All over the world transformers are increasing in age. It is no longer unusual for them to have an operating life of 50 years and more. Of course, this also means that on-load tap-changers must also work trouble-free throughout this long period and beyond. Our VACUTAP® VM® on-load tap-changer is the answer to this challenge. Our engineers have successfully combined the legendary reliability of the OILTAP® M supplied in more than 70,000 units with the advantages of vacuum switching technology.
Save on maintenance costs –and be on the safe side
This new development incorporates both our expertise in time- tested oil technology as well as more than 20 years of field ex- perience with vacuum switching technology. The result is a design comprising established components combined with innovative high-performance materials. Our efforts were focused on robust-ness - particularly in applications where there is an increase in stress such as in transformer overload operations. The target for our engineers: maximum reliability with minimum maintenance. Their impressive solution: 300,000 switching operations with absolutely no maintenance. The diverter switch insert even has a lifetime of 1.2 million switching operations.
All-rounder – in network operation and industry
The VACUTAP® VM® is a true all-rounder. Its main area of appli- cation is in 30-200 MVA transformers and at voltage levels of 110-230 kV typical in transmission networks. However, the VACUTAP® VM® also covers challenging electric arc furnace, HVDC, electrolysis, rectifier and phase-shifter applications. And the best part of all: anyone who has previously relied on oil tech-nology can upgrade to our proven vacuum technology simply by using the VACUTAP® VM®.
Plug & Play –simple switch from oil to vacuum
Switching to vacuum technology has never been easier: The VACUTAP® VM® can be retrofitted and is fully compatible with OILTAP® M models. This also basically applies for tap-changers based on former licenses as well as unauthorized OILTAP® M-like adaptations by competitors which do require reliable replace-ment.

Quality down to the last detail – longer tested lasts longer
Endurance pays off. This is why the VACUTAP® VM® has undergone longer and harsher tests than any other OLTC we have previously developed. More than 200 units were tested in advance of the series production in order to provide statistical confidence for fault-free production. During this process, our test engineers consciously exceeded the values that are specified in the IEC directives many times over. As a result, the VACUTAP® VM® had to meet 3 times the mechanical specifications. This meant 1.5 million switching operations instead of 500,000! Or during the service duty tests: 600,000 switching operations instead of 50,000. All of this served a single purpose: being able to give our custom ers the maximum assurance of trouble-free operation.
Transformer design made easy –Perfectly prepared with TAPMODELLER®
We are the only supplier of on-load tap-changers to offer transformer manufacturers an additional service free of charge: TAPMODELLER®. This product provides 3D models of our on-load tap-changers and off-circuit tap-changers and allows you to incorporate the CAD geometry into the 3D transformer model at the design stage. The benefits for you: more precise planning with savings in time and costs. Precise knowledge of the CAD geometry also makes it possible to optimize the transformer’s dimensions since voltage clearances can be estimated at the design stage.
With TAPMODELLER® we offer 3D scale models of the DEETAP® AR and DU product family and of the VACUTAP® VR®, VM®, VV® and VT®; OILTAP® V, M, MS and R on-load tap-changers. It goes without saying that the complete power train is also available in a three-dimensional model on request.
