First, on behalf of all the Fashion4Walls suppliers, let me say a very big thank you to all our customers for your fantastic support. We really do value this, and we always enjoy your company at our regular F4W trade shows. We’re very pleased - and excited! - to announce that this year by popular demand, we are launching an additional spring F4W show in the North West, to be held in Bury three weeks before our busy spring show in Northern Ireland at the

Templepatrick Hotel, Belfast, on February 27. We very much hope that you will be able join us at the Village

Hotel, Bury, on February 7 and be our guests from 11am to 7.30pm. The hotel offers a wide range of facilities and is easy to get to just off the motorway. It has ample parking, and free tea and coffee refreshments and a buffet will be provided during the show.

We know our customers really appreciate the opportunity to see the very latest wallcoverings ranges from all nine F4W suppliers under one roof, so we’re getting together as early as possible in the year to show you our new collections. The date of the new show coincides with the last day of the Spring Fair at the NEC Birmingham, and many of our customers have told us they are planning to travel up from attending that event to join us in Bury.

And now I’d like to welcome all our customers to the very first issue of our brand-new newsletter, exclusively for F4W retailers. Brought to you by the nine F4W companies, it features updates on our latest collections, colour and design trends for 2013, and our ‘top picks’ for spring. We hope you enjoy reading it – and we look forward to seeing you at one of our TWO spring shows!

Colour and design trends for 2013A move to smaller scale, new geometrics, luxury textures, glitter, nostalgia, novelty and watercolours - F4W suppliers look ahead

What new trends will come through in 2013 for wallcoverings? We asked F4W suppliers to look ahead, and several designers and directors are forecasting that we will see a move to less flamboyant colours and smaller-scale patterns. Examples include modern takes on ‘70’s sorbet tones and watercolour florals. Also key are new geometrics plus more background-style designs, as home decorators increasingly look for wallcoverings for all four walls rather than just one feature wall. Luxury textures and embellishments such as glitter and pearl effects or iridescent colours are also coming through strongly, reflecting the trend for glamour. Vintage looks and nostalgia are big themes, especially for the very popular novelty designs. Anything quirky appeals to home decorators wanting an individual look - and on-trend too are patterns using typography and feel-good slogans.

The Serendipity collection from Galerie features realistic materialeffects such as bamboo.

Bookcase with plant is a newnovelty design from Muriva.

Debona’s new Cheryl Stripe set includes thisstylish duck egg colourway.

Maryanne Cartwright, design manager, Muriva

The two main trends for Muriva are:Novelty designs: There is an

ever-increasing demand for wallcoverings featuring a range of popular iconic retro images and pictorial trompe l’oeil of every- day objects, and at Muriva we are all really confident that these bold stylish designs will continue to sell well. They offer home decorators something truly unique, and have become a strong leading trend in interiors.

Florals: These designs continue to be popular, despite the many floral trails on the market. With this in mind, floral patterns are becoming more diverse, embodying both classic and contemporary styles. The latest interpretations reflect the nostalgic designs of yesteryear, brought bang up to date with new cutting-edge techniques in manufacturing. Our new Millie floral, for example, features stylised ornate retro images. There is also a trend for soft watercolour designs and bright, bold painterly summer bouquets.’

Top picks for springFashion4Walls suppliers select their winning designs for the new season

Belgravia Decor’s Serianobranded San Pietro.

Angelica blown vinyl from Belgravia Decor.

Simon Miller, director, Belgravia Decor‘My Top Pick for spring would be one of our newest collections under the ever-popular Seriano brand, such as San Pietro. The entire Italian in-register vinyl range is known for its stylish, durable products, and San Pietro will not disappoint. It has a good choice of striking and neutral colour options, and all the beautiful detail

and high quality you expect from a Seriano branded collection.

While it’s not easy to select a single potential winner from Belgravia Decor’s most recently launched blown vinyl products, I would choose Angelica. This collection has the clean stylish look and contemporary palette that is so popular with our customers, and the early interest being shown in it is very positive.’

