SEMI-FINAL RULES
2
Introduction
The F1 Esports Series 2017 comprises three stages of competition:
(a) a qualifying round, which shall determine 40 drivers who shall qualify to compete in the Semi-
Final (as defined below) (each a ‘Driver’), as follows:
a. a qualification round consisting of a public online qualification round which shall
determine 30 Drivers to compete in the Semi-Final;
b. an invitation-only league championship qualifying which shall determine nine (9) Drivers
to compete in the Semi-Final; and
c. the selection of one (1) wildcard entry to compete as a Driver in the Semi-Final,
(together the ‘Qualifying Round’);
(b) a second stage consisting of the Drivers playing the official F1 2017 video game (‘Game’):
a. a briefing session (including any other activities required by F1 in relation to the Semi-
Final and F1 Esports Series 2017 more generally) at the Gfinity Arena, Fulham Broadway,
Fulham Road, London, SW6 1BW (‘Gfinity Arena’) from 4pm on 9 October 2017 (or such
other time as notified to all Drivers by F1) for all Drivers to attend, unless a Driver has
agreed alternative arrangements with F1 in writing (‘Briefing Session’);
b. a live semi-final event to take place at the Gfinity Arena on 10 October 2017 which shall
determine 20 qualifying drivers to compete at the Final (as defined below) (the ‘Semi-

11 October 2017 at the Gfinity Arena (‘Content Day’); and

shall receive the prizes as determined in accordance with the Competition and Prize Rules
(available here https://f1esports.com/terms-and-conditions) to take place on 24 and 25

These rules (the ‘Semi-Final Rules’) relate to the second stage of the F1 Esports Series 2017, being the
Semi-Final and the Content Day.
Advancing to the Final will depend on participating in and qualifying to proceed from the Semi-Final
and fully taking part in the Content Day. If a Driver qualifies for the Final in accordance with these
Semi-Final Rules, he or she must be available and able to physically attend the Final (and allow
sufficient time for travel to such events) and accept the rules relating to the Final (the ‘Final Rules’).
Formula One Digital Media Limited (‘F1’) is the operator of the F1 Esports Series 2017 and reserves

