Breakfast series #3 Life sciences careers in the public sector
Q&A session on public sector careers, starring 2 VUB alumni with a Life sciences Phd and currently active in the public sector, and a representative from Poolstok (HR services provider for Flemish
public sector organisations). Together the 3 speakers will cover 3 policy levels: Flemish, Belgian and European.
• Dr. Elke Van Rossen had a taste of both the private and the academic sector before she started working for the Belgian federal government. She currently works as Accreditation manager Medical and Life science testing laboratories and will show you how a life sciences career can sometimes be found in an unusual place, like FPS Economy (Federal agency for Economy). • Dr. Afroditi Mertzanidou switched from being a specialist in chromosomal abnormalities in the human pre-implantation development to becoming a generalist at European policy level. Shewill give you an idea of what it is like to work for a vast organisation like the European Commission. • Lieze Stassen is Account consultant at Poolstok (HR services provider for Flemish public sector organisations) and will guide you through the specificities of applying for a public sector organisation.