Vicki Kitson, design manager, Rasch UK

The trends we have identified are: Glamour:

Based on early 20th century influences, with pearlescent, iridescent colours, this reflects the luxury of a bygone era. The glamorous damask, right, is from our new Trianon collection. Global Ornament: Ethnic influences, ornamental paisleys and gypsy florals. Eclectic Vintage: Mixing old with new - quirky, out of the ordinary designs with a whimsical feel.’

Marc Roylance, design director, Fine Decor

Everyone says they have had enough of florals, yet florals

still seem to be our best sellers. Novelty papers have been extremely popular, but will they remain niche and have a short shelf life? Gone are the flat CAD-looking designs: I think people want value for their money. This is not just in the design - for example, painterly or surface print effects have proved popular - but also in the type of substrate and special effect inks used. The devil is in the detail. Backgrounds are becoming more intricate and interesting, the design scale is getting smaller (especially for florals), and more interesting glitter effects and iridescent inks are being used. However, all these have to be price-conscious, as it seems to be the value end, rather than the designer end of the market that appears to be thriving.

Strong trends are coming through from the top end, and the main trends that the Fine Decor design team picked up on at the London design shows last September were: Geometrics,

Scandinavian, Nostalgia, and Naive Watercolour Florals.

Geometrics: What I find particularly interesting about this trend is that many of the new geometrics are smaller scale, almost acting like a ‘pimped up’ texture that could be used on all four walls. The geometrics tried in the past tended to be large-scale retro 70’s style patterns, and definite feature wall designs.

Scandinavian: Graphic and stylised leaves and florals, modern and interesting layouts, with a flat treatment. This trend is as much about the colour as the design, with modern takes on 70’s sorbet colours. Also on this theme are 70’s inspired patterns such as those by Orla Kiely, which seem to be everywhere just now.

Nostalgia: Using novelty iconography of vintage themes, such as pocket watches, keys, old road signs, fountain pens, bicycles, maps, etc.

Naive Watercolour Florals: This trend continues the painterly watercolour theme that has been popular for a couple of years. Now, however, the painting of the flowers seems to be purposely simplified for a naive look.’

Stuart Wilson, managing director, A. S. Creation UK

I believe that wallcoverings will continue to be the leading

design influence for the home furnishings market. I see two key - and different - trends continuing to dominate in 2013. First, interesting texture and products with embellishments, such as glitter, will lead in one sector as customers continue to

be more daring in their choice of finish on wallpaper.

At the other end of the market, as big feature wall design becomes smaller-scale and less flamboyant in colour, customers will start to use wallcoverings on more than one wall in a room. While this has already started on a limited level, at A. S. Creation we feel that it will be a significant trend by the end of 2013.’

Natasha Perry, design manager, Holden Decor, right

Floral designs will continue to be popular, but we are

seeing a move towards softer brushed, painterly or watercolour patterns. Sketchy feminine toiles are also apparent, and follow the Vintage Boutique/Chateau Chic trend that we have picked up on.

Shimmering luxury textures with glitter and pearl effects are coming through strongly, along with fretwork, tile work and geometric patterns. These are a great alternative to the ever-popular floral papers.

The Escapism trend, sometimes with global influences, is still evident in all aspects of home furnishings. The reason

for the popularity of this trend may be because it enables home decorators to create an individual look. Also on-trend for 2013 are feel-good patterns and slogans that catch your eye and make you smile.’

Mark Metcalfe, managing director, Rasch UK. ‘Napoli Italian-style heavyweight vinyl should be a winner for Rasch as it has been developed specifically to meet market demands. Secondly, our Portfolio collection fits in perfectly with the ‘Eclectic vintage’ trend, and I think will fulfill home decorators’ desire for whimsical, conversational designs. The Top Pick from this range in my opinion would be the Bikes design.’

David Smith, sales director, Colemans‘Safari is my Top Pick for spring 2013. From the same stable as our best-selling Natura collection, this range of heavyweight Italian

vinyls offers something new and exciting. As the name suggests, the designs draw their influences from safari adventures, and include animal skins, trees, leaves, stripes, textures,

rich colours and glitter enhancement. Safari carries the attractive Cristiana Masi ‘Made in Italy’ label, and I believe it has great potential for both roomlot and stock trading.’