SEMI-FINAL RULES
1. PROMOTER AND INCORPORATION OF TERMS
1.1 The promoter and operator of the F1 Esports Series 2017 is Formula One Digital Media Limited (‘F1’).
1.2 By F1 permitting the Drivers who have progressed through the Qualifying Round to participate in the Semi-Final, each Driver accepts the following terms and conditions (the ‘Terms and Conditions’):
a) the Sporting and Qualifying rules (available here https://f1esports.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/F1Esports-rulebook-30.08.17.pdf) and the League Championship Qualifying Route Rules (available here [●]) (in each case, as applicable) (the ‘Qualifying Rules’), these Semi-Final Rules, the Final Rules (if applicable) and any additional rules and/or terms and conditions relating to the F1 Esports Series 2017 communicated to me by F1 from time to time (together the ‘Sporting Rules’);
b) the Competition and Prize Rules of the F1 Esports Series 2017 (available here https://f1esports.com/terms-and-conditions) (‘Competition and Prize Rules’);
c) any handbook(s) for Drivers or for parents and guardians relating to the F1 Esports Series, which can be found at https://f1esports.com/rules; and
d) the terms of use and the privacy policy of f1esports.com (the ‘Website’) as updated from time to time, which are available at https://f1esports.com/legal-notice. Please note that any other website used in relation to the F1 Esports Series 2017 will also have terms of use, which will apply to your use of such site and F1 is able to take no responsibility for such site(s), their terms or use or any related liability.
1.3 In respect of the Semi-Final, if there is any conflict between the Qualifying Rules, the Semi-Final Rules and the Final Rules, these Semi-Final Rules shall prevail.
2. EQUIPMENT AND SETTINGS
2.1 The Drivers will complete the qualifying session and all races in the Semi-Final on a PC racing
station with driver wheel and pedals. There shall be ten racing stations at the Gfinity Arena in
total. The Drivers will be allocated a racing station by F1 (in its sole discretion).
2.2 All racing stations will be the same in all material respects. Such allocation shall be determined
by F1 (in its sole discretion) and such determination shall be final. Drivers will not be permitted
to alter the set-up of the racing stations in any way other than making adjustments within the
pre-set parameters allowed by the racing stations (e.g. adjustment of seat distance to
pedals/wheel).
2.3 All racing (whether in a qualifying session or a heat in the Semi-Final) must be played on the
settings set out in Schedule 1. An F1 Esports Series official shall ensure the settings are applied
correctly before the start of each session. No variations to these settings are permitted under
any circumstances, unless F1 determines otherwise.
3. SEMI-FINAL
4
3.1 The proposed schedule for the Semi-Final is set out in Schedule 2. This is a guide only and is
subject to change or amendment by F1 (acting in its sole discretion). An up to date version of
the schedule (the ‘Semi-Final Timetable’) shall be communicated to all Drivers at the Driver
briefing that shall take place immediately before the first SF Qualifying Session.
3.2 It is each Driver’s responsibility to present himself/herself ready to compete in his or her
qualifying session and all relevant races. If F1 is unable to contact a Driver 30 minutes before
the start of any qualifying session or race as set out in the Semi-Final Timetable, the Driver will
be reported as a “no show” and the qualifying session or race (as the case may be) may
commence without the relevant Driver regardless of whether that Driver has arrived. Any delay
caused by a Driver that is not ready to compete at the scheduled time may result in a penalty
being awarded to such Driver.
3.3 The Semi-Final shall be structured as follows:
Qualifying
3.3.1 a qualifying session, where the Drivers shall complete qualifying laps (as further detailed
at clause 3.4 below) at the relevant time during the morning session (each a ‘SF
Qualifying Session’). The purpose of the SF Qualifying Sessions is to seed the Drivers
into four heats (‘Heats’).
Heats
3.3.2 following the SF Qualifying Session and subsequent allocation of the Drivers into the
Heats, the Drivers shall complete two separate races (as further detailed at paragraph
3.9 below) as follows:
(a) the Drivers shall complete the first race (in their respective Heat) at the relevant
time during the afternoon session (‘Heat Race 1’); and
(b) the Drivers shall complete the second race (again, in their respective Heat) at the
relevant time during the evening session (‘Heat Race 2’).
SF Qualifying Session
3.4 Each SF Qualifying Session shall involve Drivers completing laps over a set time period as
follows:
Car Track
Driver’s choice (in accordance with clause 3.7)
Autódromo José Carlos Pace (Brazil)
3.5 The Drivers shall be divided into four ‘qualifying groups’ of ten Drivers (‘Qualifying Group’). The
Qualifying Groups shall be determined by F1 (in its sole discretion) and such determination shall
be final. Drivers shall be able to complete as many (or as few laps) as they wish during the set
time period. A Driver may increase his or her chances of recording a faster time, the more laps
they complete.
5
3.6 Each Qualifying Group shall, in turn, complete a SF Qualifying Session. The objective of the SF
Qualifying Session is for the Drivers to set the fastest single lap time round the track (‘Qualifying
Time’).
3.7 All cars shall be set to equal performance for the purpose of the SF Qualifying Session. Drivers
shall be allocated the car they shall drive in the SF Qualifying Session by F1. F1’s determination
as to the car to be driven by each Driver shall be final.
3.8 Once each of the Qualifying Groups has completed the SF Qualifying Session, the Drivers shall
be seeded into four Heats of ten Drivers based on their Qualifying Time (as compared against
all the other Drivers; 1st being the fastest Driver overall, 2nd the second fastest Driver overall,
and so on). The Heats shall be made up of the Drivers as follows:
Heat 1 Heat 2 Heat 3 Heat 4
1st 2nd 3rd 4th
8th 7th 6th 5th
9th 10th 11th 12th

Heats
3.9 The Heats shall involve Drivers competing against each other in the following races:

3.10 The objective of Heat Race 1 and Heat Race 2 is for Drivers to finish each race as high up the
final driver standings as possible.
6
3.11 All cars shall be set to equal performance for the purpose of Heat Race 1 and Heat Race 2.
Drivers shall be able to choose the car they shall drive in the Heats (the same car will be used in
Heat Race 1 and Heat Race 2) as follows: the Driver with the fastest Qualifying Time in each
Heat has first pick amongst the other Drivers in that Heat, the Driver with the second fastest
Qualifying Time has second pick amongst the remaining Drivers in that Heat and so on until all
Drivers have chosen a different car.
3.12 Following determination of the composition of each Heat and the Drivers’ choice of cars, each
Heat shall, in turn, complete Heat Race 1. The Drivers’ starting position on the grid for Heat
Race 1 shall be decided by the SF Qualifying Session so that the Driver with the fastest Qualifying
Time in the respective Heat shall be given grid position 1, the Driver with the second fastest
Qualifying Time in the same respective Heat shall be given grid position 2 and so on.
3.13 The grid position for Heat Race 2 shall be decided by the outcome of Heat Race 1 so that the
Driver that finished in first place in the respective Heat Race 1 shall be given grid position 1, the
Driver that finished in second place in the same respective Heat Race 1 shall be given grid
position 2 and so on.
3.14 Following the conclusion of each Heat Race 1 and Heat Race 2, the Drivers shall be awarded
points depending upon a Driver’s finishing position in each respective race as follows:

