General RulesM

ER'S MEETIN

G

Games are a best of fifteen (15) series with a 30 minute time limit. If the time limit is reached, the team with the most games wins. In case

of a tie at the end of 30 minutes, one last game will be played to determine a winner.

After the first 8 games, there will be a two (2) minute half-time. Teams switch sides at this point.

Teams must start each game with no less than 3 and no more than 4 players. In co-rec, one female must begin each game to avoid a forfeit.

The Dodgeball CourtM

ER'S MEETIN

G

The field of play consists of the entire court; each wall is considered “inbounds.”

The center line will be the short line of the racquetball court, which is the one closest to the door. It will be marked with cones.

Balls are considered dead once they hit the ground, ceiling, or either back wall. Balls are still live if they hit either side wall.

Starting a GameM

ER'S MEETIN

G

At the beginning of the game, two balls are given to each team.

Players begin facing their respective back wall.

Extra players must remain outside the court and may only enter after a game has been completed.

When the referee blows the whistle, play begins. There is no 10 second mark, since there is no opening rush.

ER'S MEETIN

G

A player will be called OUT when:

They are contacted by a ball thrown by their opponent that has not contacted the ground, ceiling, or back wall AND that ball hits the one of these after.

This includes contacting a player first, in which case, both players are out.

A player on the opposing team catches a thrown ball in the air.

A player hits an opposing player in the head with a thrown ball.

A player ducks their head into a thrown ball.

A player will NOT be called OUT when:

The ball hits the ground or ceiling prior to contacting the player.

The ball hits a back wall before contacting the player. If a player catches a ball that hits the back wall first, the thrower

is NOT out.

The ball hits the player but is caught by a teammate prior to hitting the ground.

The throw is out

The player is hit in the head and did not move into the ball.

Catching the Ball:

When a player catches a thrown ball in the air, the thrower is out. If players on the catching team are out, one player may return to

player or “regenerate”.

When a player catches a ball that first bounced off a teammate and has not hit the ground, the thrower is out.

In this situation, an out player on the catching team does not regenerate, since the catcher has already “saved” their teammate.

Holding the BallM

ANAG

ER'S MEETIN

G

A player may hold the ball for 15 seconds, after which they must throw the ball. They are out for delay of game if they hold the ball longer than 15

seconds.

Players may use a ball to defend themselves by deflecting throws. If the ball is deflected off a held ball and caught, the thrower is out. If a player drops a ball as a result of contact with a thrown ball, that

player is out. If a thrown ball is deflected with a held ball into a player, that player

is out.

Once OUT, players must stand with their backs against their team’s right-side wall.

All active players must remain inbounds.

If players are out, they may retrieve balls for their teammates. Players who are out may not hold balls for their ‘in’ teammates. They may retrieve dead balls within their reach and roll or kick them

to their teammates. BUT, their backs must remain against the wall at all times.

They may never deflect a live ball.
