and major personalities are discussed. An emphasis on memorizing scrip-
ture is also incorporated. Students in this class also present puppet skits centered on Biblical
teaching or Bible stories. (Upstairs Fellowship Center)

Sixth – Eighth Grade Middle School Class – Ms. Carol Kagdis
This class began exploring heaven and read 90 Minutes in Heaven, and is currently exploring ―other
worldly‖ things by working through 23 Minutes in Hell. The follow-up will be a study of the end
times using Understanding Biblical Prophecy For Yourself by Tom LaHaye. (Downstairs Fellowship
Center)
ADULT DEPARTMENT
HIGH SCHOOL – ADULT
Unless otherwise indicated, these classes meet in the Christian Education Building, which is the white house
to the left of the church. The individual classes in this department are:
Ninth–Twelfth Grade High School Class – Mrs. Celeste Holwick
This class focuses on the teachings of the Bible and how these directly relate to the challenges of
youth. This class strives to have students embrace Christian convictions and attitudes toward self
and others. (Upstairs Fellowship Center)
Young Adult: – Mr. Bob Stark
This class is designed to strengthen the faith and help those who attend grow in their relationship
with God by answering some of the questions Christians face today. Studies have included: an in-
depth look at some of the books of the Bible, discussion of current events and how these events im-
pact the world in which we live, and a study of the major religions of the world and the differences we
find in these when compared to the beliefs and truths we hold as Christians. The studies are de-
signed to help answer the questions, ―What do I really believe? How does what is going on in the
world affect me? What does God want me to do about it? (Downstairs Fellowship Center)
Adult: Women
This small group study is open to women of all ages seeking fellowship and discussion. The focus of
the class is to study Biblical material geared toward issues particular to women. Currently the group
is using the book, Having a Mary Spirit by Joanne Weaver. (This class meets in the upstairs sanctuary
Sunday School room.)
Adult: Coed – Mrs. Shirley Blewett
This class has a wide range span as it is open to any adult any age. This class is getting back to ba-
sics by searching for an understanding of the Bible. The discussions in this class are lively and in
depth with the Scripture always having the first and last words. (This class meets in Jackson Hall, the
room adjacent to the church kitchen.)
Adult: Coed – Rev. David Holwick
Usually this class studies through a book of the Bible, but on occasion will study a particular topic.
The format emphasizes discussion about the text and application to ones life. This class is designed
so that those who ―drop in‖ will not be at a disadvantage. (This class meets in the Sunday School room,
the large room right off the sanctuary)
Adult: Coed – Mrs. Trilby Salmon
This class is presently using the DVD study, "40 Days of Love" by Rick Warren. This study is teach-
ing what it means to be made in the image of God and what He desires in our relationship with Him
and with others. The class begins with a brief time of prayer, and when one study is completed, the
class decides on the next study. We are happy to have new people, so please come and learn with us
as we study God's word together. (This class meets downstairs in the Christian Education Building, the
white house to the left of the Church.)