4. QUALIFICATION
4.1 In F1’s sole determination, the Drivers with the best Total Scores from the Semi-Final shall
progress to the Final as follows:
(a) the Drivers with the top 5 highest Total Scores from Heat 1;
(b) the Drivers with the top 5 highest Total Scores from Heat 2;
(c) the Drivers with the top 5 highest Total Scores from Heat 3; and
(d) the Drivers with the top 5 highest Total Scores from Heat 4.
(together, the ‘Finalists’).
4.2 In the event that a Driver ties on points with another Driver following the determination of the
Driver’s Total Score, the Driver’s whose aggregate fastest laps across both Heat Race 1 and Heat
Race 2 (i.e. the fastest lap from Heat Race 1 plus the fastest lap from Heat Race 2) will be
considered higher-placed. If such aggregate times are the same then the Driver who recorded
the quickest Qualifying Time as between those Drivers will be considered higher-placed.
5. PROCEEDING IN THE F1 ESPORTS SERIES 2017
5.1 The Finalists will be announced to all Drivers at the end of the Semi-Final on 10 October 2017.

operational or similar reasons, F1 reserves the right to replace such Finalist with alternative
Drivers. Where reasonably practicable, F1 will replace the relevant Finalist with the next highest
scoring Driver from the relevant Heat through which the original Finalist qualified.
5.3 F1 will have no responsibility to any Finalist who fails to demonstrate that they are willing and
able to attend the Final.