Maryanne Cartwright, design manager, Muriva‘GT is from the next set of designs to follow on from our very popular novelty collections, Art Gallery and Bluff. It shows the iconic mini car in a striking chequerboard pattern of dark grey and white images contrasted with bright red. The colours are used in a similarly graphic way to those on our highly popular photographic mural designs featuring scenes of famous cities from around the world.’

Bold damasks and colourful stripes

Fresh flowers anda new wood panel

Bold damasks and colourful stripes are highlighted in the latest ranges to be launched by Debona at the spring Fashion4Walls shows. New Marrakech damask and coordinating smart stripe are inspired by the handicrafts in exotic hues on sale in the traditional souks of Morocco. Both designs come in a choice of four striking colourways: teal, red, lime and grey.

The colourful theme continues in the new Cheryl Stripe set, featuring stripes of different widths from broad to narrow in bold tonal combinations: cream with gold, grey and black; duck egg with off-white, grey and black; and red with cream, gold and black.

And there has been such a great response to the recent launch of the Medina collection that Debona is adding a further colourway for spring. White on a soft cream ground will join the current choice of white/silver, red/gold, beige/mica and black/silver. This luxury-look set of flock-effect damask wallpapers and companion stripes is priced to retail at under £10.00.

Fine Decor is all set to welcome an early spring with Daffodil, the new wallpaper range to be launched in January/February. Based on the success of its non-traditional floral ranges such as Sunflower, Daffodil is a simple clean design on a linen ground, in a mix of sophisticated neutral tones and commercial brights.

A new blown vinyl feature wall design, Pippa, patterned with finely detailed poppies and leaves, comes in a striking bright colour palette.

In contrast, Empire is a simple sophisticated design of a nostalgic urban street scene, composed as a horizontal stripe, in a compact range of natural tones.

And continuing on from the interiors trend for bricks, slates and other urban natural effects, Fine Decor’s new Wood Panel design is the latest addition to its Distinctive range of wallpapers. It is coloured in a series of neutral tones, each with a metallic lustre to give extra opulence.

New nostalgic looks andrealistic natural effects

Classic, textured and quirky styles

With an eclectic mix of styles, the latest collections from Galerie offer a wide choice of wallcoverings for all rooms. Memories 2 is a paste the wall collection of nostalgic designs creating the feel of yesteryear and reflecting the vintage trend for interiors. They include Victorian photographs, leather-bound books, newspaper cuttings, vintage cars and travel posters from a bygone era.

A pretty pattern of Victorian birdcages, pictured above, is featured in the new Kitchen Style 2 collection of pre-pasted vinyl wallcoverings. With cafe scenes, wine labels and the ever-popular plaids and mini prints, plus coordinating plains and borders, the book will appeal to a wide audience.

The Serendipity collection is a technically sophisticated range of contemporary wallcoverings presented in a very original format. It features a variety of highly realistic material effects such as stone, wood, pebbles, concrete, fur and leaves in a wide range of natural colourings.

And home decorators can take a walk on the wild side with Galerie’s new Natural Faux collection of wallcoverings inspired by elements of nature. It combines the very latest scanning techniques with precision printing to create stunningly realistic 3D, animal and reptile prints.

Leading off Holden’s launches are two beautiful ranges of Italian heavyweight vinyls. Concetta is a contemporary fretwork damask with metallic shadowing, and Florentina is a distinctive flowing acanthus with an embroidered fabric effect. Both come with texture companions in softer tones such as cream, gold, beige and silver grey, plus a rich purple/plum and gold to create a real statement.

Ridley and Langley are two textured vinyl sets with a fine linear background, in a palette including soft greys, plum and midnight blue. Ridley has a damask motif with glitter elements and a glitter coordinate, and Langley is classic damask with a soft mica weave effect, and a coordinating stripe and texture.

And keying in with the continuing Escapism trend, Holden Decor is launching six quirky feature wallpapers. They include Be Magnificent, a fashionable typography print created from feel-good slogans and phrases, with bronze gold and teal metallic text on a midnight blue ground. Trip is a British toile pattern with seaside, town and country scenes - and a quirky twist inspired by the public’s love of animals. City by Night and City flock are stylish cityscapes, and Calligraphy is a French vintage-style design with layers of soft tonal images and metallic script.
