Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 2018 Fall Semester at the Community School of Music and Arts! We hope that you and your family will join us to kick off the school year.
We are excited for some new additions to our Fall programs!
Our Music School is offering new introductory classes—Intro to Songwriting and Intro to Indian Music, as well as two classes to introduce the Alexander Technique— a method of postural education.
Our Art School is offering three weekend workshops this semester: Block Printing on Fabric, Basket Making 1.0 and Adventures in Jewelry Making, as well as the popular Family Painting Workshop. Workshops are a great way to try out a new creative skill!
We are expanding our Little Artists and Little Musicians preschool classes to include more options and variety at each class level. Our new classes include Little Musicians 2: Keyboard Prep, Little Musicians 2: Creative Music Makers, Little Musicians 3: Masterpieces in Music, Little Artists 2: Stories and Adventures in Art, Little Artists 2: Animals and Nature, Little Artists 3: 3D Explorers and Little Artists 3: Young Masterpieces.
We are proud to have served the Silicon Valley community with music and art programs for the past 50 years. As we look to CSMA’s future, we are excited to expand our campus with the Rogers Wing (named in honor of longtime supporters Ruth and Roy Rogers)—a 3,350 square foot new addition to Finn Center. The Rogers Wing will allow us to greatly increase the number of students we are able to engage and inspire through arts education. We are extremely grateful for all of the support we have received so far, and hope that you will continue to support us in our campaign for the new building expansion.
On behalf of CSMA’s staff, faculty and Board of Directors, thank you for being a part of our community, for your continued support of our programs and for believing in the power of the arts!
Sincerely,
Vickie Scott Grove Executive Director

ART FACULTYLena Boot“My passion is working with preschool-age children, giving them opportunities to be creative in art. In the style of Reggio Emelia, I provide a creative art environment that gives children the opportunity to observe, inquire, explore and use fine motor and cognitive skills. Art provides them with an awareness of themselves and their surroundings.”
Atreyee Ghosh“My teaching philosophy is to think outside the box to inspire children of all ages to see and appreciate art in their everyday life. I believe that every single person is a born artist. With my hope of making art accessible to all, I bring my enthusiasm, a strong design background, and my love for fellow humans and the world around us to every class I teach.”
MUSIC FACULTYDaniel Garcia“I have worked many years as an early childhood educator and I weave music into my daily curriculum. My background allows me to bring a unique teaching style to my classes, incorporating singing with guitar, musical games, movement and exploration of rhythm instruments.”
Christina Christiansen“I received my musical education from the Ithaca College School of Music, and have experience as an early childhood music educator in the Bay Area. I have a strong background in voice and I love creating music and movement with preschool-age children. I believe that all young children are capable of making music and can benefit from musical exploration.”
Chaia May“I have been teaching music and movement classes for the last 25 years throughout the Bay Area. My background includes training as a teacher in Music Together, Baby Suzuki, Orff-Shulwerk, voice, dance and studies in early childhood development.”
Christina Stein“I have a background in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have taught music and movement to young children for several years and have a thorough knowledge of brass instruments and music theory. I enjoy exposing young children to the joys of music making!”
DANCE FACULTYYuliya Eydelnant“I studied music, dance and theater at Roehampton University, United Kingdom and graduated from San Jose State University with a BA in Musical Theater and Dance Education in 2013. I love working with preschoolers! I have experience choreographing dance routines and teaching fine and gross motor skills to dancers of all ages.”
Our Preschool Faculty - In Their Own Words
Viviana Leija-Sysak “My teaching philosophy is to let the students experiment and become connected with their first creative approach. I always encourage them to explore the materials used or change perspectives to have different results. I also remind them that every art work is unique, but the process of being involved is what makes students grow artistically and open their minds to creativity.”
Ximena Vilela“I love encouraging preschoolers to find their own creative individuality through hands-on and motor skills experiences. I graduated with an AA degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise and have been teaching art to preschoolers for several years. I am currently studying for my child development certificate.”