8. ON TRACK RULES
Driver drops
12
8.1 If a Driver does not complete a race for any reason not permitted by F1 (acting reasonably) (for
example, the Driver’s rage), there will be no type of re-start of the session or race and such
attempt shall be disregarded for the purposes of the F1 Esports Series 2017 and the Driver may
be disqualified from the F1 Esports Series 2017.
8.2 Drivers may not end a race under any circumstances without prior approval from F1. Failure to
abide by this rule may result in a penalty.
8.3 If four (4) or more Drivers do not complete a race for whatever reason (for example, without
any limitation, power outage), the session or race (as the case may be) may be re-started.
Observers
8.4 Observers (for example spotters) are not allowed within the Game or at the Semi-Final (other
than F1 Esports Series official or a person engaged by F1 or a party on its behalf in the hosting,
management, production, recording and/or broadcasting of the Semi-Final or a relevant
Driver’s parent or guardian (but under no circumstance shall they be permitted to interfere with
any session whatsoever).
Track behaviour
8.5 As the F1 Esports Series 2017 is a serious racing championship, on track behaviour has to be in
line with sportsman-like behaviour and appropriate clean racing as set out below:
o Passing - The responsibility for the decision to pass another car, and to do it safely,
rests with the overtaking Driver. The overtaken Driver should be aware that he/she is
being passed and must not impede the pass by “Blocking” (as defined below). A Driver
who does not watch his/her mirrors or who appears to be blocking another car seeking
a pass may be penalised. The act of passing is initiated when the trailing car’s front
wing overlaps with the lead car’s rear wing. The act of passing is complete when the
trailing car’s rear wing is ahead of the lead car’s front wing.
o Avoidable Contact - Drivers who cause contact which could be avoided by taking due
care and attention during a race are likely to be penalised.
o Punting - The term “punting” is defined as nose to tail (or side-of-the-nose to side-of-
the-tail) contact, where the leading car is significantly knocked off of the racing line.
Once the trailing car has its front wheel next to the driver of the other vehicle, it is
considered that the trailing car has a right to be there, and that the leading Driver must
leave the trailing Driver enough “racing room.” In most cases, “racing room” is defined
as “at least three quarters of one car width.” If adequate racing room is left for the
trailing car, and there is incidental contact made between the cars, the contact will be
considered “side-to-side.”
o Rough Driving - Any Driver, deemed by a F1 Esports Series official displaying rough or
unsportsmanlike driving may be penalised. The F1 Esports Series official shall
determine the course of action. If a Driver is determined, by the F1 Esports Series
official to be at fault in a collision that sent the other car significantly off the track,
he/she may be servery penalised.
13
o Blocking - A Driver may choose to defend his/her racing line so long as it is not
considered “Blocking”. “Blocking” is defined as two consecutive line changes to “defend
his/her line,” and in doing so, impedes the vehicle that is trying to pass with each of the
two consecutive movements. If, in the case of side-to-side contact, one of the two cars
leaves the racing surface (involuntarily) then it may still be considered “a racing
incident.”
o Right to the Line - The Driver in front has the right to choose any line, so long as not to
be considered Blocking. The Driver attempting to make a pass shall have the right to
the line when their front wheel is next to the Driver of the other vehicle.
o Race Pace - It is prohibited for any Driver to come to a complete stop on or beside the
circuit without good reason or the intention of retiring and leaving the race. It is
prohibited for any Driver to wilfully drive their car at 60% or less of their usual race
pace, either on or off the track during racing conditions. This is commonly referred to as
“Sandbagging”.
o Driving the Wrong Way - Driving the wrong way during any race will result in
disqualification from the event. In extreme circumstances, permission to drive in the
wrong direction can be sought from F1 but must be undertaken in a safe and controlled
manner
o Two wheels – At least two wheels must remain in between the track boundaries at all
times. This does not apply to situations in which it happens occasionally but as soon as
this is a Driver’s racing line or a Driver gets an advantage with doing it, he/she can be
penalised.
Penalties
8.6 Time penalties will be given to Drivers who break race etiquette (penalties may be applied by
F1 in addition to any automatic penalty awarded from the Driver playing the Game). These time
penalties are set as 5 seconds by default but may vary based on the severity of the incident. As
per any clause in these Semi-Final Rules, the head F1 Esports Series official will have the final
call on the time penalty given to the offending Driver.
Live-marshalling
8.7 The Semi-Final shall be attended by F1 Esports Series officials (the race-marshals) who shall be
responsible for on the day adjudication (including administrating any penalty or other warning,
in accordance with these Semi-Final Rules).
Track order
8.8 The tracks raced and the order in which they are raced is as set out in these Semi-Final Rules,
unless otherwise determined and communicated to the Drivers by F1 in its sole discretion.
Inviting Additional Drivers
14
8.9 Inviting additional Drivers to the F1 Esports Series 2017 lobby is strictly prohibited.
9. DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE
Consequences
9.1 If any clause of these Semi-Final Rules are broken, a standard formal procedure will take place
as punishment. The procedure is as follows (penalties may be applied by F1 in addition to any
automatic penalty awarded from the Driver playing the Game).
Warnings (No penalty applied but discrepancy noted by F1 Esports Series officials)
a) If a Driver leaves the track but this is due to a Driver mistake and no advantage is gained
then a warning may be applied. Warnings will accumulate and a 5 second penalty may
be applied for every 10 warnings accumulated.
b) Warnings may also be applied if the Driver is deemed to have broken any rule
referenced in clause 8.5 of these Semi-Final Rules but these rule breaks were not
deemed to have been intentional and no advantage was gained or disadvantage was
caused to other Drivers.
Amber Strike (5 Second Time Penalty)
Drivers who break any rules referenced in clause 8.5 of these Semi-Final Rules and gain a
minor advantage or cause a minor disadvantage to another Driver may be given a 5 second
penalty per incident.
Red Strike (Additional 10 Second Time Penalty)
Drivers who break any rules referenced in clause 8.5 of these Semi-Final Rules and gain a major
advantage or cause a major disadvantage to another Driver may be given a 10 second penalty
per incident.
Black Strike (Disqualification)
a) Drivers who intentionally break any rules referenced in clause 8.5 of these Semi-Final
Rules and purposely cause themselves or any other Driver a disadvantage may be
disqualified for the race.
b) Drivers whose conduct is deemed unacceptable may be disqualified from the race.
For example, Warnings are given but not limited to; cutting corners and crashing into an
opponent. Strikes can be handed out without warning for purposely crashing into an
opponent or purposely breaking race etiquette.
For the avoidance of doubt, Warnings & Strikes can be given out both during and outside an
ongoing race, for example during the adjudication process.
