Welcome back parents! The first graders are off to a wonderful start; we are already diving

into learning new reading skills. To best prepare your student, please review sight words and

letter sounds. Also check out symbaloo.com//mix/Aribo for links to all the websites we use in

class. In math we are continuing to conduct daily data investigations and strengthening our

counting to “120” skills. There should be daily review of writing numbers, counting 1-120, and

skip counting by 2,5,and 10. Youtube.com is a great place to find songs that will help your

student practice counting. In Science, we are learning about plants and animals. As the season

changes, encourage your students to observe the plants and trees. In Social Studies, we will

talk about family, culture, and traditions. This is a great opportunity to discuss your own

family traditions and background with your child.

Please help your student come to school every day ready to learn with completed homework,

the necessary supplies (sharpened pencils, crayons, etc.), and a backpack.

We look forward to working with you this year!

First Grade Team,

Ms. C. Aribo, Ms. R. Evans, and Mrs. L. Simmons

The Sensational Second Grade Team is WILD ABOUT LEARNING! We've gotten off to a

roaring start with excellence in achieving the Common Core on our minds! Ms. Wright is

excited to welcome Ms. Jefferson to the Second Grade team. She's an amazing addition, and

as a unit, we expect commitment, collaboration, and success as we forge into this new school

year. We've already begun exploring life cycles and the need for rules and laws. We are

learning to identify and utilize the four different types of sentences as we grow to become good

readers, writers, and overall thinkers. In math, we are studying place value with base ten

understanding. In second grade this year, we want your children to move away from counting,

counting, counting, to more mental math. With that in mind, please look and listen for

strategies, and practice the facts at home every night!

Second Grade Cont’d

The Thriving Third Graders have gotten off to a wonderful start this school year. We’ve

been preparing for a successful year by reinforcing classroom routines, procedures, and school

rules. The first few weeks have been a fun time of getting to know one another as well. The

teachers have used this time wisely to pre-assess our students. This helps us determine what

our class’ strengths are, as well as areas of need that we should devote more time and attention

towards. Now that we’ve gotten acquainted with one another and our school, we’re ready to roll

into our new instructional units.

In reading, we’ll be learning how to read fluently, read for comprehension, and how to

write in response to what we read. Our language arts instruction will focus heavily on crafting

and editing sentences for accuracy. The first math unit is rooted in place value and base ten

understanding with a focus on rounding numbers and adding and subtracting with regrouping

up to 1,000. Our first unit in Social Studies will be a “nice ride” as we learn about Paul Revere.

Last but not least, a student favorite – Science will begin with exposing students to living or-

ganisms and adaptations to their habitats. As you can see, we have a lot to dive into! Thank

you in advance for supporting your child with homework, as well as sending them to school

prepared every day!

The Third Grade Team,

Mrs. C. Mitchell and Ms. Ginn, and Ms. Tucker

Greetings from the Fourth Grade Team! We are pleased and excited to welcome two new

members to the team this year. Ms. Mallory and Mrs. Williams will be serving our fabulous

fourth graders along with Mr. Crabtree! Our team is looking forward to an awesome year!

Fourth graders have a lot they will need to know this year, so please be sure to check

your child’s homework folders and journals daily to keep up with daily assignments. We will be

giving homework in all subjects this year, so help your Fourth Grader complete their work each

evening. Students will be tested in all subjects each quarter, so please make sure they are

working hard and completing homework daily.

Fifth grade is off to a great start this year in teaching and learning! We can all look

forward to many exciting and rewarding experiences as the year progresses. We have very high

expectations for fifth grade students. We believe that the higher the expectations, the harder he

or she works. We know our students are capable of doing anything they put their minds to.

Therefore, we expect them to work, try hard, and do their best.

We would like to welcome Mr. Jamie Manning back to our fifth grade team. Mr.

Manning is very excited and comes to us with many great ideas. The fifth grade students are

rotating classes this year in order that they will be well prepared when the time comes for them

to enter middle school. Mrs. Edwards is teaching Science. Mr. Moore is teaching Math, and

Mr. Manning is teaching Social Studies. We are equally responsible for ELA/Reading

instruction.

We are asking for your help by having students on time for school so he/she does not miss

that important morning time to get organized and review skills each day. It is also very

important for your child to have essential supplies daily.

It is always in our children's best interest that we ALL do our best to keep on top of

things. We cannot expect our children to become responsible adults if we do not model and

encourage such behavior. Our task is HUGE! The fifth grade team is ready for the challenge

and hope that you are as well! Let's work together to make it a great year!

The Fifth Grade Team,

Mrs. K. Manuel-Edwards, Mr. J. Manning, Mr. C. Moore, Ms. E. Northern,

Ms. T. Welham, and Mr. J. Muhammad

Fourth Grade Cont’d

We want to encourage each child to participate in the 25 Books Challenge this year in

Fourth Grade. Please be sure to encourage your child to read, read, and read! We have started

our Accelerated Reader school-wide competition as well, so make sure your child is reading

daily! We are hoping to take the lead in the AR race this year! We encourage you to record

what your children read so they can take AR quizzes when they finish each book. We need

those points!

In addition, we want each student to be a super math star! We want our students to

know all their facts (without using fingers, of course) so please practice at home and review

those multiplication and division facts so they can be fast and accurate!

Thank you for your support and cooperation. We are looking forward to working with you

and your child this year!

Mr. P. Crabtree, and Ms. Mallory, and Mrs. R. Williams

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a wonderful year at Frank Lebby Stanton Elementary School! My name

is Mrs. Aiyana Cody and I have the pleasure of serving as your school nurse. My role as the

school nurse is to facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health

and safety; and to intervene with actual and potential health problems involving students.

The clinic is located in the main office suite and is available to students Monday through

Friday during the hours of 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. with the exception of Friday. On Friday, the

clinic opens at 9:00 a.m. During my absence, an F.L. Stanton faculty and/or staff member will

provide student assistance. Should you have questions and/or need to contact me, the number

for the school clinic is 404 802-7522. I look forward to supporting your child/children this
