3 CONNECTING AND UPDATING THE OCTOPUS 900

The Octopus 900 has the default IP address 172.16.42.32. Commands are sent from the PC to the Octopus using the TCP protocol. The video stream from the Octopus is transmitted from the Octopus 900 to the PC using the UDP protocol.

To change the IP address you need to configure your computer to be in the same address range 172.16.nnn.mmm with the subnet mask 255.255.0.0. nnn and mmm can be any number between 1 and 254.

Attention: To separate the UDP video stream which takes a considerable amount of the network bandwidth from the rest of your network you have to use a network switch between the Octopus 900, the controlling PC and the Ethernet wallplug (the connection to the network).

If the Octopus 900 and the Control PC are directly connected to the network, the network may become slow or even hang.

3.1 Resetting the IP address

If the IP address of the Octopus 900 has accidentally been changed or is not known, it is not possible to establish connection to the instrument. In this case the instrument has to be reset to the original IP address 172.16.42.32. To do so keep the following 3 buttons pressed while turning on the instrument.

Figure 1: Reset combination for the IP address.

3.2 Setting the IP address and ports

Note: Every PC with EyeSuite Perimetry within the same network potentially is able to connect to the Octopus 900. To prevent unintended remote control and image data flow in the network, change the Octopus 900 IP address prior to the connection with any network.

To configure the Octopus 900 you might need to temporarily change the IP address of your PC to 172.16.nnn.mmm. The change of the IP address requires Administrator rights and can be done under "Start", "Control Panel", "Network Connections". Please contact the responsible person for your network to define the final static IP address of your Octopus 900.

Please refer to your computer's operating system manual for further details on setting the computers IP address.

To change the IP address of the Octopus 900

1. Make sure your computer's IP address is in the same range as the Octopus 900's IP address

2. Connect the Octopus 900 and your PC either directly via a crossed Ethernet cable or via a network Switch using straigt Ethernet cables.

3. Run EyeSuite Perimetry, go to "Perimetry", "Service / Diangostic", "Connection"

4. Click "Connect to OCTOPUS"

5. The connection is established if the information on serial number is shown and the status line shows the according statement.
